How to choose the perfect sunglasses

With so many sunglass styles on offer it can be overwhelming trying to choose the perfect pair.

BY SAM & JORDI WOODS

Not only do you need to like the design and colour they also need to fit well for optimum sun protection.

One of the biggest challenges when selecting and trying frames on is the tinted lenses can often make seeing what they truly look like difficult. If you require prescription sunnies then the task is even harder as sunglasses are not scripted until you add that option.

When we are shopping for eyewear with clients we do take a lot of the challenges away however, we do still like them to see what they look like in their frames before making a final decision. Therefore, we often take a photo of them on our phone so they can see it with their prescription optical eyewear. Something we suggest everyone does if they need additional sight help!

Below are the four steps we take when styling and shopping for clients eyewear to ensure we find them the perfect pair! Step One: Determine your face shape Inverted Triangle: Your forehead is broader than your jawline and you have a more angled face. Oval: You have an elongated face with narrow jaw and forehead with wider cheekbones. Round: Your forehead, cheekbones and jaw are of similar width and you have a softer, rounded jaw. Square: You have a fairly equal width from jaw to forehead and a squared off jawline. Rectangle: Your jaw to forehead is balanced and you have an elongated face. FYI: Some people can cross between two face shapes, if you feel that this is you adapt the below styles accordingly. Step Two: Discover what colour is best! Sunnies can be a fun way to express your personality, style and add colour to your face and/or outfit. If you are only wanting to buy one pair of sunnies a year we suggest you invest in the perfect colour for your complexion and the best quality you can afford.

If you don’t know whether you suit warmer or cooler tones then we highly recommend having a professional Colour Analysis (something we specialise in). Knowing the hues that suit you best

will ensure your frames are flattering to your face and not a bad distraction to your features. Black is not always the most attractive choice of colour. In fact on some complexions it can be too harsh and ageing! TIP: When choosing frames opt for a colour that makes you smile and will coordinate with colours you like to wear! Step Three: Choose the right style for your face Once you have determined your face shape and decided on a colour the next step is to pick a style that will suit your face shape. Above are some style suggestions for each face shape:

Awaken your child to the thrill of sport

Step Four: The final touches + 3 sunglass tips for every face shape Once you have picked a pair that you love there is still three things you should consider before handing over your money… 1 Sunnies should always sit snug on the bridge of the nose. If they are too high or too tight they are not right! If the sunnies have moveable nose pads adjust them to your desired fit. 2 When you smile you do not want your sunnies hitting your cheeks and lifting off your nose! So, do the smile test and see what happens. 3 Sunglass lenses should be no wider than the cheekbone. You are able to have the frame wider than the cheekbone (for example a cat eye pair of sunnies) however, if the lens is wider than your cheekbone they are too big. On

the flip side you do not want the lens to be too small either, so always experiment with different styles to find that perfect balance.

Happy sun protection! Sam & Jordi xx
