Dear Friends, Colleagues, and Supporters,

Looking

back on

this past year, I am struck by the remarkable journey DANI has taken. What began as a dream—a vision to create opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities, has grown into a cornerstone of support, empowerment, and community for so many individuals and families.

This past year has been another testament to the strength and determination of our community. Through hard work, collaboration, and unwavering belief in what we do, we have expanded our programs, deepened our impact, and reached even more individuals in need of the resources and opportunities that allow them to thrive. Every step forward is a reminder of how far we have come, from a small grassroots effort to an established leader in the field, shaping the future of inclusivity and accessibility.

What makes DANI truly special is the way we approach everything we do—with heart, innovation, and with a steadfast commitment to breaking barriers. We have continued to grow in strategic and deeply meaningful ways, creating new opportunities for independence, enhancing the skills and confidence of those we serve, and strengthening the relationships that make our work so impactful. Every day, we see the transformative power of belonging, of purpose, and of the belief that everyone has something valuable to contribute.

None of this would be possible without our supporters. It is your belief in DANI’s mission that allows us to do this work. Whether through volunteering, participating in our fundraisers, advocating on our behalf, or simply being part of this journey, you are an integral part of what makes this organization strong. Your generosity fuels our programs, your time enriches our community, and your commitment inspires us to continue pushing forward, to do more, to reach higher, and to dream even bigger.

As we move into another year, we do so with excitement, with ambition, and with a renewed sense of purpose. The road ahead is filled with opportunities to grow, to innovate, and to ensure that every person who comes through our doors feels seen, supported, and empowered. There is still work to be done, still lives to

be changed, still progress to be made. But with your continued partnership, I have no doubt that the best is yet to come.

Together, we are building something extraordinary, and I cannot wait to see where this next year takes us.

With deepest gratitude,

Introduction to the Report

DANI’s commitment to fostering a warm, welcoming environment is not just about the present—it is about ensuring that participants are recognized for the contributions they make today and the extraordinary impact they will continue to have in the future.

DANI began as the heartfelt vision of two extraordinary women, Kathy Laszlo and Susie Sokol, who saw the transition into adulthood for their children with developmental disabilities as an opportunity to create something deeply meaningful. They dreamed of a space that was warm, responsive, and filled with possibility—a place where their children and others could grow, achieve their goals, and find their place as valued members of the community.

What started as an aspiration has, over the past 18 years, evolved into a thriving and deeply interconnected network of people, programs, and relationships that define what it truly means to belong.

At the heart of DANI are the relationships that have been nurtured over nearly two decades. The bonds between participants who support and inspire one another, the connections with families who trust DANI to provide opportunities for their loved ones, and the partnerships with local businesses and organizations that open doors to real-world experiences are all part of what makes DANI extraordinary. Volunteers, placement students, and community members who engage with DANI are not simply offering support; they become part of something greater—a dynamic, inclusive environment where each individual is seen and valued for their inherent worth.

“Even as DANI has grown in scope, professionalism, and accomplishments, the core vision that shaped its foundation remains at the forefront. Every expansion, every new initiative, and every program is guided by the same

dedication to creating a responsive, person-directed community where individuals are recognized for their strengths and potential.”

The commitment to upholding our mission and vision while embracing new opportunities is a balance that DANI approaches with care and intention. No matter how large the organization becomes, the essence of DANI will always be that of a close-knit, supportive community—a family that looks out for one another and celebrates each success, no matter how big or small.

There is something truly special about the atmosphere at DANI. It is felt in the pride of participants who work together to produce a full-scale theatrical performance at the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts. It is evident in the unwavering encouragement between members as they take significant life steps, such as transitioning from their family homes into DANI’s new residential program. Whether building a model space shuttle as a team or taking the courageous step of speaking publicly as a self-advocate, every accomplishment is shared and celebrated.

This spirit of support and inclusivity is embedded into every process at DANI, from the way programs are audited to how individual goals are set and achieved. Every new initiative is evaluated through the lens of what will best serve the individuals who are part of the DANI community, ensuring they have the opportunities, resources, and encouragement to thrive.

