IQUITOS.PERÚ LOCATION ACCESS Heliconia Amazon River Lodge is located on the le bank of the magnificent Amazon River in Yanamono Communal Reserve, 80 km (50 miles) from Iquitos City. TRANSPORT By Air – International flight to and from Iquitos are serviced by Copa Air, initially from Panama. From Lima, fly to Iquitos via domestic airlines with several flights daily. 90-minute flight. By Land - from the Iquitos Airport to the city, by car or van; approximately 40 minutes. From city center to Bellavista Port – 20 minutes; By Boat – From Bellavista Port to the Lodge, 90 minutes along the Amazon River.

WHAT TO SEE · Discover the Amazon River, with the largest area of land surrounding it, more tributaries than any other river in the world, habitat of about 3,000 known species of fish and astounding array of mammals and birds. · Different indigenous people and communities that live along the river and rainforest · Allpahuayo-Mishana National Reserve (58,000 hectares) protects the largest concentration of white sand forests, or varillales, best areas to go for birdwatching. · Yanamono Reserve, a protected wildlife area teeming with vast variety of flora and fauna including pink dolphins and the colossal Victoria Regia water lilies.

EXPERIENCE TRANSPORT From the airport, shared or private transport to the Bellavista Port by car. Boat transfer to and from the Lodge via motorized speed boat through the Amazon River. Hiking and walking within the rainforest and lodge grounds. SPECIAL FACTORS Agility required for visiting the jungle. Not appropriate for wheelchair or other mobility aids. Visitors must anticipate the extreme heat and humidity of the jungle by ďŹ nding out the exact weather condition at the time of travel in order to be ready with clothing and accessories.

HEALTH Please consult your doctor at least a month before entering the Amazon Basin. No cases of yellow fever or malaria have ever been reported on our property. The most common ailments for travelers are diarrhea and fatigue. Take necessary precautions with local exotic food and alcoholic beverages. Eating and drinking in moderation is always the best safety measure to avoid discomfort and unnecessary hassle while traveling. Water: Heliconia Lodge has ďŹ ltered river water that can be used for showers but is not safe to drink. Please make sure to drink distilled drinking water at all times.

WEATHER Weather along the Amazon River is differed into two seasons: a High Water season from December through May and a Low Water season that lasts from June until November. Conditions in this region in Peru remains generally warm with some rainfall even during low water season. In fact, despite being the “rainy” season, during the High Water months, the Amazon only gets about 10% more rain than in the low water season.

WHAT TO WEAR It is important that you bring only necessary clothing and travel gear to the lodge. Due to weight and space limitations on the domestic flight and on the boat to the Lodge, passenger luggage is limited to 10 kg. (22 lbs.) per person. You may store some of your luggage in our office in Iquitos City and take only the most essential during your stay. - Light co on clothes, pants and long sleeve shirts (preferably in earth colors: olive green, light brown/khakis of light, breathable, quick-dry material; please avoid using white color in the jungle) - Hiking boots or walking tennis shoes resistant to humidity; co on socks. - Bathing suit - A light water proof parka jacket, raincoat or sweater (when the temperature goes down considerably or when it rains) .

WHAT TO BRING - Hat / Cap (preferably with large visor) - Sunscreen / Sunblock. / Insect Repellent (with DEET) - Sunglasses. - Personal Medicines /medications; ďŹ rst-aid kit - Flashlight / Binoculars - Portable converter, rechargeable ba eries, electrical adaptor for your charger - Camera with big memory card; preferably in waterproof case. NOTE: When visiting Monkey Island, it is recommended not to put on any insect repellent during the visit.

SECURITY The lodge has a safe deposit box located inside each room, where guests may leave all their valuables locked; the lodge will not be responsible for their loss or misplacement. The lodge has a security guard on site 24-hours a day. CURRENCY AND FOREIGN EXCHANGE The official currency is the Nuevo Sol (PEN) divided into 100 céntimos. In Heliconia Amazon River Lodge major credit card payments are accepted. There are no facilities to exchange Travelers' cheques thus travelers are advised to have cash (in Soles) on hand as foreign currency exchange is limited. It is advisable to exchange to Soles before coming to the lodge though payment is accepted in both US Dollars and/or in Soles. Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) are mostly available only in the main cities; Lima or Iquitos. COMMUNICATION AND TELEPHONE There is limited telephones and cellular phone coverage at the lodge. There is no internet connection and access to computers is unavailable.

DINING Inspired by the tropical flavors of the Amazon region, meals and beverages at Heliconia Amazon River Lodge are prepared with fresh local ingredients.
