About The Danbro Group
Danbro Umbrella are a key part of the award-winning Danbro Group. Founded in Lancashire in 1999 by Helen & Damian Broughton, Danbro began life with just a handful of local clients. A quarter of a century on and the Danbro Group now employ hundreds of people, providing specialist accounting, financial, payroll and, of course, umbrella employment solutions to thousands of people across the UK. Both Helen, our CEO, and Damian, our Executive Chairman, have since gone on to earn MBEs for their service to the industry and the community.
The Danbro Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation, comprising employees from across the Danbro Group. The Foundation focuses on bettering the lives of those less fortunate within our local and wider community. Since 2010, we’ve underwritten all the UK administration costs for international charity, Operation Orphan and we also work alongside local charities such as Street Angels and Elliot’s Place
Resting on the banks of the River Ribble Estuary, and overlooking the iconic Lytham Green, Jubilee House has been our home since 2015. Having purchased the premises from the local council three years earlier, we lovingly converted the 1960s Land Registry Building into a stunning, modern, multipurpose facility. Home to dozens of other businesses, Jubilee House has fast become a Lytham landmark. Playing host to an array of events throughout the year, our unique, penthouse suite - ‘The Green Room’ - boasts enviable views of the Estuary, the windmill and, every summer, the acclaimed Lytham Festival.

Your Questions, Answered
What will my take-home pay be?
Danbro Umbrella offers a free online calculator to estimate your take-home pay. It considers your contracted rate, pension contributions, tax commitments, payment cycle, and weekly work hours. This popular tool provides a clear outline of your potential earnings as an umbrella company contractor or employee. Click the calculator on the right to try our take home pay calculator.
What is a Preferred Supplier List?
A Preferred Supplier List (PSL) is a collection of preferred companies, agencies, and/or suppliers that an organisation recommends its clients to work with. In the context of umbrella companies, recruitment agencies will have PSLs containing the umbrella company providers they would recommend to clients. Unlike approved supplier lists, which feature the umbrella companies that are merely recognised or ‘approved’ by the agency, a PSL is based on factors like positive working relationships, shared values, or prior agreements. It’s always important to check an umbrella company’s presence on a PSL and verify its accreditations for quality assurance.
What paperwork will I need to join Danbro Umbrella?
To join Danbro Umbrella, you need to provide your name, address, bank details, proof of identity, and proof of your right to work in the UK. For tax purposes, a copy of your P45 form from your previous employer may also be required.
I have been contracting for 7 years now, and choosing the right umbrella company is crucial. Danbro are the best! They have a personal touch and DO follow up on their promises. Extremely happy!
Can I claim expenses?
As a contractor you may incur expenses that your agency has agreed to reimburse. These expenses are often be referred to as billable or chargeable expenses. Chargeable Expenses can be claimed through us and paid out within your contracted rate subject to Tax and NI, providing we have confirmation that your agency is reimbursing you for the expenses, there’s an online claim on our portal with supporting VAT receipts. To receive tax relief on any expenses you may be able to claim them through HMRC via a P87 or self-assessment. You must, however, retain all receipts as evidence of these expenses.

I cannot praise Danbro and their services enough. Our dedicated account manager has always provided beyond exceptional services to me and my contractors who use their Umbrella & Limited Accountancy services.
From pay queries to initial set ups, Danbro are quick and efficient, getting things done in a timely manner.
You cannot go wrong using these guys. We thank you for everything you do for us.”
Will I get holiday pay?
As an umbrella company contractor, you’re entitled to 28 days of annual leave per year, including bank holidays, with potential adjustments based on client requirements. Your holiday pay will be clearly stated within your employment contract.
Danbro Umbrella includes holiday pay in each payment, unless you opt for accrual, in which case it will be set aside until leave is taken or when you leave the company. The exact amount of holiday pay you receive will be clearly displayed on your payslip.
How much annual leave am I entitled to?
As an umbrella contractor, your statutory entitlement to annual leave is at least 28 days, including bank holidays. This equates to about 5.6 working weeks of leave from a 52-week year – or 12.07% of your total working hours – and leaves you with a total working year of 46.4 weeks.
In simple terms, for every hour you work, you’ll accrue an extra 7 minutes of holiday entitlement.
How does The Danbro Group SIPP work?
The Danbro Group SIPP scheme is a tax-efficient, flexible retirement pension plan with low charges and diverse investment options – often outperforming other private pensions. It includes a tax-free lump sum and retirement income.
ALL Danbro Umbrella employees are auto-enrolled from the first day of your employment with us, subject to:
• Being aged between 22 and the current State Pension age AND
• Earning at least £192 per week / £10,000 annually
What gives the best umbrella companies their reputations?
Choosing the best umbrella company from what has become a competitive – and somewhat convoluted – marketplace isn’t easy.
The best umbrella companies are well-established with a good reputation, positive reviews, and accreditations from respected regulators like the FCSA.
Be mindful that some agencies receive commission for endorsing certain umbrella companies on their PSLs, reducing the impartiality and authenticity of their recommendations. Make sure to consult sources you trust before making a decision.
Ultimately, though, there aren’t many industries where you’re able to select your own employer. It’s a unique – and exciting – position to be in.
Excellent customer service, all the agents are helpful.
Very patient, always happy to answer questions, give advice and assist to resolve any queries.
Danbro is simply the best umbrella company I have ever used.
Taffie
What happens when my assignment finishes?
You’ll be in employment both during and after your assignment. That continuity will help you when applying for a loan or mortgage, for instance. It also provides the flexibility of contracting and the stability of full-time employment.
You’ll also retain full access to the Danbro Group’s suite of services, should you so choose to benefit from them. From Independent Financial Advice to Specialist Mortgage Brokerage, we’re here for you with whatever you need.
Danbro Umbrella also work with a national network of recruitment agencies, covering all sectors. And if you don’t get paid for five weeks, we’ll get in touch to see how we can help you.

“Great, professional service. The team are prompt and helpful, and the onboarding was very smooth.”
How do umbrella company pension contributions work?
As an umbrella company contractor, you are eligible for a workplace pension providing certain criteria are met.
Your employer’s contributions to your workplace pension will be deducted from your contracted rate, which is the total amount that the umbrella company receives from your end client or agency for the services you’ve provided.
Other employer’s expenses deducted at this stage include:
• Employer’s National Insurance contributions (NICs)
• The Apprenticeship Levy payment
• Your umbrella company’s margin
If enrolment is compulsory, you must enrol. And, since 2018, it’s been a legal requirement for all UK employers – including umbrella companies – to offer automatic enrolment onto a workplace pension scheme. However, enrolment is not automatic if your earnings amount to less than £10,000 per annum. Once enrolled, though, you can opt-out or cease active membership. Your umbrella company must let you leave the workplace pension scheme you’re enrolled in if you request to do so and refund you any money you’ve paid in if you opt-out within the first month.
