We encourage everyone to look at the Getting Started Presentation to understand clearly how to navigate and access classwork and other fun activities that are a part of our summer community experience. What are the GOAT (Greatest Of All Time) markers in your life? The year 2020 will certainly make the record books! This week in Summer Connections, we’re exploring greatness through the lens of history. To learn more click here.

Have you ever seen something and wondered to yourself, “how did they do that?” We’ll spend some time this week trying to build inquiry skills together. We also want to share with students this week some experiences that are truly “hands-on,” as we firmly believe that handson learning helps to develop critical thinkers.

Through hands-on activities, students will actively create. They will create something real that they can look at and think: I was able to achieve this because of what I have learned and because of the skills that I have practiced. Because of me, it is here. That realization is incredibly empowering, because it shows students that they can have an impact on the world around them. It shows them that they can use their education to achieve something. And it is a physical embodiment of what they’ve learned. These are the skills of BOLD learners, which we need in our rapidly changing world right now.

Offerings for This Week

We are excited about several offerings for this week: • Family Gardening • Stayed On Freedom: Exploring the American Civil Rights Movement • String Society Summer Splash MasterClass

We will continue with our fourth week of the Entrepreneur’s Academy! Whether you are new, or want to continue in the course, we will offer it until August 14.

This week marks the end of our Driver’s Ed Theory Class, a two week class in which the students learned about New Jersey driving laws and road safety. Because the state of New Jersey mandates in-person written testing for a driver’s permit, students are required to come to campus to sit for the exam. The exam is scheduled for Thursday from 10-11 AM in the Klein Center, Hajjar Auditorium. We will use safe distancing during students’ time with us on campus. Our Summer Connections Health Director, Holly Alasio will be on hand to lead us through safety protocols during the exam. More information will follow.
