Bill and Judy Adams saw a need for beautiful rugs at an affordable price. This vision began in their garage in 1979 and has endured through 4 generations up to this day. We are committed to offering expertly-crafted, fashion-forward rugs that are affordable and of great value.

From the very start Dalyn has deliberately worked, not to be the largest, but to be the best rug company in the industry. With this in mind, our foundation is based on the integrity of our employees, a commitment to service, and the expectation of quality and success.

THE URBAN RUG CRAFTSMEN STORY

At Urban Rug Craftsmen, we are honoring the legacy of Catherine Evans Whitener by continuing the manufacturing of chenille rugs, bringing awareness to the history and heritage of our hometown of Dalton, Georgia and why it is known as the “Carpet Capital of the World”.

DALTON, GA

1847

Long before Dalton, Georgia was known as the "Carpet Capital of the World" it was the "Bedspread Capital of the World" thanks to the legacy of Mrs. Catherine Evans Whitener.

1930

“Spreadlines” began as women in Dalton sold hand-tufted chenille spreads and bath mats to tourists passing through town on US Highway 41, also known as Peacock Alley based on the most popular peacock design.

1950-1970

In the 50’s the production of broadloom carpet surpassed bedspreads & other tufted products to became a staple of American households. Dalton was known as the "Carpet Capital of the World" by the early 1960’s.

1895-1920s

In 1895, Catherine Evans Whitener hand made her first chenille bedspread as a wedding gift for her brother. Whitener was asked to make another at the request of Mrs. John Lange, who purchased the bedspread for $2.50.

Catherine later taught nearby women her craft to meet the expanding demand for chenille bedspreads. This started the “cottage” industry in Dalton.

1930-1950

Bedspread production was brought into factories, some of which are still operating today. The industrialization of the tufting process raised productivity creating a booming textile industry which lead to Dalton becoming known as the "Bedspread Capital of the World".

1979

In 1979, Bill & Judy Adams saw a need for beautiful rugs at an affordable price and started Dalyn Rug Company. Today, we are still committed to offering expertly-crafted, design-forward rugs that are affordable and of great value.

2022

Urban Rug Craftsmen is introduced by Dalyn Rug Company to revive the manufacturing of chenille rugs, thus honoring the history and heritage of our community.
