When the lights go out, the fun goes on! Black lights and sick beats make for sights and sounds unlike you usually see at Ten, but you will love the change. Wear neon and other reactive clothing and accessories, and get ready for specials from the bar to enhance the theme as well.

David Atlanta’s own DJ Marc J. Cubs returns to the scene of his last slaying. Find his unique blend of woof-worthy hotness and rave-worthy beats at your disposal for a night of dancing. All options are yours except stopping. Don’t even think about it all night long.

Even when you don’t know it, lawyers with LGBT issues on the brain are fighting for your rights. Much of the time, it’s the Southeast branch of Lambda Legal in the courts, at the statehouses, and in the face of policy makers working it for the cause. Meet them and give back.

well, why would you change it up? Like my signature move in the sack – 80% of the time, it works every time. I just wish that in the case of Blonde, was worth a four-year wait. The album has a lot of dialogue. Like, a lot. From voicemail messages from his mother to random thoughts about Facebook friend requests, it becomes quite annoying quite quickly. I’m not a fan of playing a track that, instead of a song, all I hear is talking. If I wanted to do that, I’d go sit in a bar somewhere – or actually interact with people (Gross!).

Frank Ocean’s Blonde is Bland by DJ Marc J Cubs

SOPHOMORE SLUMPS ARE NOTORIOUSLY DIFFICULT TO OVERCOME, AND WHILE BLONDE IS NOT EXACTLY BAD, AT ALL, THE MAGIC OF CHANNEL ORANGE IS GONE. I LIKE TO THINK THAT I’m not a music snob. I can appreciate most any music where artists put time and effort into creating something that they truly cherish and are proud of. It must be extremely hard to put their lives and feelings out there for the world to listen to, and ultimately, critique. That said, I do have higher expectations when it comes to artists that I really do respect and admire. Frank Ocean is one of them. If you don’t know who Frank Ocean is let me give you the quick low down on the R&B artist. After ghost writing for a few years, he released mixtapes and eventually his debut album Channel ORANGE back in 2012. He was nominated for two Grammys the next year: Album of the Year and Best Urban Contemporary Album (the latter of which he won). He worked with Jay-Z, Kanye, Pharell, Beyonce and many more A-List artists. Oh! And he said that his first love was with another man. So yeah, there’s that. But, being 18 | 9.14.16

The main theme throughout Blonde is loss of adolescence and the struggle with his new fame, his coming up, and all the struggles and perks that comes with being Frank Ocean. It just kind of gets old after the first five songs. On top of that, there isn’t really a song that stands out on the album. Sure tracks like “Nikes” and “Pink + White” are great, but they aren’t ones people will talk about and play on repeat. At least with Channel ORANGE, there were a few tracks that I actually blasted in my car. Blonde will most likely be played when I want to have an ugly cry alone eating carbs and ice cream. IT MUST HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY hard to live up to Channel ORANGE. I will say that Ocean does a good job not completely suffering from the “sophomore slump.” He does have a gift of conveying raw emotion while demonstrating incredible lyricism.

FALL by Mike Fleming

A LINGERING LOOK AT 2016’S SEXIEST FALL TV GUYS THAT WE’D WATCH NO MATTER WHAT SHOW THEY’RE ON. Last week’s David Atlanta already hit your fall TV preview based on content. Now let’s set aside the plots and content for a second. Well, at least long enough to see which shows and their stars will appeal to our baser instincts. Never count out lust as a reason to tune in and glance up periodically on a night when nothing else is going on in the living room. Meet our favorite men of fall TV.

Jensen Ackles (left) and Jared Padalecki Supernatural, CW The Winchester Brothers are back and as sexy as ever. When they’re not saving the world from an apocalypse, Ackles and Padalecki are stealing our hearts and (dirty) minds. 24 | 9.14.16

Jussie Smollett Empire, Fox The best eye and ear candy on a show full of things to see and hear, we can’t wait to see what this gay actor and his gay character Jamal do next.

GUYS Brett Dier and Justin Baldoni Jane the Virgin, CW Dier’s Michael could be dead, and that cliffhanger is life and death to show fans. No matter his fate, Baldoni’s hotelier Rafael is here to stay in what he calls a “crazy” season.

Matt Lanter Timeless, NBC History hopping heroes always need their own stud. Enter this cutie and prepare for trips to iconic eras in history each episode.

Tom Ellis and DB Woodside Lucifer, Fox The devil made us do it, and Ellis can charm us with his super powers any time, and we’d gladly do it again. Woodside as his archangel brother also returns in this fluffy Fox romp.

Milo Ventimiglia (right) and Justin Hartley This is Us, NBC They had us at drama. And Mandy Moore. But they had our hands on the remote to set the recording with promises of this Heroes alum and his hunky new costar from Young & the Restless. davidatlanta.com | 25

Jesse Williams Grey’s Anatomy, ABC The show has been played out a dozen times in a dozen seasons, but S13 gets us back with one look and smile from this gorgeous man.

