electives sculpture CPCA578 Wireworks Sculpture Workshop

E

In this workshop participants will practice with techniques using various wires and mesh to construct a structure and profile of objects. Students can choose to construct one of the following: dragonfly, grasshopper, duck, loon or ptarmigan, dolphin, cobra or butterfly. Procedures such as building the body and legs of birds, insects and spiders, etc. will be demonstrated and stages of numerous sculptures to build will be on display as guides. Usually there is no soldering, gluing, brazing or welding in most objects, since it may be necessary to do so, some effort may be made to employ these as well. Also, other media such as plaster, cement etc. can be combined with wire works. Information on and samples (supplies) of materials to recycle and re purpose for use will be available. Numerous hand tools will be on hand and available to work with. Fee: $165 Credit hours: 19.5 Dates and Times

Jewelry CPCA557 Silver Clay Workshop

Learn to transform a pinch of clay into a fine silver piece of artistic jewelry. Students will be guided through the formation, firing and finishing processes to complete a pendant using a revolutionary product called silver clay. Time permitting, students will be encouraged to complete additional projects. One 25g package of clay is included in the course cost which will complete one project. Additional materials will need to be purchased for other projects. Fee: $175 (1 pkg. silver clay included) Credit hours: 11 Dates and Times

CPCA586 Silversmithing: Basic Skills for Silver Jewelry

E

The class will teach the basic skills needed to use traditional hand tools suitable for making jewelry in a small workshop or studio environment. Participants will design and fabricate at least one piece of jewelry over the course of the workshop. The two classes (fall & winter) will be set up to accommodate both beginners and non-beginners. (A basic tool kit approx. value $100 can be purchased from the instructor for the class). The workshop will introduce the participants to the following concepts: 1. annealing and soldering 2. use of a jewelers saw 3. layout, drilling holes, measuring etc. 4. use of a rolling mill 5. texturing with hand, burs, rolling mill etc. 6. Tool care 7. finishing and polishing 8. design concepts, slide show of some contemporary jewelers pieces 9. safety in the jewelry studio Fee: $175 Credit hours: 19.5 Dates and Times
