As I write this piece I’m sitting in a covered outdoor space at the back of my stone bungalow on the island of Petit St. Vincent in the Grenadines. It’s raining. Not exactly the setting I would normally describe to readers looking for a warm weather getaway after a cold North American winter. But this rain is different. At home all I would be thinking about is running for cover from the rain; here I’m only half-heartedly fighting the urge to run into it.
