Eye Soar will rock the Elks house for Blue Ridge Opportunities Blue Ridge Opportunities will hold its annual Valentine’s Day Dance and fundraiser on Friday, Feb. 10, at the Elk’s Lodge on Guard Hill Road from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Food – very good and lots of it, we have been promised – will be provided. Local, classic rock band Eye Soar – always a good show – will provide the live entertainment with sound by John Bracken. The event is BYOB, with mixers and beer available at a cash bar. Town’s oldest employee back on the job
Philip Funk, at 93 this April, continues as the Town’s oldest employee. Philip returned to his job at the Manassas Street Refuse and Recycling Center on Feb. 2, after a lengthy recovery from a car-train collision last September (he was in the car). Funk was driving from work when he was blind-sided by a train (he looked left, the train came from the right at an un-gated crossing). Funk recuperated from a hip injury at Lynn Care Center for a spell and then had to pass the driver’s test to regain his license. He says he couldn’t be happier about being back on the job checking cars in and out of the refuse disposal site. Photo Malcolm Barr Sr.
