LOS ANGELES, CA -- The Los Angeles Police Department Northeast Area homicide detectives are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect(s) responsible for the death of a man found bludgeoned. On Monday, July 27, 2015, around 3:25 p.m., Northeast Area patrol officers responded to a radio call of “Ambulance Man Down” at the 4700 block of North Figueroa Street in Highland Park. Jimmy Cater Calls America An Oligarchy On The Thom Hartmann Show Former U.S. President Says Current System Has Unlimited Political Bribery

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Late last week former President Jimmy Carter appeared on the progressive radio show of Thom Hartmann. The left leaning radio personality asked Carter...”Our Supreme Court has now said, “unlimited money in politics.” It seems like a violation of principles of democracy. … Your thoughts on that?” Former President Carter responded...” It violates the essence of what made America a great country in its political system. Now it’s just an oligarchy, with unlimited political bribery being the essence of getting the nominations for president or to elect the president. And the same thing applies to governors and U.S. senators and congress members. So now we’ve just seen a complete subversion of our political system as a payoff to major contributors, who want and expect and sometimes get favors for themselves after the election’s over. … The incumbents, Democrats and Republicans, look upon this unlimited money as a great benefit to themselves. Somebody’s who’s already in Congress has a lot more to sell to an avid contributor than somebody who’s just a challenger.” (For more information on Thom Hartmann, please visit www.thomhartmann.com.)

Draft Biden Movement Gaining Serious Momentum

The Vice President of the United States Joe Biden has not ruled out a White House run, and said he will decide by the end of summer. There is also a serious group of activists and volunteers that has started laying the groundwork for a Biden run. “Whether it’s the issues we face today, or the challenges going forward, we believe there is no stronger candidate in the race to lead us than Vice President Joe Biden. From his powerful role in the Obama administration to his years as the Senator from Delaware. But before he can lead, we need to stand behind him.” “Draft Biden 2016 is preparing the groundwork for Biden in the early states of New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Iowa. We are building up an army of volunteers and supporters around the country, ready for Biden when he enters the race. With over 20,000 signatures to our petition, the movement continues to grow for the VP to get in. We’re confident we can return Joe Biden to the Executive branch in 2016.” A strange cooling trend will hit Van Nuys & Glendale on Thursday .

in the downwind part of a thunderstorm echo. The V-notch often is seen on supercells, and is thought to be a sign of diverging flow around the main storm updraft (and hence a very strong updraft). This term should not be confused with inflow notch or with enhanced V, although the latter is believed to form by a similar process. www.noaa.gov

America’s busiest eight-lane freeways. He was very, very lucky. But most wildlife aren’t. Many mountain lions and other wildlife never made it as far as P22 did. They were struck and killed by vehicles. Now, P22 is trapped on the wrong side of the freeway, and cannot get back to other mountain lions and the larger range that mountain lions need. You can help mountain lions and other wildlife living in the hills near Los Angeles by calling on the U.S. Department of Transportation to provide safe passage between remaining protected habitat areas. There is widespread support to create a wildlife crossing where the 101 freeway crosses an undeveloped canyon that connects two vital wildlife habitat areas. But it won’t get built without people like you raising your voices and urging the United States Department of Transportation to give wildlife like P-22 safe crossing through Liberty Canyon. Help mountain lions and other wildlife who make their home in the Santa Monica Mountains — urge the U.S. Department of Transportation to support the creation of a wildlife crossing at Liberty Canyon.

