Old Notes of Republic India Featuring Animals


• Let’s explore some old notes of Republic India that featured animals on them. The first example is this 2 Rupees note issued in 1950 featuring a Bengal Tiger on the reverse side. • These old currency banknotes had the dimension 11.4 X 6.4 centimetres and featured the signature of Governor B. Rama Rau. It was printed using multiple colours such as Red, Brown, Violet and Green



• The second example - 5 Rupees notes of republic India issued in the year 1949, featuring three Indian black bucks or antelopes in central panel of the reverse side. • This republic India note had a dimension of 12.8 X 7.3 centimetres and bore the signature of Governor B. Rama Rau. It did not have any inset letter and the language panel featured text in 8 languages - Urdu, Hindi, Bangla, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Gujarati and Oriya.



• The third example - 100 rupees old currency banknotes issued in the year 1950 featuring a vignette depicting two tusked Elephants in the centre of the reverse side. • These old republic India notes had a dimension of 17.1 X 10.7 centimetres and bore the signature of Governor B. Rama Rau. They did not feature any inset number and were printed using multiple colours such as Indigo, Violet and Green.



• The next example is a green coloured 100 rupees Persian issue released in the year 1959, featuring two tusked elephants on the vignette of the reverse side. • These notes of republic India were issued for Bombay circle and bore the signature of Governor H V R Iyengar. The promise text on this note reads "I PROMISE TO PAY THE BEARER ON DEMAND THE SUM OF ONE HUNDRED RUPEES AT THE OFFICE OF ISSUE AT BOMBAY".



• The final example is a red coloured 100 Rupees republic India note issued in the year 1959 featuring two tusked elephants on the reverse side. • These notes of republic India were issued for Bombay circle and featured the prefix 'HA'. They were exclusively issued only once to the Haj pilgrims. The promise text on these republic India notes read "I PROMISE TO PAY THE BEARER ON DEMAND THE SUM OF ONE HUNDRED RUPEES AT THE OFFICE OF ISSUE AT BOMBAY".
