Welcome to the best of Spring/Summer 2018. We aim to raise the bar each & every season, in terms of both quality and design, in order to inspire you to incorporate the art of Good Living into your lifestyle and create a home that you are truly proud of. This season, we continue to place emphasis on natural materials and an earthy colour palette taking us into Summer with a relaxed and contemporary feel. Our new trends will guide you through design that is bold, authentic and timeless with a heartfelt focus on honest, handcrafted materials. We are keeping the dark tones from the cooler months and bringing them into Spring with renewed vigour. Greenery continues to flourish by embracing natures neutral and bringing the outside in! Rustic Minimalism is our focus this season, taking it back to basics with our new offering of organic naturals like rattan and bamboo. And finally we can’t wait to embrace the warmer months with a little outdoor entertaining, Al Fresco style! Our designs remain as humble as our beginnings, inspired by our travels to all four corners of the earth and precious time spent learning from our talented Artisans who continue to amaze us with their inherent skills passed down through generations. We are so excited for you to explore our trends and designs for this season, as well as for you to all connect with the people behind our products, with your support, helping us fight poverty through trade.

This season, we are keeping the dark tones from the cooler months and bringing them into Spring with renewed vigour. Create contrast with the lighter colours of the season by introducing beautiful black accents throughout your home in the form of furniture, accessories and statement pieces.

Greenery continues to flourish this season. Embrace nature’s neutral and bring the outside in by filling your home with bouquets, buds and blooms displayed in handmade artisan vases and stunning antique planters. Combining our collective career experience as well as inspiration and knowledge gained on our global travels, we created a brand based on honesty, integrity and simply great design that inspires others to live well. Taking inspiration from the worlds of fashion, different cultures and our African roots, we are committed to offering our customers handmade treasures that are lovingly created by talented artisans. Each item is representative of the hard work and skills developed over generations; woven with ounces of culture and years of heritage. To guide informed and inspired conscious consumerism, we have created the Dassie Symbols to enable our customers to learn and understand the humble beginnings of each of our unique products. All of our products have a story to tell and we want to share them with you.
Made predominantly by women.
Crafted using traditional mouth blown glass making techniques.
Pure. Produced from raw materials derived from living matter.
Created and directed in a cooperative structure, with proceeds reinvested into the community to enable self-sustainability and economic development.
Made under fair wages and in fair working conditions, supporting the development of working communities all over the world and adhering to the principles of fair trade.
Made from organic or bio-based fibres using organic processes throughout every step of textile production. This process avoids the use of harmful bleaches, dyes, and finishes.
Made using mango wood. Mango trees can grow to between 20-30 metres high, but as the tree approaches this size, they become more difficult to harvest and
eventually stop bearing fruit completely. On mango plantations, before the trees reach this size, they are replaced with young mango trees and the harvested wood becomes an additional source of income for mango farmers. The tree is cut and replanted every 7-15 years, continuing a sustainable cycle that ensures there is no harm to the environment.

MEet the Maker Punwipa Sripusa “I had fantastic training which taught me everything I know today.�
Punwipa works at our Thai ceramicist, hand throwing, forming and glazing our product range. At 23 years old, she lives with her family just 5km away. Punwipa works with many of her friends, and she has now been working there for 4 years. Punwipa speaks of her fantastic training that has allowed her to grow in her role - she was trained by her head of section and still works closely with her now. She has loved working on development and is excited for the new additions to the Organics collection, as she loves the pink tones and hand finish of the Beetroot range. In her spare time, Punwipa likes going to the salon and to Warorot food market with her friends. She also likes to make the journey to the beach when she can.

MEet the Maker Aditya “My colleague Anil is my idol�.
Aditya developed our luxurious range of marble and mango wood products, specialising in the cutting of the stone to get the completed shape. At 33 years old he is now married with a young child that he adores. Although he is from Kasna, he now lives and works in Moradabad. Aditya arrives for work each day at 8am, when his manager Anil will set him his tasks for the day. Having nurtured and mentored his specialist artisan skills, Aditya sees his colleague Anil as his idol. Together, they have developed our Marble Two-Tone and Tanet Reversible Boards. Aditya’s hobbies include singing and playing cricket, but on his days off he like to relax at home. His favourite dish in the world is fish curry from the Gulshan-e-Karim hotel. Agra is his favourite place to visit, enjoying long walks along the River Yamuna and visiting the spectacular Taj Mahal.

Matloob is an engraving specialist from Bihar, living in Moradabad. He is 38 years old and is married with 2 children who are 6 and 12 years old. Matloob values his family highly, seeing his father as his idol and spending his free time relaxing at home with his loved ones. His biggest dream in life is to provide for his family and give them a better lifestyle. He loves to listen to classical music, especially R D Burman who is his favourite artist. Matloob greatly enjoys playing chess. His favourite place in the world is the incredible Lotus Temple in New Delhi. Matloob is the talented craftsman behind our new Lekhasi Cutlery and Salad servers, which feature a stunning engraved handle in the shape of elegant leaves. These gorgeous items have been created from a single piece of high quality brass and have a lovely rose-gold colour that shows of the amazing artistry of Matloob’s specialist craft.

