Back in 2008 a little girl named Kati participated in her first EYP session and since then she has fallen in love with it by trying out every position possible in the world of EYP sessions. However, organising (aka controlling and ruling people) is her favourite role. She calls herself “Nazi” in that sense. Speaking of Nazis, I couldn’t resist asking about the legendary “Hitler expression” of her, that has been an object of numerous gossips. During Estonian RS head-organized by Kati someone dared to set the fire alarm off as a prank. Having got pretty mad, Kati shouted “Nein, nein, nein, nein” loudly and passionately, imitating Hitler. The idea behind that is a Youtube video, where the former German leader was doing exactly the same. As it turned out, there is one more Youtube video character that Kati models herself on, as she claims to be a big fan of “the Baby Monkey”. Luckily I’ve had a once in a lifetime opportunity to watch her perform live. What a great singing talent the world is missing.

Kati’s alcohol preferences were disclosed after I asked what she would say “yes” to, without any hesitation. Not even a second had passed before her passion for wine was revealed. The wine choice depends on the situation, season, food and company. If she is having a cosy dinner with friends, bringing a bottle of wine is the right choice. Or two bottles. Usually two. Kati is convinced that wine is perfect because it is appropriate in every situation. Period. Furthermore, Kati shared her secret for a successful EYP career. She believes that every session is unique and different in its own way. “The further you go, the more you get into it” which means applying for the sessions you think will challenge your notion of what you can achieve. Lastly, according to our non-stereotypical wonderful Estonian president, Latvians DO have 6 toes.

Interview Good cop, Bad cop While

we’re playing big fat pony, solving the human knot, debating our topic in our

committees and later in

General Assembly, we often forget that the opportunity to

do all this is provided by a secret group of people we see a lot less then out chairs and journos.

I had the rare opportunity to sit down with the leaders of this group in KZRS, Mārtiņš Žilinskis and Toms Vilnis.

In your relationship as head organisers who is Batman and who is Robin?

izers have to operate with the session as a whole.

Toms: We don’t really have a Bat-

What is it that made you write the project and make the session?

man and a Robin. We rather see ourselves as the good cop and the bad cop. Mārtiņš is the good cop and I’m the bad one. Mārtiņš: Toms likes to say the rough things to people. T: And Mārtiņš does favours for them.

M: We got the offer, I asked if Toms wants to do it and he said ‘YOLO, let’s do it’. T: I was an organizer for two sessions and I felt competent enough to spontaneously agree to headorganize this session.

Is the organizer position the worthiest position in EYP?

What advice would you give to the first time delegates?

M:

M: Enjoy the session and try to

Yes, simply because without them you would not have anything. Without the organisers’ work there is no basis for the session. T: A journo and a chair can do the greatest job in the world, but if the session is happening in a forest and there’s no food, it will never be a good session. If the chairs work with Teambuilding and Committee Work and the journalists deal with the media aspect then the organ-

get as much out of it as possible. Don’t be afraid to continue, there’s a whole lot of things you can do in EYP. The possibilities are endless. Go for it! T: I would encourage them to try hard and do their best. Show your best sides because the first impression is the most important one. Strive to be a delegate in an international session or become an official.

What keeps you going

through the sleepless nights?

M: The constant worry

of whether everything is fine and taken care of. It’s hard for me to sleep if everything is not perfect. And energy drinks. T: Coffee and the dream to make this one of the best EYP regional sessions of EYP Latvia’s history. Which one of you would survive on a deserted island longer and why?

M: Probably Toms, he is more organized and serious. I’d go loony in the first two days. T: No, I bet I would only last a few hours, my body needs too much water.

Why did you accept so many Estonian officials?

M: It’s inevitable. Latvians and Estonians love each other. We welcome them with open arms. Is it true that Estonians really are slower than Latvians?

M: Most definitely.

