Lobstermen finding more odd colors PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — When a 100-pound shipment of lobsters arrived at Bill Sarro’s seafood shop and restaurant last month, it contained a surprise — six orange crustaceans that have been said to be a 1-in-10-million oddity.

Reports of odd-colored lobsters used to be rare in the lobster fishing grounds of New England and Atlantic Canada. Normal lobsters are a mottled greenishbrown. But in recent years, accounts of bright blue, or-

ange, yellow, calico, white and even split lobsters — one color on one side, another on the other — have jumped. It’s now common to hear several stories of a lobsterman bringing one of the quirky crustaceans to shore.

New unit to fight gang of a similar multi-agency crime in Tennessee gang crime unit in that MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A newly-formed unit made up of federal, state and local law enforcement agencies is taking on the challenge of eradicating street gang crime in Memphis and West Tennessee, officials said Monday. The Multi-Agency Gang Unit will not only respond to crimes involving street gangs on a daily basis, but also conduct longterm investigations of gang leaders and form a partnership between state and federal prosecutors who will focus on gang crime cases, Shelby County District Attorney Amy Weirich said at a news conference Monday. Like other U.S., cities, Memphis has its share of organized gangs who deal drugs, rob businesses and commit acts of violence. Gang activity is now stretching into rural parts of West Tennessee, posing a problem for police forces in small towns across the region. The unit consists of officers and agents from the FBI, the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and the Memphis Police Department. The Associated Press first reported the creation of the new gang unit in an interview with U.S. Attorney Edward Stanton in January. “The focus of this new multi-agency gang unit — MGU for short — will be eradication of any and all criminal gang activity, which is plaguing not only Shelby County, but as we saw in weeks past, it’s creeping into the West Tennessee area, into the rural jurisdictions,” said Weirich, who is running for re-election. Memphis police have had an anti-gang unit before, but the FBI, ATF and the U.S. Attorney’s office were not a formal part of the unit. Weirich said the unit will fight street gangs from “river to river,” meaning it will cover the territory from the Mississippi River east to the Tennessee River. Officials have been putting together the unit for about a year. Weirich said law enforcement personnel went to Fresno, Calif., to study the successes

city. In addition to fighting crime, the unit will also focus on preventing children and youths from joining street gangs, which often recruit young people from the neighborhoods in which they operate. Members of the unit will provide education and training for schools, community groups and local businesses on gangrelated issues.

US donates millions more to battle AIDS WASHINGTON — Science now has the tools to slash the spread of HIV even without a vaccine — and the U.S. is donating an extra $150 million to help poor countries put them in place, the Obama administration told the world’s largest AIDS conference Monday. “We want to get to the end of AIDS,” declared the top U.S. HIV researcher, Dr. Anthony Fauci of the National Institutes of Health. How long it takes depends on how quickly the world can adopt those tools, he said — including getting more of the millions of untreated people onto life-saving drugs that come with the bonus of keeping them from infecting others. “No promises, no dates, but we know it can happen,” Fauci told the International AIDS Conference. Some 34.2 million people worldwide are living with HIV, and 2.5 million were infected last year. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said the goal is an AIDS-free generation. That would mean no babies would be born infected, young people would have a much lower risk than today of becoming infected and people who already have HIV would receive life-saving drugs so they wouldn’t develop AIDS or spread the virus. “I am here today to make it absolutely clear the U.S. is committed and will remain committed to achieving an AIDSfree generation,” Clinton told the more than 20,000 scientists, people living with HIV and

We encourage people to read the Bible, because - “Thy Word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against Thee.” “I have chosen the way of truth; I have committed myself unto Thy testimonies; I will run the way of Thy Commandments; Teach me, O Lord, the way of Thy statutes; and I will keep it unto the end.” “I thought on my ways, and turned my feet unto Thy testimonies.” “O how I love Thy law: It is my meditation all the day.” “For ever, O Lord, Thy Word is settled in heaven.” “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” “Therefore I esteem all Thy precepts concerning all things to be right.” “The entrance of Thy Word giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.” “O Lord: give one understanding according unto Thy Word.” “Deliver me according to Thy Word” “For all Thy commandments are righteousness.” “I have chosen Thy precepts.” “Thy law is my delight.” “I have gone astray like a sheep: seek Thy servant; for I do not forget Thy commandments.” The above statements are found in Psalms 119. I encourage you to read that Psalm. When we read this Psalm, we learn what the word of God can do in our life when we understand and obey. Apart from obedience, the word of God will have no effect in our life. The Lord opened the heart of Lydia to heed the things spoken by Paul - Acts 16:14. Lydia’s heart would have been considered closed had she refused to hear and obey. The statement that the Lord opened her heart implies that previously her heart was in some way closed. It was not closed by the hardness of a sinful life, or by inherited depravity, for such a supposition is forbidden by the steadfastness with which, she had previously clung to the worship of God. Many of the Jews had a closed heart. They refused to believe that fact that Jesus was coming to establish a spiritual kingdom - the church. It continues to be a “stumbling block” to many people. The Lord “opened her heart” means that He removed the mistaken concepts which would have prevented her from obeying Christ. “They that gladly received His word were baptized.” Acts 2:41. “He that believeth and is baptized, shall be saved.” Mark 16:16. That is God’s word.

policymakers assembled for the conference. But it will require smart targeting of prevention tools where they can have the greatest effect — including to highrisk populations that are particularly hard to reach because of stigma. “If we want to save more lives, we need to go where the virus is,” she said. First, Clinton said it’s possible to virtually eliminate the transmission of HIV from infected pregnant women to their babies by 2015, by getting the mothers onto anti-AIDS drugs. HIVinfected births are rare in the United States and are dropping steadily worldwide, although some 330,000 children became infected last year. Clinton said the U.S. has invested more than $1 billion toward that goal in recent years and is providing an extra $80 million to help poor countries finish the job. Much of the AIDS conference is focused on how to get treatment to all people with HIV, because good treatment can cut by 96 percent their chances of spreading the virus to sexual partners. Fauci pointed to South Africa, where healthy people who live in a region that has increased medication now have a 38 percent lower risk of infection compared with neighbors in an area where HIV treatment is less common. Drugs aren’t the only effective protection. Fauci said male circumcision is “stunningly successful,” too, at protecting men from becoming infected by a heterosexual partner. Clinton said the U.S. will provide $40 million to help South Africa reach its goal of providing voluntary circumcision to half a million boys and men this year. A tougher issue is how best to reach particularly high-risk populations: gay and bisexual men, sex workers and injecting drug users. In many countries, stigma and laws that make their activities illegal drive those populations away from AIDS programs that could teach them how to reduce their risk of infection, Clinton said. “If we’re going to beat AIDS, we can’t afford to avoid sensitive conversations, and we can’t afford not to reach the people who are at the highest risk,” she said.

Campaign resumes after shooting SAN FRANCISCO — The acrimonious presidential campaign eases back into action Monday after a weekend pause for the nation to absorb the shock of a horrific mass shooting at a Colorado movie theater. The massacre stalled a race for the White House that has become increasingly heated in recent weeks. President Barack Obama, Republican rival Mitt Romney and their advisers are now weighing how soon after the shootings to resume their attacks or whether to temper the tenor of the campaign. “There’s not a playbook for this,” said Jen Psaki, Obama’s campaign spokeswoman. “Just like everybody, we’re taking this day by day.” Both campaigns were keeping their largely negative television advertisements off the air in Colorado, a key battleground state in the November election. The Obama campaign said it would not advertise in Colorado for the rest of the week; Romney campaign spokeswoman Andrea Saul said the Republican’s ads in the state would be down at least through Monday.
