hi Delta Theta’s suspension will end Aug. 1 after being investigated in 2016 for different types of misconduct, including underage drinking. “The actions the group took weren’t representative of the values of Phi Delta Theta,” said Greg Rush, Phi Delta Theta expansion consultant. “Our response was immediately suspending the operations of the chapter while this investigation was taking place.” Rush said suspending the fraterni-

ty’s chapter at WSU in 2016 meant the group could no longer operate on campus or accept new members. “Multiple instances of misconduct, including minors drinking alcohol and students potentially having been drugged, have been cited by the Interfraternity Council for Phi Delta Theta’s suspension,” according to a Daily Evergreen article. WSU’s Office of Student Conduct investigated two separate allegations, according to the article. In the first allegation, the chapter allegedly hosted an event where alcohol was provided to and consumed by minors. It also includes a report alleging two students may have been drugged.

The second allegation reports new members consuming alcohol during the fraternity’s new member activity, according to the article. Two of the new members, who were both minors, allegedly engaged in a contest where they “were challenged to consume as much hard alcohol as possible.” One of the new members was hospitalized due to life-threatening blood alcohol levels, according to the article. In 2015, WSU’s Office of Civil Rights Compliance and Investigation, formerly known as the Office for Equal Opportunity, concluded that a Phi Delta Theta member violated the university’s anti-discrimination policy.

I don’t think I need to waste time explaining the tremendous impact COVID-19 has had on so many aspects of our lives – education, I think, having received some of the largest hits. Not only has education accessibility for students across the world changed completely, suddenly paying for it looks a lot harder, too. WSU is proposing the maximum possible tuition increase they can put in place: a 2.5 percent increase to tuition for all students across all campuses to take effect the upcoming 2020-2021 academic year. This excludes some professional students, as their increases depend on their program. Based on the cost of tuition for WSU Pullman’s 2019-2020 school year, this works out to be about an additional $262 per student, assuming they are Washington residents. Albums to get you into jazz

Listen to one of the American genres with some quintessential albums By Adam Hureau Evergreen columnist

he said he took everything he knew and put it into making Yia Yia Nikki’s the best it can be. He said it has helped him see everything from a bigger picture and gives him a perspective of what his restaurant needs to better for the communities it serves. “The first place I bought used to be empty, and it was empty for five years, so I bought it,” Desouky said. “I gave the keys to my wife and kids and when I retire, I’ll have something to play with.”

It is said that jazz is the United States’ only original art form. It is a music born from struggle and full of complexity, nuance and expression. However, it can be hard to start listening, as there are thousands of artists and albums out there and many are not necessarily super accessible. So, for your convenience, here are 10 of, in my opinion, the best jazz albums ever recorded for those unfamiliar with the genre. They are a great jumping-off point for anyone who wants to start listening to America’s music. You can find all of these albums on Spotify or any streaming service you might use. Miles Davis – “Kind of Blue” This might be the quintessential jazz album. Every track on this record is great, from the simplicity of “So What” to the beautiful ballad “Blue in Green.” Miles is arguably at his best here, backed up by some of the finest musicians of the era. This one’s definitely

Yia Yia Nikki's will occupy Banner Bank, provide drive-thru option By Zach Goff Evergreen reporter

A restaurant that specializes in Greek and Mediterranean cuisine may open its doors in August. Yia Yia Nikki’s will be located at 1300 S. Grand Ave. The restaurant will also have a drive-thru, owner Monir Desouky said. This will be the third loca-

tion of the franchise as the original restaurant opened about 10 years ago in Oregon. Desouky said he kept the name from the previous owner. Yia Yia means grandma in Greek. He said just like some grandmas do, everything on the menu is made from scratch. “You might gain a couple dollars here and there, but if you take shortcuts, it’ll come back and bite you in the butt eventually,” Desouky said. “Everything we do is the hard way, but that’s what it takes to have

customer satisfaction. You do it right, and people will come back for the food.” Desouky said he is hoping to help build excitement for the restaurant with a temporary food truck while he waits to receive some permits from the state. “We’ll sell my product and use my product until my doors are officially open, and then it’ll be gone,” he said. Desouky worked as a food service director and consulted for higher education for over 40 years. When Desouky retired,