His only granddaughter Elizabeth – daughter of Susanna – died childless in 1670. Shakespeare therefore has no descendants. ~ Shakespeare lived a double life. By the seventeenth century he had become a famous playwright in London but in his hometown of Stratford, where his wife and children were, and which he visited frequently, he was a well known and highly respected businessman and property owner. ~ Although it was illegal to be a Catholic in Shakespeare’s lifetime, the Anglican Archdeacon, Richard Davies of Lichfield, who had known him wrote some time after Shakespeare’s death that he had been a Catholic. ~ Suicide occurs an unlucky thirteen times in Shakespeare’s plays. First item on the itinerary is a sightseeing tour focused on the ‘We Are Marshall’ Movie Sites. This evening visit the Heritage Farm Museum & Village. You are in for a historical treat as you step into a frontier cabin (ca 1850) and learn of a frontier life based on agriculture and barter, as you tour from building to building the decades pass and you have witnessed 50 years of rapid change in American life as we moved from an agrarian to an industrialized society. This village museum was used in filming of Kevin Costner’s 2012 Docu-drama “The Hatfield & McCoys. A private pork and poultry farm buffet will be provided for you here in the Welcome Center following your tour. Day 2 – Your day begins with a tour of the Blenko Glass Factory one of the last producers of hand blown glass in America. Then with your local guide you travel south into the coalfields. You will learn about the Matewan Massacre which occurred during a labor dispute in 1920. Miners here, who had joined the newly formed UMW, were being fired and evicted from their company owned homes. It was a hostile atmosphere with mines owners hiring mercenary guards which led to shootings. Coal miners from across West Virginia tied red bandanas around there necks and marched to Matewan in support. Did you know that it was from this March, and those bandanas, that the phrase “Redneck was first coined. It may surprise you to know that the Matewan Chief of Police was one Sid Hatfield, a descendant of the Hatfields involved in the bitter fuedal rivalry that occurred between 1878 and 1891, they were in the very middle of this shooting too. Your afternoon features narrated sightseeing to some of the actual Hatfield & McCoy fued sites and a history of the events that occurred here in the back country of West Virginia. This evening your group will enjoy a Stolen Pig Dinner, with all the trimmings followed by a story teller or musical entertainment. Day 3 – Today begins on a train traveling from Huntington to White Sulphur Springs. With a narrator you wind through the scenic New River Gorge, the evergreen “Grand Canyon of the East. This train ride ends at The Greenbrier Resort’s Rail Station where your bus is waiting. You then drive into The Greenbrier for a marvelous lunch. During your visit a most unusual history tour awaits. You visit The Greenbrier’s Cold War Bunker. Built by the Eisenhower Administration. It was a Fall Out Shelter for Congress in the event of a Nuclear Attack. This secret facility existed for 30 years, in plain sight, yet hidden from both hotel employees and guests. It’s a fascinating story and you will learn how the pantries were stocked and replenished with fresh produce and supplies. At any moment there was enough fresh water and food here to support the entire House & Senate

for 60 days. Lodging this evening is in Lewisburg, WV (Fairfield Inn or similar). Once you’ve had a chance to check in to your room, enjoy a group dinner at Food & Friends followed by time to visit the shops and galleries on Main Street. Day 4 – Another day of great adventure begins as you motor north into the Alleghenies, your destination is the townsite of Cass. It looks much today as it did in its heyday as a company logging town. Restored company houses line the hillside. Then it’s an exciting moment as you board a steam locomotive and pull out of the depot. This was a logging route with grades as steep as 11%, you’ll climb through deep forest with a beauty as old as the hills, then suddenly you will break out above the timber and enjoy a view of West Virginia that is beyond words. Transfer onto the Cheat Mountain Salamander’s climate controlled passenger cars at Spruce and ride through the wild, high-mountain wilderness of West Virginia. A photo stop is made at the High Falls of the Cheat River. 18 feet tall and 150 feet across this beautiful location is 5 miles from the closest road. After High Falls your train follows the tumbling Cheat through another 21 miles of scenic wilderness. This is unspoiled and uninhabited forest, with gorgeous tree topped mountain vistas, where hardwoods and evergreens grow to the edge of boulder strewn white water rivers. During the ride you enjoy a Sandwich Buffet served in the “Red Spruce dining car. Travel into Into Elkins this evening for two nights at Holiday Inn Express, Isaac Jackson Hotel or similar. Dinner this evening is at Elkin’s newest theater The Gandy Dancer. In a beautiful new dining room you have a very nice meal followed by the Mountain Memories Show Band. This musical variety show is filled with high energy music and family-friendly comedy. It’s an unforgettable evening at West Virginia’s hottest new theater. Day 5 – This morning you begin your journey at the Durbin Depot, here the coal fired Durbin Rocket is bellowing smoke and anxious to start another exciting mountain rail expedition. Built in 1910 this steam locomotive pulls an authentic 1920s-era coach car and vintage wooden cabooses along the free-flowing Greenbrier River. This 10-1/2 mile ride scenic ride is through the Monongahela National Forest. Next, you cross over into the next valley and find it filled with giant satellite dishes. This is the Green Bank Radio Astronomy Observatory intentionally located in one of America’s most quiet spots. Here our scientists are listening for sounds from space. During your visit lunch will be provided. Dinner is at a local Elkin’s restaurant chosen because of the hotel selected or the Group Leader’s wish. Your meal is followed by a two hour show next door at the American Mountain Theater. It’s a variety of music styles that include country, gospel, pop and patriotic tunes. All blended together with a little homespun humor to provide you a warm and wonderful evening. Day 6 – This morning you depart for home. Don’t leave us without adding a little more Wild & Wonderful to your tour. These include Blackwater Falls, the New River Gorge Bridge, Highland Scenic Highway, Seneca Rocks & the magnificent Allegheny Range to our East; plus a Dog Sled Class, a Lunatic Asylum and more. It doesn’t matter which direction you travel, West Virginia has many other wonderful photo stops that U.S. Tours can add to your day. Survey Shows Americans’ Views On Dental Hygiene Differ By Region