Daniel Sunjata Notorious, ABC Every show he’s on is better for his hotness. Always making his mark shows no signs of stopping in this turn as a sexy lawyer with connections.

Taylor Lautner and John Stamos Scream Queens, Fox Just like Nick Jonas on this show last year, we hope you can get drunk doing shots each time these doctors in a dysfunctional hospital flex their biceps. 26 | 9.14.16

Donald Glover Atlanta, FX Yaasss! Hometown love aside, we are all about this bright star and his series that we hope takes cable and America by storm.

Thrifting for a cause by Mike Fleming

OUT OF THE CLOSET OPENS THIS WEEK TO ADD A MIDTOWN SHOPPING OPTION THAT HELPS PEOPLE WITH HIV

G

ay Atlanta is no stranger to activities that directly benefit services and causes near and dear to our hearts. From homeless youth to HIV housing to pet support, we are all about a fun pastime that raises money for members of our community who need our help. Another player, Out of the Closet thrift store, enters the picture this week for your shopping and do-gooding pleasure. You’ve seen the bright pink façade teasing its opening for weeks now, and the time has finally come to see what it’s all about. What it’s about goes deeper than a great place to donate your gently used items or find great deals on secondhand stuff. The store – which will also include a pharmacy and free HIV testing – is run by Los Angeles-based AIDS Healthcare Foundation. “The money goes to support the notfor-profit activities of AHF, including care and treatment for those otherwise unable to pay for services,” says AHF Southern Region Bureau Chief Michael Kahane. 28 | 9.14.16

macho archetypes we love

SORRY IF IT’S WRONG. WE LIKE SOME BUTCH BOYS PLAYING TO STEREOTYPES, ESPECIALLY IF THEY INSPIRE ATLANTA PARTIES LIKE MANSHAFT AND GRR & STUFF. by Mike Fleming

T

he Village People kinda had it right. In their own funny, danceable, tongue-in-cheek way, the ‘70s boy band knew that gay men have a thing for masculine ideals that goes way beyond reality, and they worked it for everything it was wroth. And as far as fantasy goes, we are so down with it. Don’t get us wrong. Stereotypes are bad as soon as they leave the realm of play. Dudes who take it too seriously and shame others with their misplaced priorities and internalized homophobia can poof disappear for all we care. But that’s not where our head is out today. Go attend a panel, lecture or Rush Center meeting if it’s where you are right now. Maybe we’ll see you there later. No, right now we are all about manly men doing manly things to other manly men. Gritty things. Masculine things. Dirty things. Grime. Tools. Uniforms. Leather. Hairy chests. Sweat. Bulges. Why are you blushing? Atlanta sees these archetypes play out on its dance floors regularly, aforementioned simpletons aside. With parties including DJ Diablo Rojo’s quarterly ManShaft and its themed events, as well as the new Grr & Stuff parties with David’s own Marc J. Cubs, there’s plenty of evidence we like to celebrate the unattainable ideals and dance while doing it, like…. well, like the Village People, damn it. Here are our favorite male archetypes as we set up for ManShaft: Blue Collar on Friday at Heretic, and for Grr & Stuff bear party on Saturday at Eagle. CIVIL SERVICE From delivering that package to guys carrying night sticks, we as gay men have a longstanding love of a man in a uniform. FIREMAN They don’t sell out of these calendars for no reason. The best ones really know how to work a hose.

MOTORCYCLE LEATHER Not just for Saturday nights at the Eagle, the right man in the right leather could get it any time. Sir yes sir.

LUMBERJACK Call us crazy, but even hundreds of miles from Bunyan country, something about splitting wood gives us wood.

JOCK It doesn’t totally matter which sport made him this fit, just that it did. And that he likes grabbing, roughhousing and comparing prowess with other guys.

BLUE COLLAR Working with his hands never looked so sexy. Construction workers, plumbers, delivery guys. If he works it while working, we are all over it – or wish we were.

MILITARY All cramped together sweating for months on end while showing bravery and mettle? That’s just hot.

Work your manly moves this weekend at ManShaft: Blue Collar Edition at Heretic on Friday, hereticatlanta.com, and on Saturday during Grr & Stuff at Eagle, atlantaeagle.com. 42 | 9.14.16

the D list David Atlanta’s weekly list of truths all gay men have come to know

Beyond cut & uncut: 10 types of Penises

Banana

Shape-Shifter

Beer Can

Bicycle Pump

You always wondered how big was too big. This answer comes with a question of how to even attempt it.

Pencil

Some guys are blessed with length and girth, some not, and some only the latter. Fat Man wasn’t just an A-Bomb.

Mushroom

Bullet

Baseball Bat

Noodle

You may be confused by the Leaning Tower of Penis at first, but ever y thing will actu ally be fine.

When Heaven was hand ing out penises, they mis matched a few shor t sticks with bigger knobs.