MEet the Maker Jintana “I admire my supervisor and I have learnt all my skills from her”.
Jintana is one of our talented, artisan candle makers, who has been perfecting her profession for 10 years. She is married and has 3 children, 2 of whom are now married and are starting their own families! She wakes up at 5am everyday and cooks her favourite food for breakfast – rice with boiled vegetables and chilli paste – before travelling to work with her husband by motorbike. Each day she receives her work plan for the day from her supervisor, who she admires and has learnt her specialist skills from. Jintana’s favourite Dassie product that she has worked on is our Pink Coral candle range, as she loves the scent and colour. In her spare time, Jintana loves spending time with her family, cooking and watching TV together, and goes to temple every Sunday. Her favourite hobby includes improving on her handicraft skills in needlework, knit and crochet – she one day hopes to open her own shop near her home to sell her own creations.

MEet the Maker Andre Jacobs “I love my job. It inspires me 100%. I really love what I’m doing”
One of our first and still most popular products are our rustic photo frames. They are produced in Cape Town, South Africa in a workshop managed by Andre. When not working, Andre prefers to chill at home than to go out. His ideal night is just relaxing in front of the TV. Although, he hasn’t always been so quiet-natured. He freely admits that when he was younger, he was a got up to all kinds of mischief and was sent to reformatory school! But it was here where he was taught woodwork skills which have now got him to where he is today. A typical day for Andre starts with opening up the shop, he oversees and helps out with the packaging of sales and orders and jumps in with the manufacturing of the frames and furniture when needed - putting those woodwork skills to work! Andre is always the last to leave, making sure that the lights are off and locking up before the end of the day.

MEet the Maker Hanh Dung “These are traditional skills. My mother taught me when I was a child”
It’s a family affair where our ever popular seagrass baskets are hand-weaved in Vietnam, where weavers like Hanh Dung and her husband work. Her sister runs the factory. Hanh Dung lives in the same village as her sister’s factory with her husband, daughter and parents inlaw. Away from work, she likes nothing more than to relax and cook for her family. Her speciality is fried chicken! She also loves listening to music and singing and dancing with her friends and family. Her day-to-day work involves both weaving the baskets themselves and checking that the sequins are adequately attached and doing a bit of quality control when the baskets are all laid out in the sun on a mat - that they weaved, of course! The whole team take pride in their work and put a huge emphasis on quality - ensuring all baskets are clean and well made before they leave the factory. That’s the beauty of working with a family business who care so much about their product.

MEet the Maker Pool Chand “My father is my mentor, I hope to follow in his footsteps and lead our team one day”.
Pool Chand is a Product Developer from India, living in the Sirohi district. He is 26 years old and is married with 2 children. He wakes up at 6am everyday and helps his wife with the children and breakfast, which they love to eat lauki curry, poha or roti sabzi. He then leaves for work and his 3 year old daughter goes to

In his spare time he likes to create Murti idols and drawings – this is the Hindu embodiment of deities through craft and drawing.

Sunday is Pool’s day off, when he likes to stay at home and do some DIY. About once a month he treats his family to a day out at the cinema or park. Whenever he gets a few days off, he likes to travel the 500km back to his hometown, particularly for festivals.
As a family man, Pool loves his wife’s cooking, especially Dal, Tikkad and Chapatti with Ghee, which she has a secret recipe for that he promises not to share! He has no pressures or expectations for his children and says that he will support them in whatever they do. However, he sees his own father as his mentor and idol, who taught him all of his skills and everything that he knows. His goal is to follow in his footsteps, leading a whole team and one day creating his own designs.

MEet the Maker Pushpa Devi “I am very shy but I love working with my family.�
Our new Ruti Loom range, made up of organic hand loomed napkins and tea towels come from India. Part of the team responsible for creating these goodies as well as our new stunning Saint Malo cushions is twenty five year old Pushpa. She lives in the village of Bashko in Bassi in the district of Jaipur in Rajasthan. Pushpa learned her skills when she married into the business. She was taught to loom by her in-laws who welcomed her into the business when they welcomed her into the family five years ago. Outside of work, Pushpa spends a lot of her time cooking up veggie delights with pulses and ghee for the family as well as running around after her two little ones, aged 3 and 5. She enjoys playing ball with them and occasionally practices yoga and meditation when all the ladies get together for community festivals.

