Are you retired? Looking for fun, friendship and fellowship? Why not join a Probus Club?

What is Probus? Probus is a social club for retirees and those who are over 55 and no longer working full time.

Why should someone join a Probus Club? You have the opportunity to meet new friends and fellow retirees and join in a wide range of social activities, explore new places and spaces, discover new interests all without breaking your budget.

Interested? You can join Probus Club Halekulani which meets on the 1 st Thursday of each month (except January) at the Halekulani Bowling Club at Budgewoi.

The Fun Club

Our Club held its very successful AGM in March, with most of committee positions filled by very enthusiastic members. We have already hit the ground running with our usual picnics each month, a visit to Davistown RSL by train, ferry lunch & then back home. Peter Mace, a very enjoyable and interesting guest speaker, entertained us at our April meeting.

Our banner, as you see above, was donated by a friendly sign writer. We use our banner at our picnics, where we still play quoits, bocce & some of us feed the ducks. Not happy with that, however, he then went about making a smaller banner which we can use at our meetings and bus trips.

Our next outing was a visit to N.S.W., Parliament House for a tour of the Legislative Chamber, followed by “High Tea”, which was a great day and enjoyed by all who attended. Next on the Agenda was a Soup & Damper Picnic in June. With much more fun to follow.

Testimonials keep flowing in from our members, here are a few;

“Joining Probus has been a big beneficial change to our social lives.” Laurie. “Wyee Probus has given me a new lease on life.” Ron

“We now find that we live busy, fulfilling lives.” Meredith.

Physio Practice seeks help to bring Stroke Arm Rehab Technology to the Central Coast

Central Coast Neuro Rehab in Gosford recently held a fundraiser for Tyromotion’s therapy devices. These are fantastic ‘cutting edge’ machines which use virtual reality and gaming technology to retrain arm and hand function after stroke and other neurological conditions. Using these encourages people do hundreds of repetitions of particular movements, thus helping to retrain the brain to relearn the movements. The games are fun and engaging, such as using your arm to wipe a screen to reveal a beautiful garden or opening your fingers to lift a balloon over a hill, thus encouraging people to do the hundreds of movements needed. It was a ton of fun and we hope to have another event in the future! First we had a seminar about the machines, then people with stroke tested them out. The event was due to finish at 6.30 pm but people were still sitting at those machines until 7.45! We hope everyone who attended had a great time. If you would like to help bring one of these machines to the Central Coast so that people can use them to recover their arm and hand function, to make their everyday lives easier, contact Dr Paulette van Vliet on 0429 377 994 or at info@centralcoastneurorehab.com.au. We would love to hear from people and groups who may be interested in helping us fundraise through community events, or would like to donate, or would just like to know more!
