MUMBAI : The Union Minister for Textiles, Commerce and Industry, and Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Shri Piyush Goyal attended the Export Awards function organized by The Synthetic & Rayon Textiles Export Promotion Council(SRTEPC) inMumbairecently.

Addressing the industry, the Commerce and Industry and Textiles Minister said that “we have to study each Free Trade Agreement and understand requirements of other countries better. “Export Promotion Councils should open offices in other countries, such as in locations like Dubai. We have to thinkout-of-the-box.”

The Minister told the industry that we need to give special attention toquality.“The time has come for our quality to be the best in the world. This is the demand of consumers in India and across the world as well. The time for coming out with two different types of quality – domestic quality and export quality – is over. 2,000 products will come under Quality Control soon. We need to stop using low-quality products. We need to increaseourscale,focusonquality.”

The Minister observed that it is perhaps for the first time that the Prime Minister himself met with Export Promotion Councils and discussed the way forward including export targets. “Following last year’s record exports, this year, based on figures available till now, we are confident of crossing 750 billion dollars ofexports.” The Minister said that itisamatter ofpride forusthatdespiteglobalheadwinds, wewouldbereaching this target.

The Minister said that unlike games like cricket, the state of business and industry is now such that the paradigm is one of win-win. “The Trade Agreement between India and Australia is a unity agreement, the two economies are very complementary. While Australia imports most manufactured goods, we get many of our raw materials like critical minerals from Australia. There is an investment opportunity for processing lithium and other rare earths and minerals, since themarketforthemisgrowing.”

MUMBAI - Honourable PM of Australia, Mr. Anthony Albanese said that Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA) signed between India and Australia is a transformative agreement which will unlock the next level of potential in trade and investment. He was addressing theIndia-AustraliaCEOforumheldinMumbai recently.

The Honourable Prime Minister expressed sincere appreciation for the large turnout of Australian investors that came to India as well for the key Indian business houses that participated. He remarked that this is one of the most serious and high-profile delegations to visit India from Australian shores. He was very optimistic about the complementarities between both the nations and concluded by saying that this juncture is a turning point in accelerating economic co-operation and mutual benefits intherelationship betweenAustraliaandIndia.

Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and Textiles, Shri Piyush Goyal also participated in the CEO Forum along with Senator the Hon. Don Farrell, Hon’ble Minister for Trade and Tourism, Government of Australia. Shri Goyal noted that the current goal of doubling the bilateral trade must be reset by the industries and CEOs present there as there was great potential to increase trade manifold between the two nations. He reiterated the growth potential of the bilateral trade and investments betweenIndiaandAustralia.

The Forum was organized by Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry along with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in order to leverage the ever-growing trade and investment between the two countries. The forum was co-chaired by Dr. Anish Shah, MD & CEO, Mahindra Group and Ms. Shemara Wikramnayake,MD&CEO,MacquarieGroup.

A four-year extension MoU was also signed between Confederation of Indian Industry and Business Council of Australia in the presence of Hon Anthony Albanese MP. This partnership will go a long way in furthering the businessrelationship betweenthetwocountries.

In the fiscal year (2022), India is Australia's 9th largest trading partner. Major exports to Australia include petroleum products, textiles and apparels, engineering goods, leather, pearls, mechanical appliances, iron and steel and gems and jewellery. Major imports include edibles, dyeing extracts, chemicals, wool, minerals & preciousstones.

Indian Foreign exchange reserves grows by $1.5 bn

MUMBAI - After four consecutive weeks of decline, the Reserve Bank of India’s foreign exchange reserves rose by $1.5billionto$562.4billionintheweekendedMarch3.

TherisewaslargelyonaccountofanincreaseintheRBI’s foreign currency assets, which climbed $1.2 billion to $497.1billioninthelastweek,latestcentralbankdatashowed.

Reserves worth $576.8 billion as on January 27, 2023, cover 9.4 months of projected imports for the current financial year,saidthecentralbank’sFebruaryBulletin. m.v.

From June to October of 2022, the RBI was a net seller of US dollars in the currency market as the central bank sought to rein in excessive volatility in the rupee’s exchange rate amid the Ukraine war and aggressive rate hikes by the Federal Reserve.
