Curb Concerto Competition for Music Students

Jump to it at New Indoor Trampoline Park

here’s a new place in Sumner County where kids of all ages can burn off energy by jumping, bouncing and swinging. Jumpstreet Indoor Trampoline Park at RiverGate Mall (1000 RiverGate Pkwy., Goodlettsville) boasts more than 20,000 square feet of wall-to-wall trampolines that include a trampoline dodge ball area as well as other activities like rope swings where kids land in pits of giant foam blocks. The special Earthquake Area at Jumpstreet is designed for young children and includes inflatables. Ages 3 and younger are only allowed here as well as ages 4 - 7 who aren’t accompanied by a parent or older sibling (ages 12 or older). Other attractions include walking sticks, trampoline basketball and a mechanical bull. Jumpstreet also offers birthday party packages. Operating hours are Mon - Sat 10 a.m. - 9 p.m., Sun 12 - 6 p.m. Admission is $4 ages 3 and younger (no re-entry); $8 all day ages 4 - 7 ($6 per hour Fri - Sun); prices vary for ages 8 and older depending on the day/time. Classically trained instrumental students ages 14 - 18 can participate in the Nashville Symphony’s Curb Concerto Competition, one of the most prestigious student competitions in Tennessee. The event showcases gifted music students from Middle Tennessee and distributes $4,000 in scholarship money. “Each year, this competition brings out the best and brightest music students from throughout Tennessee and gives them the incredible opportunity to perform in one of the finest music halls in the world,” says Walter Bitner, Nashville Symphony director of education and community engagement. “The Nashville Symphony relishes its role as a leader in music education, and we take great pride in this program, which is helping develop the next generation of great musicians,” Bitner adds. Competition categories include woodwind, brass, string, piano and percussion. The grand prize winner will receive a $2,500 scholarship, a pair of tickets to the symphony’s Aegis Sciences Classical Series and will be considered for a performance as a featured soloist at the symphony’s Side-by-Side concert in May. The competition takes place March 14 - 15, and applications are due by Friday, Feb. 27. To apply, visit nashvillesymphony.org.
