WHAT IS VIKINGFEST? Now in its second year, VikingFest is a four-day community event held on Bishop Verot’s sprawling Fort Myers campus. With an eclectic lineup of activities ranging from food to entertainment, rides to classic cars, the event attracts a diverse crowd from families to snow birds. Last year, VikingFest attracted more than 5,000 people during its inaugural debut. In 2013, the event will expand from a three day event to four days. PROFESSIONAL AND BACKYARD BBQ The Florida BBQ Association returns in 2013 with over 50 professional BBQ’ers from the FBA, including Dana Hillis who is ranked #1 in the entire nation. VikingFest patrons have the opportunity to sample the savory BBQ from select vendors with VikingBucks. The Professional BBQ round ends on Saturday with over $12,000 in cash awarded in various categories. On Sunday, the Backyard BBQ winds down the weekend with local non-pro teams competing for the Principal’s Cup. VikingFest spectators have the opportunity to purchase BBQ items from local vendors while local celebrities judge the competition. CARNIVAL RIDES This year, VikingFest will add carnival rides from Detty’s Funtastic Midway. Carnival goers have the option of purchasing a 4-day all you can ride bracelet for $55. With over 20 rides for all ages, this new feature will be a major draw for the entire family and will be sure to increase our overall attendance for the week. CLASSIC CAR SHOW With the backing of our in-kind sponsors, Harley Davidson and Florida Hot Rods & Hogs, our classic car show is able to bring in a participation base not typically associated with the school, further increasing interest in our event. The event features a competition judged by the Florida Hot Rods & Hogs Association. This year, the Classic Car Show will run on Sunday during the Backyard BBQ. ARTS & CRAFTS MARKETPLACE This will mark our first year for the Art & Craft Marketplace. Set in the shaded courtyard at the center of our academic courtyard. Arts & Crafts Fairs have a loyal following and will allow us to continue to expand our reach in diversifying our clientèle for VikingFest while increasing the total number of attendees this year. CENTER STAGE Our Center stage will be back in 2013 featuring great bands, entertainment from local dance troops and feeder schools, and will host our BBQ awards ceremonies on both Saturday and Sunday.