(NewsUSA) - Does where you live impact your flossing and dental hygiene habits? A new national survey conducted by Harris Poll on behalf of the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) shows it does. For instance, while more than a quarter of adults surveyed said they lied to their dentists about how often they floss their teeth, those who live in Atlanta (82 percent) are more likely to be honest about how often they floss. Could that be Southern manners at play? Conversely, one in five, or 20 percent, of Chicagoans said they would rather sit in an hour of the city’s notorious gridlock traffic than floss daily. In D.C., less than one in five participants, or 18 percent, said they would let a friend know if they had something in their teeth. Other key survey findings by geographic region: * Three in five (60 percent) of U.S. adults, including New Yorkers, who have a partner say their partner’s oral health has an effect on their intimacy. * Twenty percent of Houstonians guessed incorrectly when asked what a periodontist treat-ed versus a majority of those in other metro areas. * Almost half of those in Los Angeles (45 percent) and Boston (44 percent) are more likely than those who live in Chicago or Houston to say a smile is the first thing they notice when meeting someone they are attracted to. * 21 percent of Philadelphians would rather wait in a long check-out line than floss. So, while the survey indicates oral health habits may differ from region to region, it also clearly shows that Americans do have one thing in common -- we all don’t floss as frequently as we should. While flossing should only take an extra minute or two each day, it would appear it’s more than we’re willing to give. There are more than 500 bacterial species that can be found in dental plaque, which brushing alone won’t remove, so that should be incentive enough to get flossing. Whatever the reason for our reluctance to floss, there are benefits to showing your teeth a little love, according to the AAP. The most obvious is that flossing prevents plaque, and those 500 bacterial species, from building up below the gum line, causing swelling and eventually leading to periodontal disease. If left untreated, periodontal disease can lead to a host of oral health issues such as receding gums, tooth decay and tooth loss, and is even linked to other chronic diseases like diabetes and cardiovascular disease. The good news is that periodontal disease is preventable by brushing at least twice a day, flossing once a day and receiving an annual comprehensive periodontal evaluation. If you are at risk for or have gum disease, a periodontist has the specialized training and expertise for the right treatment. (For more information, visit www.perio.org.)

Celebrating Fifty Years Of Medicare And Medicaid

WASHINGTON, DC — In this week’s address, the President celebrated the fiftieth birthdays of Medicare and Medicaid, which together have allowed millions to live longer and better lives. These programs are a promise that if we work hard, and play by the rules, we’ll be rewarded with a basic measure of dignity, security, and the freedom to live our lives as we want. Every American deserves the sense of safety and security that comes with health insurance. That’s why the President signed the Affordable Care Act, and that’s why he will continue to work to ensure that Medicare and Medicaid, programs that are fundamental to our way of life, stay strong. “Hi, everybody. This week, there was a big birthday you might have missed. Medicare and Medicaid turned 50 years old. And that’s something worth celebrating. If one of the best measures of a country is how it treats its more vulnerable citizens -- seniors, the poor, the sick -- then America has a lot to be proud of. Think about it. Before Social Security, too many seniors lived in poverty. Before Medicare, only half had some form of health insurance. Before Medicaid, parents often had no help covering the cost of care for a child with a disability. But as Americans, we declared that our citizens deserve a basic measure of security and dignity. And today, the poverty rate for seniors is less than half of what it was fifty years ago. Every American over 65 has access to affordable health care. And today, we’re finally finishing the job -- since I signed the Affordable Care Act into law, the uninsured rate for all Americans has fallen by about one-third.

Monday, August 3rd - Sunday, August 9th, 2015

These promises we made as a nation have saved millions of our own people from poverty and hardship, allowing us new freedom, new independence, and the chance to live longer, better lives. That’s something to be proud of. It’s heroic. These endeavors -- these American endeavors -- they didn’t just make us a better country. They reaffirmed that we are a great country. And a great country keeps the promises it makes. Today, we’re often told that Medicare and Medicaid are in crisis. But that’s usually a political excuse to cut their funding, privatize them, or phase them out entirely -- all of which would undermine their core guarantee. The truth is, these programs aren’t in crisis. Nor have they kept us from cutting our deficits by two-thirds since I took office. What is true is that every month, another 250,000 Americans turn 65 years old, and become eligible for Medicare. And we all deserve a health care system that delivers efficient, high-quality care. So to keep these programs strong, we’ll have to make smart changes over time, just like we always have. Today, we’re actually proving that’s possible. The Affordable Care Act has already helped secure Medicare’s funding for another 13 years. The Affordable Care Act has saved more than nine million folks on Medicare 15 billion dollars on their prescription medicine. It has expanded Medicaid to help cover 12.8 million more Americans, and to help more seniors live independently. And we’re moving our health care system toward models that reward the quality of the care you receive, not the quantity of care you receive. That means healthier Americans and a healthier federal budget. Today, these programs are so fundamental to our way of life that it’s easy to forget how hard people fought against them at the time. When FDR created Social Security, critics called it socialism. When JFK and LBJ worked to create Medicare, the cynics said it would take away our freedom. But ultimately, we came to see these programs for what they truly are -- a promise that if we work hard, and play by the rules, we’ll be rewarded with a basic measure of dignity, security, and the freedom to live our lives as we want. It’s a promise that previous generations made to us, and a promise that our generation has to keep. Thanks, and have a great week.”

