Psychological Evaluation The psychological evaluation is a fundamental requirement for all bariatric surgical patients. We recognize that the choice to have bariatric surgery is an important one that can affect patients both physically and emotionally. The need to identify any obstacles or issues that may be affecting a patient’s emotional health is critical to a successful outcome for bariatric surgery. These issues may include (but are not limited to) depression, anxiety, addiction, or disordered eating patterns and can be addressed if recognized so that you achieve long-term success with your bariatric surgery. You will meet with one of our therapy specialists to conduct this evaluation in a comfortable setting. The possibility of delaying surgery based on the evaluation exists if issues are identified by the bariatric team that may be an obstacle to your success or affect your surgical safety. You will need to follow up on these recommendations, and be aware that received documentation will keep your bariatric team apprised of your progress and ability to proceed toward surgery.