Continued Strategy and Growth

DANI expanded its reach by strengthening financial sustainability through strategic investments in employment initiatives, social enterprises, residential programs, and structured project development, reinforced DANI’s long-term vision for impact and inclusion.

The WorkWise Initiative, launched in 2023, continues to bridge the employment gap for neurodiverse adults effectively. In 2024, the initiative secured funding from two major sponsors, enabling significant expansion in the years to come. This growth will increase employer partnerships, enhance participant support systems, and create more job placement opportunities.

DANI strengthened its commitment to community inclusion and personal development in 2024 by expanding the ACE (former “Day”) Program. This program, which fosters independence, social engagement, and community participation secured dedicated funding for a 20% expansion over the next two years. This investment will allow DANI to serve more participants while enhancing ACE’s activities and support services. The program remains fundamental to DANI’s mission, ensuring neurodiverse adults access a rich community experience that builds confidence, independence, and personal growth.

Beyond existing initiatives, 2024 saw the announcement of the Skills Training and Employment Program (STEP). Set to launch in 2025, STEP will equip neurodiverse adults with industry recognized certifications and credentialized courses, creating new paths to sustainable employment, and completing our full-continuum of vocational services.

DANI reached a major milestone with the November opening of its first residential home. Built to foster stability, independence, and engagement, this initiative culminates years of planning with families and stakeholders. Its success sets a model for future residential developments that prioritize inclusion and long-term support.

DANI’s social enterprises flourished in 2024, serving

both as revenue generators and meaningful employment hubs. Three businesses earned Buy Social Canada certification, highlighting their impact on the social enterprise landscape. The hiring of DANI’s first dedicated gift store manager late in the year improved retail operations and revenue.

Community engagement drove DANI’s success this year through major awareness and fundraising events. The inaugural “Chopped for Charity” event with distinguished judges, including MP Melissa Lantsman, MPP Laura Smith, and Vaughan Mayor Steven Del Duca, enhanced the initiative’s visibility. Later, DANI hosted a landmark concert featuring America’s Got Talent winner Kodi Lee, raising funds and awareness.

Financial resilience anchors DANI’s strategic vision. Through diversified revenue—combining donor contributions, social enterprise growth, and foundation funding—DANI leads in sustainable nonprofit management.

To enhance sustainability, DANI formalized its internal processes for better decision-making and project management. The Commercialization Readiness Framework (CRF) consultation led to implementing a Stage Gate System; a structured model ensuring new initiatives align with strategic goals. A new Project Charter system standardizes opportunity evaluation and resource allocation.

After a transformative year, DANI stands ready for continued success. The growth in community programs, residential services, and social enterprises reflects a vision built on sustainability and impact. The foundation laid in 2024 ensures more individuals will access the training, community engagement, and support needed for an independent, fulfilling future.

Strong and Sustainable Financial Foundation

DANI has established itself as resilient and forward-thinking, with a strong financial foundation, consistently showing robust financial growth over the past decade. Our revenue has been increasing substantially over the years, reflecting our expanding influence and the strong support we receive from the community.

In 2013, our revenue was $825,000 and by 2024 it was $2,600,000, reflecting our expanding influence and the strong support we receive from the community.

The Azrieli Foundation, who continues to be a strong partner with DANI, and at the end of 2024 provided funding to further expand the ACE program by 20% over the next two years.

The years 2022 and 2023 were marked by continued recovery from the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, which made fundraising especially difficult. In 2024, we successfully balanced our budget, signaling the completion of our financial recovery.

Building on that momentum, we established both an endowment and an emergency fund at the Jewish Foundation in 2025 to ensure long-term stability and financial resilience.

A significant portion of our revenue comes from the generous support of a broad base of dedicated donors. Our 36-hour campaign continues to grow year after year, demonstrating the strength of our community. This year’s campaign was a resounding success, raising $637,449—an impressive 118% of our goal.

DANI has partnered with the Sinneave Foundation, which provides funding to cover 80 hours of job matching, soft-skills training, and on-the-job coaching as part of our vocational services.

DataCamp, an online IT learning platform, has donated $48,000 of course subscriptions on an annual basis for staff professional development and for our upcoming STEP initiative, with the agreement to sustain for many years, and a committed to increasing support as the initiative grows.

