Second Sundays

The concept of Second Sundays grew out of a retreat that took Dayspring's 25-member Covenant Council on a transformative journey to envision a renewed Sunday morning experience. Small groups, using data from our all-church survey, came up with a variety of ideas, contemplating a diverse array of Sunday services, each tailored to various spiritual needs and outlooks. We hope Second Sundays may eventually grow into an assortment of activities like yoga, fellowship groups, Bible study, contemplative prayer sessions, food, and maybe even "Messy Church" for families with young children. Beginning March 10, we host our inaugural Second Sunday with a number of unique opportunities. Start the morning with Body & Spirit with Connie Stultz, with our United Methodist Men’s group, or by walking our Labyrinth. Stay for FaithUnplugged with Pastor Michael or Love Lessons with Dr. Gary Lovejoy.

UNITED METHODIST MEN

8:15am ~ Palo Verde Room

Dayspring’s United Methodist Men are shifting to a new monthly schedule to better serve the congregation. Beginning in March, meetings will be held the second Sunday of the month at 8:15am in the Palo Verde Room. This will be a social hour open to all with coffee and donuts, musicby the Dayspring Pickers and special musical guests, and a program on a topic of interest.

BODY & SPIRIT YOGA

8:45am ~ Room 112

Magic happens when we align gentle movement with long, deep breathing. Our mind, body, and soul unite. This is the true meaning of yoga. Come and connect to the Light Within You in this short moving meditation. The class is led by Connie Stultz, a certified yoga instructor since 2013.

DROP-IN LABYRINTH WALK

Starting at 9:00am ~ Labyrinth

Facilitators will be on hand from 9:00-9:50am to answer questions and orient those new to the labyrinth. Those who wish may walk the labyrinth in the courtyard or sit indoors with a handheld labyrinth. Our labyrinth can be found in the northeast corner of the courtyard.

Please join us for a different program each month on Second Sundays. This month, we will host a Drop-In Walk before the service for folks to walk, try our handheld labyrinths, or just ask questions.

FAITH UNPLUGGED

11:30 ~ Fellowship Hall

The wait is finally over! We are excited to announce Faith Unplugged — a service where conversation brings people together through faith, inclusivity, experience, and culture. Join us as we unplug what it means to “love.” We will start with the theme “What is Love,” based on bell hooks's book All About Love: New Visions, the first in her Love Song to the Nation series. Please join us for this unplugged look at Love.

LOVE LESSONS

11:30 ~ Palo Verde Room

We will offer a special activity on the second Sunday of the month starting in March, called “Love Lessons.” This program will address major issues of couples, married or partnered. A topic will be presented for five to ten minutes, and then a discussion will follow among the group members. Though the topics will be led by a professional psychologist and informed by education, training, and experience, it is not therapy. Rather, it will be a learning experience to bring awareness to the issues and skills in primary relationships. As a community that values love, we will be looking at the unique issues for loving couples.

The focus will be on various aspects of communication and conflict management. Some of the first topics include:

1) The Five Languages of Love - Expressing and Receiving

2) Evaluating the Health of the Relationship

3) The Content of Most Conflicts

4) The Crucible: Dynamic Balance Between the Positive and the Negative

5) The Process of Conflict: Patterns and Differences in How We Fight

6) Skills That Matter for Couples: Learning and Growing

7) Unequally Yoked: Differences in Faith and Belief Perspectives

8) Couples Across the Lifespan

Our facilitator, Gary Lovejoy, received a Ph.D. from Arizona State University and has over 43 years experience as a Licensed Psychologist. Whether or not you are in a primary relationship, please join us. Your unique experiences and perspectives are welcome.
