Eagan man sentenced in child porn case An Eagan man was sentenced to 38 years in prison after pleading guilty in January to federal child pornography charges Monday in U.S. District Court in St. Paul. Anton Alexander Martynenko, 33, was the largest producer of child pornography ever prosecuted in Minnesota, U.S. Attorney Anthony Luger said. “We hope the victims in this case take some solace in the sentence imposed today. I urge parents and teachers to help Minnesota youth protect themselves from online predators. According to a guilty plea and documents filed in court, Martynenko used social media to obtain homemade child pornography from unsuspecting boys, many of them teenagers, from at least 2011 to 2015. The defendant created and used various false aliases, including “Marie Anna, “Courtney Jansgen, and “Marie94mn, on social media outlets for the purpose of obtaining nude and sexually explicit images and videos of minor males. Martynenko used decoy accounts to advertise child pornography over the internet. Posing as a woman, he created different cover stories, including that he had recently moved to Minnesota and was trying to make new friends, that he worked for a modeling agency, or that he was a college student at the University of Minnesota. He would engage in sexual conversations with victims and eventually ask for nude images and/or video of the minor male victims. During one incident in 2012, a victim grew suspicious after Martynenko, who was posing as a women, demanded more photos, and threatened to distribute the

photos if he did not send more. About one year later, the victim learned that his pictures were being distributed via social media. “This case was the result of a collaboration between local, federal and state partners, Rosemount Police Chief Mitchell Scott said. “While there are no winners here, the lengthy prison sentence for Anton Martynenko provides some measure of justice for the many people he victimized over the years. He was convicted of production of child pornography, distribution of child pornography and advertising child pornography. This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. Led by U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims. For more information about Project Safe Childhood, visit www.projectsafechildhood.gov. If you know of any child who may have been a victim of exploitation, call the National Center for Missing or Exploited Children at 1-800-843-5678 or visit NCMEC’s website at www.missingkids.com. This case is the result of an investigation conducted by the FBI, Minneapolis Police Department, Rosemount Police Department, Eagan Police Department, Chaska Police Department and Dakota County Electronic Crimes Task Force.

Farmington woman found guilty in daughter’s death A Farmington woman was found guilty of second-degree murder and child endangerment Monday after the death of her child in 2015. The Ramsey County trial showedLia Pearson, 38, knowingly left her 17-month-old daughter in the care of her boyfriend Leb Mike Meak, 35, of Maplewood, even after others told her that Meak

was hitting her child and after she saw the injuries. Her daughter Genesis Xiong suffered a broken rib, lacerated liver and several other injuries while in the care of Meak, who pleaded guilty to killing the toddler in September 2015 and is currently serving a 25-year prison sentence. A review of cellphone records show Pearson was

alerted to injuries via text messages from another caregiver, who expressed concerns about bruises and bite marks. According to the criminal complaint, another child said they told Pearson several times that her daughter was being abused before she died. Pearson will be sentenced Jan. 26.

Energy to install the panels. It will save the district approximately $75,000 in energy savings during the first year of the deal. The district is not paying anything up front for the project. When the district initially discussed the

project, the plan was to bank the savings in case the district wants to purchase the solar panels in the future.

Houska’s understanding is all of the panels will be installed by the end of April. The district approved an agreement with Sundial Solar and investor Kenyon