The Recipes Of Miami Mix With The Fresh Ingredients Of Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica Celebrity chefs return to Arenas Del Mar Beachfront & Rainforest Resort in Costa Rica for Guest Chefs weeks (Sept. 6 - 10 and Oct. 4 - 8, 2015)

COSTA RICA, CENTRAL AMERICA -- Arenas Del Mar Beachfront & Rainforest Resort is launching its fourth season of Guest Chefs events featuring two critically-acclaimed chefs from Miami, FL, who plan to bring their culinary style and skills to the Costa Rican coast. Guest Chefs programming includes three gourmet dinners; two cooking classes with the chefs; supplementary activities such as coffee, rum and wine tasting sessions; and access to the resort’s on-site amenities, including its two chlorine-free pools; and easy access to the white sand beaches and adjacent Manuel Antonio National Park. Green Season pricing at Arenas Del Mar starting at $270 USD per night for Garden rooms and $310 USD per night for Ocean Breeze Superior rooms (based on double occupancy). For decades, Costa Rican cuisine was defined by simple fare, including the popular Casado – a dish prepared with rice and beans as its base. Thanks in part to the increase in interest and visitation by North Americans the country has begun to showcase their artisanal chocolate, organic coffee, farmstead cheeses, and growing craft beer industry. Previous Guest Chefs weeks have highlighted this shifting culinary scene, mixing fresh food with the expertise of some of North America’s leading and most innovative chefs. “Our guest chefs work with our local chefs to discover local recipes and ingredients, and also pass on their own tastes and techniques, so as you can imagine there is a lot of creativity going on in the kitchen,” says Hans Pfister, principal of the Cayuga Collection, which manages Arenas Del Mar Beachfront & Rainforest Resort. “When we started in 2012, we knew that our guest chefs would be intrigued by the chance to use fresh, tropical ingredients, but we were thrilled to see their interest in Costa Rican cuisine. The result was the perfect mix of cultures through the dishes that these chefs prepared with our culinary team.” Guest Chefs weeks have proved to be as popular with guests as they are with the visiting chefs and Arenas Del Mar’s culinary team. The guests love meeting some of their cooking idols, the guest chefs love having the chance to work with fresh Costa Rican ingredients, and the culinary team at Arenas Del Mar have the chance to cook and learn with acclaimed chefs. The national diet of Costa Rica is corn-based, rather than wheat-based, and because all Arenas Del Mar’s ingredients are local and fresh, there is little need for artificial preservatives, prepared sauces, or other products. The increase of gluten free diets in North America – close to 30 per cent of Americans identify as gluten free according to a study by NPD Group – has helped to enhance the menus at Arenas Del Mar, with the property highlighting its naturally gluten free ingredients. One of the San Francisco Bay Area’s Finest Golf Clubs

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- The Course at Green Hills was designed by famed architect Dr. Alister MacKenzie, who designed over 100 golf courses - three of such high caliber they are ranked in the world’s top 20 - Cypress Point (Pebble Beach CA), Royal Melbourne (Melbourne, Australia), and Augusta National (Augusta GA), site of the Masters.

Known among golfers as being the best maintained course in the area, our golf course is a true manifestation of MacKenzie’s design philosophy: ~A really great golf course must be a constant source of pleasure to the greatest number of players; ~It must require strategy in playing as well as skill, otherwise it cannot continue to hold the golfer’s interest; ~It must give the average player a fair chance, and at the same time, it must require the utmost from the expert who tries for sub-par scores; and ~All natural beauty should be preserved, natural hazards should be utilized and artificiality should be minimized. Enjoy the California native landscaping to the fullest by skipping the golf cart and carrying your bag, or picking up a push cart for your round on this beautiful, walkable course. The serene setting, tree lined fairways, and unsurpassed natural beauty of Green Hills will cause you to soon forget that you are still only minutes from the hustle and bustle of city life. Green Hills features a classic championship 18 hole golf course, designed by master architect Dr. Alister MacKenzie. The club also boasts a state of the art practice facility and junior golf program. Site of the 1997 MacKenzie Cup, N.C.G.A.. W.G.A.N.C. and U.S.G.A. events, and having served as a U.S. Open qualifying site, Green Hill’s par 71 layout has challenged many of the world’s finest golfers. (www.greenhillscc.com)
