HIGHLIGHTS 2015-2016 • DSI participated as an active member of the Association of Cultural Industries of Saskatchewan (ACIS) advocating for recognition of dance as part of live performing arts and greater recognition of emerging and professional dance as being viable in Saskatchewan. • DSI reassessed its committee structure to enable a focus on education and outreach initiatives, expand performance opportunities and to better develop programming that is responsive to the needs of its members and stakeholders. • DSI partnered with Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet to provide a pre-show discussion and tickets for those who attended Residential Schools as part of the touring production of ‘Going Home Star’ • DSI provided in excess of 1000 free or subsidized hours for studio space at the DSI Centre to emerging and professional dance companies for the creation of new work in 2015 – 2016. • DSI celebrated ‘International Dance Day’ with a day of workshops at the DSI Centre with over 150 in attendance for an evening performance that celebrated the diversity of dance. • DSI staff undertook the completion of phase 2 of multiphase project to archive the work of Free Flow Dance Theatre Company with the support of a grant from The Saskatchewan Association for Archives and Archivists. • DSI participated in the celebration of National Dance Week, an initiative of the Canadian Dance Assembly with programs supporting each of the themes identified with over 800 participants throughout the week. • DSI awarded 9 Youth Ambassador Awards at Festivals and Competitions throughout Saskatchewan. • DSI provided additional improvements to its facility to enable transformation of the Studio One space as a performance space with seating to accommodate 125 people. • DSI hired staff to undertake a comprehensive membership assessment in order to obtain feedback on programs and services and to identify member views on programs, diversity initiatives, professional development opportunities and gaps in services available. • DSI hired a Program Coordinator to assist with the creation of expanded programming during National Dance Week and to support partner programs with Canada’s National Ballet School and the PotashCorp Children’s Festival.
