Bob Jones, a local POW-MIA activist who was instrumental in starting the vigil, said it was the largest turnout ever for the vigil, so much so that the northbound lane of Rte. 3 was closed near the park in order to allow motorcycle parking for some of the 700 or more who showed up for the event. Governor John Lynch was on hand and spoke at the ceremony but left it up to Jones to announce that the bridge on Rte. 3 south of the town is now officially designated as the POW/ MIA Vigil-Freedom Ride Bridge.
