What we see when we look?
It is estimated most of the planet will live in cities in the very near future. These pictures show the human figure against the backdrop of its own mathematical constructions. Man lives shut up in his own mind, a stage where he can confront both himself and his creations: theater, literature, music; the mysteries of being, civility, love and crime. My take on photography is that it is closer to music and poetry than to anything we might call “truth�. Images contain secrets that will never be fully revealed. They hold intrigue and spark assumptions. What is it we see, then, when we look? Children know things long before they have the words to name them. To interact with them, they simply smile, or scream or cry. A series of photographs is like a movie in which, in order to participate, the audience must fill in the blanks, spy and play in the universe they unfold, making characters jump from frame to frame and build, with that lot, a reality which does not question what is true and what is fiction. It is a simple game of the mind that is part of the artistic nature.

About the Artist Daniel Karp is an Argentine artist working in photography, filmmaking and writing. He has published a photo book on Buenos Aires and several portfolios of his work. He has also worked as Director of Photography in acclaimed argentine movies, is a regular collaborator of Revista Living Argentina, has exhibited his work in Argentina, Paraguay, Brasil and Holland and has lived in Chile and Los Angeles, California.
