INDIAN TACO DINNER FUNDRAISER FOR 5-YEAR OLD SCARLETT AFFECTED BY AFM. The dinner will be held at the First Lutheran School Cafeteria, Friday March 8th, 5 p.m. until food runs out, $ donation for dinner, eat here or take it to go! Scarlett is five years old and a few months ago she was affected by AFM. She was a perfectly healthy little girl that suddenly lost the use of her left arm and was severely weakened in her left leg. Scarlett is going to have surgery on March 18th to transfer one of her own nerves to replace the damaged nerves in her shoulder. They have to travel to the Shriner's Hospital for Children in Philadelphia where -1-

they specialize in spinal cord conditions and injuries. All proceeds from this dinner will help provide travel, hotels, and meals for the trip. We're praying that after this surgery she will regain the use of muscles in her left shoulder and be able to lift her arm again. If you cannot attend but are interested in contributing please contact Deena Lorett 580-761-1859 or Karl Lorett 580-761-1855 RE-ENROLLMENT REMINDER: ARE YOU COMING BACK IN AUGUST?! WE NEED TO KNOW! Enrollment is now open to the public for next school year! Attached to a prior Chatter were your enrollment papers for the 2019/2020 school year. To hold your students’ spot for next school year, be sure to return your re-enrollment forms and 1/3 enrollment fee (if applicable). If you know a family new to First Lutheran School that is interested in enrolling, have them call the school office. If you refer a family with a student in 1st – 5th grades, make sure that they list you as a referring family on their enrollment sheet! If they remain enrolled through the first semester, in January of 2020 you will receive a $200 credit towards your tuition account! One family earned a $200 credit last month by referring friends!

TRACK SHIRTS - Don't forget to turn in your track shirt order forms! Shirts are $12 each. Orders are due no later than March 22nd! Turn in to your teacher or to the school office. Thank you!

FLATWARE: The cafeteria is in need of flatware. If you have any odd pieces of forks or spoons laying around, please consider donating them to the school. Donations can be left in the school office. FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Memory for Friday is the 2nd Commandment - You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God. We are down to less than 2 weeks from the end of the 3 rd quarter. Time is going fast! Please keep working on reading with your child! Stay warm and stay healthy! SECOND GRADE – Mrs. Powell: Happy March! I'm thankful for a warm house on these very cold days! Several bugs have been making their way around second grade. I pray that everyone mends quickly and we're all able to finish this quarter together! Spring Break is 10 days away and we can hardly wait. Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, a time for us to remember and ponder on the sacrifice Christ made for us. Continue to be prayerful in this time of reflection. Happy March birthday to Braxton and Allyson. God's Blessings, dear Friends! Next week is National Lutheran Schools week. I know we'll enjoy celebrating NLS! Blessings! THIRD GRADE – Mrs. Steichen: Two weeks! We have two weeks till Spring Break and the end of this quarter. Please keep checking on FastDirect for your child's grades. Also, ask them about their A.R. goals. This week: Memory, and Spelling Test on Friday. We will also finish up our Black History research project in class. Math: Test next week. Science - Sound test next week. FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: Keep studying for Midwest State & Capital test Friday the 8th. Continue to read for AR & Book IT! Many have made goals and continue to go past 100 %. Amazing! AR goals & 3rd QTR end March 15th. There is still time to tie up any lose ends if needed. We can do it! Next week is Lutheran School Week. Look in the Chatter for more information. Blessings as you bless others this week! FIFTH GRADE – Mrs. Schatte: Greetings! We have a busy week this week. While there are several tests on Friday, I have given the children ample time to study for them, with excellent review guides. Please see my Fast Direct Bulletin Board for a summary of the week. "FLY" NIGHT TONIGHT! in the gym! Students 6th grade and up: During the Lent season we will have extended hours! We will meet from 5-7:30! Join us for food, fun, and fellowship! SUNDAY NIGHT YOUTH: Narnia Night! Come join us March 24 from 4-7 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall for a few magical hours of food, fun and fellowship through the Wardrobe doors! All Sons of Adam and Daughters of Eve ages 6th grade through high school are cordially invited to attend. This event is "costumes encouraged" and since the citizens of Narnia are a wide and varied lot, the possibilities are endless: any animal (as Narnia is filled with good Talking Beasts), magical creatures such as unicorns, tree and water spirits, dwarfs, fawns (fully clothed), marshwiggles (see book four, The Silver Chair), kings, queens, knights...you get the idea. Since our night in Narnia is during the Golden Age of the reign of -3-

