First architectural project conceived at the school, this work is practically reduced to the solution of the ground plan. It consists of the housing of a family formed by a writer with a single daughter, demanding a working space and a guest room. We tried to maximally reduce the corridor and to keep the study independent. The land measured 25x20 meters, placed at the coast of the Valencia Community.

Extension of the Catasus House (catalan architect José Antonio Coderch, 1958). This project takes place in Sitges (Mediterranean coast, close to Barcelona). The new building tries to solve the housing of the family’s artist son, reinterpreting the compositional patterns of the original house, reusing the construction with bearing walls. The need to create an space with double height for the sculptural activities of the new owner, as well as the interest to keep the pre-existing horizontal lines, justify the partial sinking of the building.

As in the Catasus House, we resort to a spatial hierarchy increasing the boundaries by one meter steps. We create a path for possible exhibitions: from the entrance to the kitchen/bar space, crossing the double height where the working area can be seen but without access to it.

This housing complex consists of a three square ground plan. These are identical squares, each formed by four different housing, all except one of them are solved into two stories. The aspect and solar protection tend to energy saving. Another idea of the project was to open views into the sea and to create a continuous green space inside, along the complex. Like a Roman Impluvium, the roof is tilted towards this empty interior.

XII CBV COMPETITION : « DESIGN OF A WHITE CONCRETE LATTICE ELEMENT » In this contest, we needed to create a lattice element which allowed different compositions, suitable for the contemporary architectural language. We tried to invent an asymmetric piece with the biggest number of possible positions, all the pieces being compatible between them. This project was realized with Borja Tur Aguilar.

We search a solution for a field station combined with a pier. We consider a compact building with the idea of comings and goings between the recovered space over the water (observation point) and the lost space to go on board. The structure and lightness of the materials allow the flight of the building over the water. This association is underlined by the staircase (it rises directly on the water), but also by the permeability of the construction.
It stays open to the outside, only some glass panels avoid the air currents. The shop clerk, protected by those panels, would be the main user of the bay window. Thus, a space secondary in principle, gains some importance: The shop back balcony that opens over the double height of the pier waiting area. This part is transformed into a social space, not only a place in contact with nature as demanded by the program.

A research center, placed in a natural environment, with housing for the researchers, represents a combination of two different forms to inhabit architecture. These two aspects of the program were separated into different blocks. An initial scheme of the project was to create multiple relationships between the areas, thus avoiding an aggregate system along a corridor or a gallery. This justifies the relative position of the different rooms, the library, for example, between the laboratories and the rest area, since it can serve directly both places; and the reception next to the administration is placed in a central position for a fast control of the different areas of the building. These connections between several parts of the program are possible due to filter spaces, such as the shelves of the library, the general store and the administration area. A height difference between the library or the labs and the rest of the program, besides of being justified by practical questions (odours and sound), allows a change in the perception of the environment, important to separate a rest area from a working zone.