Growing Paper
Planting Instructions 1. Prepare pot with some weed free soil 2. Moisten the soil 3. Plant the sheet under some loose soil 4. Place in a sunny spot 5. Keep moist during germination 6. Enjoy your plants, flowers and veg! Our growing paper collection is created on a farm at the foot of the Paardeberg, a beautiful setting with a full view of Table Mountain in South Africa. Each card, tag and calendar is handmade, starting with the collection of post consumer paper from local schools, banks and other businesses. The paper is then processed into pulp by adding only water. From this pulp the artisans produce handmade sheets. These sheets are then dried in a tunnel and embedded with either alyssum or poppy flower seeds, or basil and wild rocket herb seeds. These seeds will grow as soon as you plant and nurture them with the necessary water, sun and love. Now that truly is the art of good living.

The team who create our growing paper, tags and calendars is managed by the lovely Porcia, who is there to make sure everything is under control. Porcia lives in Malmesbury with her husband, sister and two sons. Outside of work, Porcia is houseproud and family-orientated and loves nothing better than playing with her two children before settling down for a delicious meal of pap and meat, a traditional southern African dish. She has been working with the team since it started doing business in 2010, and is knowledgable in all areas after learning her skills from the company founder. From making sure everyone is happy and working to their best ability, to assisting in making the paper, printing and quality control, Porcia is there to ensure everything runs smoothly at Growing Paper HQ.

Due to the handmade nature of our creations, each item is truly unique and no two will ever be identical. Any imperfections should be celebrated as a testament to the hard work of our talented artisans. We believe this adds to their beauty and charm.
Stock Level:
Due to the handmade nature of our products this can, at times, mean items are temporarily out of stock. As part of adhering to fair trade principles, we allow our suppliers long lead times to ensure our artisans are working in fair conditions and to realistic timelines. If an item is out of stock, we will let you know and give you an expected delivery date which can, on occasion, change due to factors out of our control. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
Backorders
Once an order is received we will invoice you for the items in stock and place the out of stock items on a backorder, with delivery free of charge (UK only). Once the items are back in stock we will invoice you. If you are an account customer, we will send the items out to you as soon as the stock arrives.

We aim to deliver all UK orders within 3-5 working days (excluding furniture). Returns Policy
Dassie Artisan offers a full refund on items returned within 30 calendar days of receiving the purchase. Please note that unless the item is faulty, Dassie is not held liable for any postage expenses incurred during the returns process. Livraison
Notre objectif est de livrer toutes les commandes au Royaume-Uni dans un délai de 3 à 5 jours ouvrables (à l’exception des meubles).
La plupart des services de livraison nécessitent une signature, alors assurez-vous de sélectionner une adresse de livraison où quelqu’un sera disponible pour signer. Toutes les commandes à l’étranger seront envoyées par courrier international. Le temps de livraison dépend du stock, de l’emplacement et de la taille de la commande. Bestelinformatie Minimum order
Voor de eerste bestelling bedraagt de minimale orderwaarde â‚Ź950,- (exclusief BTW). Voor nabestellingen houden wij geen minimaal orderbedrag aan.
Handmade
Als gevolg van het handgemaakte karakter, is elk item uniek gemaakt en zullen geen twee artikelen identiek zijn. Wij geloven dus ook niet in onvolkomenheden, maar zien dat als een uniek bewijs en ontwikkeling van het talent van de ambachtslieden waar wij mee samenwerken. Dit draagt bij aan de schoonheid en charme van onze producten
Voorraad
Als gevolg van het handgemaakte karakter van onze producten kan dit soms betekenen dat items tijdelijk niet op voorraad zijn. Wij onderschrijven de principes van eerlijke handel in reĂŤle omstandigheden en in realistische tijdlijnen. Als een product niet op voorraad is, zullen wij u dit laten weten en geven wij een verwachte leverdatum aan. Behalve indien er factoren spelen die buiten onze invloedsfeer liggen. Onze excuses voor het eventuele ongemak dat dit kan veroorzaken.
We zijn ook erg benieuwd waar de producten van Dassie Artisan een mooi plekje krijgen. Deel uw foto’s en inspiratie met ons door #mydassie te gebruiken op social media.
Levering
Wij streven ernaar om 80% van de bestellingen binnen 15 werkdagen te leveren. De meeste leveringen vereisen een handtekening voor ontvangst, dus zorg ervoor dat er op het doorgegeven bezorgadres iemand aanwezig is om te tekenen.
Verzendkosten
Voor bestellingen tot â‚Ź950,- brengen wij 4% van de totale bestelling in rekening als verzendkosten. Voor bestellingen boven de â‚Ź950,- brengen wij 2% van de totale bestelling in rekening als verzendkosten.
Nabestellingen
Zodra een bestelling is verstuurd, zullen wij de geleverde items factureren. De niet geleverde items worden op een back-order geplaatst. Zodra deze items weer op voorraad zijn, worden ze geleverd en zullen wij deze factureren.
Schade en onvolledige bestellingen
Voorafgaand aan de verzending zal de bestelling zorgvuldig gecontroleerd worden. Blijkt er toch een probleem te zijn, neem dan binnen 5 werkdagen contact met ons op. Samen zullen we dan zorgen voor een passende oplossing.
Betalingstermijn