the Kings Peter and Edmond and Queens Susan and Lucy (and we are in a church hall) there would be, of course, no evil creatures present (witches, werewolves and the like), so please keep this in mind when creating a costume. If anyone needs help with or supplies for making a costume, please let Susie or Becky know and we will certainly be glad to help! Also, because visitors from our world are pulled into Narnia very suddenly, you may also come as you are without a costume. Dinner for the evening will be pot-roast served family-style. It is very important to RSVP for this event because of the cost and cooking time for the meal. Please call or text either Susie 251-752-2453 or Becky 314-740-4853 by Friday, March 22 if you are coming. Please do not arrive before 4:00, as the Wardrobe will only open at that time. CALLING ALL PARENTS AND SUPPORTERS OF OUR YOUTH: we are in need of two to three adult chaperones to make Narnia Night a success! All you have to do is show up (costume optional :), no planning or clean-up required. Please let Becky or Susie know if you can help. We are also in need of one of those holiday light projectors that has the setting for star light or snow. We would just be borrowing it for the evening and it would be used indoors. Again, please let Becky or Susie know if you have one we could borrow.

If your middle schooler wants to participate, please contact Coach Amanda at 580-716-8409 or send her an email via FastDirect. Mrs. Harbeson: Hello, Everyone! How's your week treating you? Good, I hope. We sure do have a lot going on these last two weeks of the 3rd quarter! This Friday, many of our middle school students are traveling to Broken Arrow to compete in the Academic Bowl. Good luck to all, and thank you, Mrs. Goll and Ms. Pacey, for heading up this fun event. Next week we are celebrating National Lutheran Schools Week. Mrs. Hanson and Ms. Pacey have many exciting activities for us to participate in! After-school study hall will be in my room for the month of March from 3:30-4:30. I encourage anyone who needs extra help...especially those who have been absent...to attend and get some one-on-one instruction. You don't have to stay the entire time. Just stay as long as you need to. In language, all classes have taken their final grammar tests and are working on book reports. All book reports for all grades are due Monday, March 11. We will also be taking one more spelling and vocabulary test in Wordly Wise next Wednesday. I encourage you all to study and do your best! Spring Break is near, and you can take a much deserved rest...THEN! We will be grading folders next Thursday, so if you and your family are leaving a little early for Spring Break, be sure to turn in your folder before you go. It's worth a test grade! That's all for now. Blessings on your week! Mrs. Hanson: All classes are using textbooks and lectures this week to solidify current concepts. Each class will have a concept quiz this Thursday over information covered so far. Good luck to all those going to the Academic Bowl! Make us proud, represent FLS, give God the Glory, and bring home those trophies! To those of us staying here, we will have an "Enrichment Day" full of life skill and fun activities. iFLY permission slips, waivers, and money were due today, Wednesday 3/6, so if you did not turn those in yet, please do so tomorrow. I totally understand a hesitance toward flying, but parents, if you can convince your children that this is an awesome opportunity and that they will be safe, it would be ideal if EVERYONE participated in all activities during this trip. Next week is National Lutheran Schools Week! We have some awesome activities planned for each day of the week! A schedule can be found attached to the Chatter, but we are in need of portable fire pits that will be used next Friday for one day only. If you or someone you know has one we can borrow, please let me or the office know as soon as -4-

you can! Every student in the school also needs a plain white tshirt (it can have text on it, but shirt color must be white) by this Friday. Ms. Pacey: Today is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent. Next week is National Lutheran Schools Week. We will be enjoying lots of fun activities with our chapel families next week. We will be finishing chapter 5 in Pre-Algebra and working on our car buying project. Course 2 is working with rational numbers. Algebra is modeling real world data using linear equations and determining if data can be modeled better with other types of functions. Course 1 is working on fraction operations. We are in the final stretch to Spring Break and the end of the 3rd quarter. Let’s finish this quarter strong! Mr. Covert: We made it to March! I hope everyone is staying healthy as we enter the stretch run of the third quarter! Classes are moving right along nicely. 8th grade is working through the changes our country went through in the Progressive Era, the changes to culture especially. In 7th grade, we’ve moved onto the Andes Mountain and Midlatitude regions of South America. As for 6th grade, we’re working our way through Medieval Europe, and the changes are setting the stage for the Renaissance and Reformation in upcoming chapters. Congratulations are in order for Kyle King, our school National Geographic Bee champion, for qualifying for the state competition! Only the top 100 across the entire state make it to that level, so making that far is an achievement in and of itself. Be sure to cheer on Kyle as he heads down to Norman to compete on March 29th! I pray that God continues to bless our school family as we start to wrap up quarter number three. Blessings on your week!