He could swing this perfect specimen at you all day long, or at least give you a good time trying.

Growers and showers. Pig in a Blanket can become Jolly Green Giant, or promising semi could be all there is to see.

You’ll say “Oh shit,” and that’s the second reason you call this skinny-dicked guy “No. 2” from now on.

Fatter in the middle, and coming to a narrow point. Just go with it and call him Torpedo to friends later.

He thinks you’re awesome, but Zoloft is going to leave the deed undone for the foreseeable future.

Mr. Peanut

“Odd shape” doesn’t begin to describe it. You’ve seen bullets and mushrooms, but what is this?

Got an idea for an upcoming D List? Want to share your truths with the rest of the Gay-TL? Write mike@davidatlanta.com so we can include it. 58 | 9.14.16

advice

On the surface, yours is like a traditional dominant-submissive relationship. The Dom is in charge, and the Sub lets him call all the shots. The difference is that Sirs and Boys have a predetermined agreement and adore their roles. You and yours shaped your relationship into something you would have never agreed to at the start.

HEY,

Daddy!

You can either formalize your dom-sub interactions if you realize that’s what you wanted all along, or you can pull yourself up by the insecurities to change your situation. Either way, it’s crucial that you come to an understanding. You probably can’t fix it before you move, but try to sort out what you really want before approaching your husband. Hey, Daddy! We’re typical gays who eat out almost every meal, and every night is an argument about where to eat. Neither of us is ever down for the other guy’s suggestion, and we both get frustrated. Help!

Keep yourself on the right track by allowing your closest companions to help. Rely on main-squeezes, best-friends and creative partners to ease your inflamed stress levels. Don’t blow a gasket over unanticipated course-deviation or release a can of whoop-ass on someone who deserves it without talking it through with a right-hand-buddy first.

Optimistically spend each day improving the mundane conditions of whatever job will immediately benefit from your own actions. Stop hitting your head against the wall of someone else’s simplistic thinking, stubborn emotion and volatile impracticality. Actively working on yourself ‘defeats’ anybody who’d prefer to keep you as you were.

It’s easier now to glean pleasure from your leisure time and express your distinct creative spirit, but consider it a benefic tailwind, not a forgone conclusion. If you don’t do anything to actively make things happen, your complacency could actually inspire increased discontent. It’s only when you assert yourself that good things will be afoot.

The perfect complement to increasingly active social life an increasingly snug-and-secure domestic setting. Balance interactivity with a safe place that has a door you can shut tight to replenish. If tensions build, fall back on familiar home-base comforts that nurture you most deeply. Take action to augment these qualities in your life.

‘What you want to do’ versus ‘what you have to handle’ is an all too familiar a friction for you. The creative-dreamer in you is coming clearer, revealing exactly what it is that distinguishes you from the rest. But this friction isn’t flatly ‘either/ or.’ Look at longer timelines and gradual rollouts. Talk to others about this frazzling juggling-act to relieve it.

Don’t allow personal emotion to dictate how to handle business that’s not as ‘personal’ as it may feel. Beware of your own short fuses, subjective understandings and insurgent attitudes. Don’t make decisive calls of any kind. Survey circumstances, and take note of what needs addressing as you figure out remedies to employ later.

More details on your gay horoscope at

Astrobarry.com by Barry Perlman.

You’re in good shape for amazing developments, but you have to go out and make shit happen. Grab the reins and work to actualize a bigger-and-better version of yourself. One quick warning, though: No important discussions or substantive conversation this week, because you literally may have no idea what you and/or they are saying.

You may be sick-and-tired of cooperation and political correctness, but it’s an essential aspect of nabbing what you strive so hard for. Take a wait-and-see approach and firm up what you’ve already got, rather than rattle for more right now. This method of holding it together on behalf of future gains is the shrewdest posture to take.

Don’t reslove too quickly, speak too bluntly or push too forcefully. If you succumb to such impulses, the fallout could be prominent. You’ve got support, provided you actually call on them prior to trying to act alone. You’ll come out stronger and more effective by tapping into togetherness, seeking guidance, or passing the baton.

Your public profile will increase as ongoing efforts are exposed to the high-noon light for everyone to see. Capitalize on this advantageous opening by privately slashing-andburning through psychic residue from your past. Don’t engage in external combat or sending out antagonistic vibes that might attract it.

Cultivate, coddle and cherish your developing vision for your world-widening next-steps. You’re almost ready to deliver more of your particular brand of magic to a world that desperately needs it, but don’t get ahead of yourself. Nourish curiosities, explore unfamiliar territory, and carefully protect your developing vision from naysayers, rivals and pests.

Massage complexities, rather than ramming cumbersome life-components into tight spots. Other people’s psychologies need to be mulled over, but not for them –use it for a leg-up boost of your own. You give; you take. Help them understand how you feel in ways that appeal to how they feel, and allow that to inspire them to work on your behalf.
