Research and outreach for young audiences

Dear teachers and educators, the international festival Theater der Welt is a great professional challenge for all of us and at the same time it offers unique opportunities to be able to see the world in a completely new light. Companies from some 25 nations will bring productions to Düsseldorf. Nine works in the programme are aimed specifically at young audiences. Precisely calibrated to this wide range of stimuli, topics and aesthetic approaches, we can provide you with professional support in processing and communicating the themes raised in festival productions. Here we will use our familiar and popular activities: workshops, introductions and audience discussions. However, for the Theater der Welt festival we will also experiment with entirely new forms of education and outreach work. All of us try consistently to question received wisdom, routines and approaches without losing our self-confidence. In a world full of contradictions, theatre offers scope to reflection, to participate in unhurried, confidential encounters and the experience being part of a community. We prepare for visits to performances, discuss experiences after the show and provide support for educators, teachers and parents. Together with students of Aesthetic Education at the University of Cologne’s Institute of Art and Art Theory, we offer both preparatory and follow-up educational support. We look forward to your visit.

Workshops We can come to you in order to prepare in advance for a visit to the theatre or to process it afterwards. Our workshops focus on practical activities, discovery and experimentation – all directly related to the themes of the work.

Introductions set audiences up for their visit to the theatre. These will sharpen your eye for what makes a particular production special and warm you up for the performance.

Audience Discussions offer the chance to enter a dialogue with the artists, talking about what you’ve just seen in a relaxed atmosphere.