In December 2024, DANI hosted a remarkable fundraising concert featuring America’s Got Talent winner Kodi Lee. The event garnered significant support and helped raise community awareness of DANI’s mission. A special highlight of the evening was the Mayor of Vaughan’s surprise presentation of a $10,000 cheque at the VIP reception.

DANI will be hosting its first ever golf tournament in August 2025 at the Lebovic Golf Club, and has already raised $50,000 in advance of the event.

We actively pursue grants from various sources, ensuring a diverse funding base. Notable supporters include the OTF, TMU, and key foundation partners such as The Azrieli Foundation, The Friedberg Family Foundation, and The Wolf Lebovic Charitable Foundation, Michael and Libby Goldgrub Family Foundation, The Cole Family Foundation, FamGlas Foundation, Fabricland, and the Pepsico Foundation.

Program fee revenue provides a steady and reliable income source, contributing 35% of our annual budget, significantly solidifying our financial stability and reducing the strain on outside resources. The projected growth in program fee revenue highlights the increasing demand and value of our services.

Our inaugural home opened its doors on 11/11/24 and began welcoming residents, with families contributing through rent and support fees that together account for over half of the annual budget (57.47%). The remaining funding comes from generous donations and a supportive grant, which collectively make up 42.53% of the home’s total budget of $1,135,800. In addition, an endowment fund continues to grow, further strengthening the long-term sustainability and future expansion of the residence.

each participant’s unique aspirations and abilities are recognized and supported.

Team members strengthened their program evaluation skills, focusing on auditing program delivery to ensure consistency, quality, and meaningful outcomes. This investment in staff development enhances the overall participant experience and reinforces our commitment to continuous improvement and excellence in service.

Staying True to Our Mission as We Evolve

As ACE continues to grow and innovate, we remain steadfast in our commitment to fostering independence, creativity, and community engagement. Our focus on the person-directed approach, community partnerships, and educational collaborations ensures that every participant has the opportunity to thrive, reach their goals, and experience a fulfilling and meaningful life.

Vocational Services in Review

In a landmark year, DANI has taken significant strides forward in promoting inclusive employment, achieving remarkable milestones that highlight our steadfast commitment to enhancing the work environment for individuals with developmental disabilities.

DANI’s Full Vocational Continuum

At DANI, we believe in supporting every adult with developmental disabilities along with a personalized and evolving journey toward meaningful inclusion, and purpose. Contributing to your community is essential for well-being and a key part of adulthood; that’s why our model includes a full continuum of vocational services. It’s also one of the most powerful ways to build confidence, belonging and independence. From life skills to volunteering, from pre-employment training to employment mentorship, our programs span the entire range of needs and possibilities.

Meeting the Demand for Meaningful Employment

This year has been a period of significant growth for vocational services, marked by an expansion in job coaching, increased support hours, leading to job placements across various industries. Our commitment to individualized, long-term employment support has continued to make a meaningful impact on neurodivergent individuals seeking sustainable careers.

DANI dedicate a significant increase in coaching, allowing for more guidance, workplace adjustments, and real-time problem-solving, ensuring that both employees and employers receive ongoing assistance that leads to successful employment outcomes.

In 2024, we doubled the amount of participants that received job coaching as part of WorkWise, all of which secured employment. Each participant received a customized plan, and we have been able to enhance their workplace readiness and confidence in navigating their professional paths.

This increase reflects the growing demand for tailored

employment support and the effectiveness of our approach in helping individuals secure meaningful, longterm opportunities.

In order to accommodate this growing need, we expanded our coaching team, welcoming three new job coaches. With a larger team, we are now able to provide more individualized support, ensuring that each participant receives the attention they need to transition smoothly into the workforce.

By developing strong relationships with employers and identifying roles that align with our clients’ strengths, we carve out positions that foster long-term success. DANI has also become a recognized collaborator of EmploymentWorks, a national project to enhance employment opportunities and retention for neurodivergent individuals. This status enables us to sustainably offer our individualized, hands-on, and ongoing employment support services, as well as being eligible to offer reimbursements to employers who partner with us.

Real Work, Real Skills, Real Impact

In addition to WorkWise, we empower neurodivergent adults through meaningful volunteer placements in the non-profit sector. These opportunities serve as valuable training grounds, allowing them to develop vocational skills and engage with the community while actively working toward their Goal Action Plans (GAPs). As they achieve their goals, we collaborate with our partners to introduce new tasks and challenges, ensuring continuous growth and skill development.

We also offer paid employment outside of WorkWise, supported by our staff, who work closely with employers to provide on-the-job guidance and problem-solve any

barriers. These opportunities include partners in the business community, the service sector, and our own social enterprises.

In 2024, our client’s were employed in a wide variety of industries, including supermarkets, pharmacies, warehousing, manufacturing, and hospitality, further broadening the range of opportunities available.

Our vocational service network continues to expand, and has been instrumental in creating new opportunities and ensuring that more businesses and organizations recognize the value of an inclusive workforce.

“Jesse has grown in so many important and essential ways since being involved with DANI. Through his numerous volunteer placements, he has learned valuable skills that translate into his everyday life. Jesse experiences and understands

what it means to give back and to assist others. His employment has allowed him to learn essential work skills, time management, and to be a part of a team. DANI is an exemplary example of how people like him can grow, flourish, and reach their potential, all while being in a supported and encouraging environment.”

Social Enterprises / DANI Businesses in Review

The embodiment of our core value of “a hand up, not a handout,” these ventures generate income while providing employment and skill-building opportunities for neurodiverse individuals. Our commitment to expansion enhances selfsufficiency, financial resilience, and long-term sustainability.

Advancing Mission Through Business Excellence

We have strategically integrated our catering, gift store, and new business acquisitions as scalable revenuegenerating units within DANI’s broader operational framework, aligning them with our overall growth strategy. This approach also included a thorough revamp of websites, marketing assets, and sales strategies to enhance brand visibility and increase market penetration.

DANI’s dedication to cultivating leadership extends across all facets of the organization, including its social enterprises, where seasoned business professionals bring industry expertise to our mission. These managers, each with extensive backgrounds in business operations, oversee five distinct social ventures, ensuring that revenue generated is reinvested into DANI’s programs, reinforcing financial stability and community impact.

Additionally, DANI’s commitment to social enterprise excellence was formally recognized as three of its businesses were certified and listed in the Buy Social Canada directory, further expanding our reach and validating our efforts in inclusive economic development.

Catering and Event Space

DANI’s Catering and Event Centre continued to thrive, hosting life-cycle events almost every week. As a fully kosher facility, we specialize in corporate functions, private celebrations, and community gatherings, ensuring exceptional service and high-quality cuisine.

Summer Patio Café

The Summer Patio Café continues to thrive as both a community hub and an inclusive employment setting. Throughout the year, we introduced new menu items,

hosted themed community events, and optimized service operations to enhance the guest experience. Increased foot traffic and repeat customers have solidified the café’s role as a favorite local destination. From May until September, the Patio Café served over 2,100 customers and nearly 10,000 plates of food.

Gift Store

With the hiring of a dedicated Gift Store Manager, 2024 saw a major transformation in retail strategy. Inventory management was streamlined, marketing campaigns enhanced visibility, and a new online store launched. We also expanded into retail partnerships, securing shelf space at Olive Branch, a prominent local kosher grocery store. These efforts led to a significant increase in both in-store and online sales as well as higher profit margins. DANI Catering and the Gift Store joined forces, integrating freshly baked goods into the store’s offerings. This synergistic partnership offers beautifully packaged gifts alongside gourmet treats, expanding the product range while increasing brand awareness and sales.

With the abilitiy to operate year-round, DANI Gifts now caters to every gifting occasion. Featuring original art pieces created by our participants, the store now showcases handcrafted, one-of-a-kind items that celebrate creativity and inclusivity.

Kosher Food Warehouse (KFW)

At the end of 2024, DANI acquired a well-known Kosher bulk food business. This represents a new chapter in our social enterprise portfolio. Although still in its early stages, we are refining operational efficiencies, expanding product lines, and enhancing customer engagement strategies to align the business with our values and long-term vision.