Media Team You might have noticed having a kind of an outsider in the committee room, though on the same time, kind of a good friend of yours- the ‘’playmaker’’. Usually carrying a camera and catching the juiciest moments during these 3 days, the journalists are here for the delegates. They are writing about you, watching you, playing games with you. This article is about them, how they work and what does it take to be a journalist in an EYP session. Media team of KZRS’12, led by the editors Anna-Helena Saarso and Daniels Griņevičs, is a wonderful group of 11 enthusiastic individuals. Each endowed by a different style, signature and charisma. Here are some facts about each one of them: • Anna (editress) – Has been in 21 countries all over the world (even places like Sri Lanka and New Zealand) • Daniels (editor) – sleeps with eyes open when exhausted • Juris (Video editor) – Has slept on a tree three times • Ieva (Freelancer) – Is terrified of raisins, they look into her soul • Alyona (DROI) – Has a licence to ride a donkey • Māris (ECON) – Has al-

ways wanted to ride a donkey • Trine (AFET) – Has 40 sheep back in Estonia • Reinis (LIBE I) – Has jumped out of a balcony twice (not sober) • Laura (LIBE II) – Can seduce people to sleep • Annika (CULT I) – Had 50% body burns when she was a child • Alex (CULT II) – Is a big rap fan. Favourite artist – Jay-Z Creativity has been their asset throughout the whole journey of the session. That is the main trait a journalist must have. Writing an inspiring and appealing article requires special skills. Also, a scan from a critical eye is essential and this is where the editors’ contribution comes into the game in addition to layouting the papers. In the end, the newspapers you receive are the products of the Media Team. Either a topic, passion or committee article, journalists put great effort in creating each one of them. You are to judge whether this issue lives up to your expectations, but I state that we have spilt blood, sweat and made it with love for your enjoyment!

Future Go Further The structure of the European Youth Parliament is more diverse than you think it is. There are possibilities to develop skills which are desirable in today’s competitive world. Furthermore, the social network created in EYP might be essential for future. It all starts with being a delegate in a regional session. It is the smallest session, yet it is the first chance to make an impression in order to take another step. Every country has usually one national selection conference per year. These sessions are special because a selection for international sessions- the three annual highlights of EYP- takes place. Generally, the IS is the highest recognition for a delegate. There are around 250 people from Europe participating. Some of them are smartasses, some of them are party animals and some care about the EU’s sustainability. Nevertheless, I can promise you with certainty that you will spend the time of your

life there. Ask the officials and you will find the proof. After being a delegate, you can become a journo, a chair, an editor or an organiser. There are hundreds of sessions every year where you can participate as an official. Last year, in 2011, there were more than 365 days of EYP. So, if you feel like it, you could fill your whole year with EYP. One usually begins in the officials’ team with being a journo and then starts developing a further EYP career. The roles in the team differ from each other a lot. Also, they develop various skills. The greatest acknowledgement an EYP’er might get is to preside a session. For very committed EYP’ers it is common to finish your EYP career after presiding an international session. Though, there is no one single rule how EYP works. Be creative and challenge yourself!

Personal The Staying Power of the EYP Spirit When I was in your shoes and went to my first EYP session, I experienced a significant shift in the direction that my life was heading towards. My fear of embarrassment and failure in both social and academic environments was largely gone. The explosion of emotions and interactions that the brief, utopian-like two day session was, opened my eyes and made me wonder – why can’t people live like this all of the time? The fire that was ignited in that session was evident to all my friends and family in the first days after it, since I became remarkably more confident and harmonious. However, the fire slowly diminished in the environment of my daily life, as these sudden bursts of motivation have the tendency to do. I realized that our surroundings have an immense effect on our character and that I had to get back into EYP as soon and as much as possible.

Sadly, I was not able to go to the Latvian National Session of that year, but I showed interest and initiative to participate and was picked up by the lovely Gundega Ēlerte and Niks Bērziņš, bless their souls, to be an organizer of KZRS 2011 in my hometown of Kuldīga. What happened next was like a snowball of EYP sessions and events, playing an important role in the development of my character. The key was enthusiasm to partake, don’t be afraid to show it to get what you want. If you find role models in your life, connect with them while you can. For me, EYP is picture perfect – spending tonnes of time with multiple role models in a closed environment. If you want the elated state of consciousness to last, dig your nails into EYP and don’t let go.

Passion Public Transport Revolutionary, Really? Europe is almost 10 million square kilometres in size, so it is not exactly a small place. This makes a good transport system imperative to allow people to connect in both social and professional standpoints. With a reference to EYP, the vastness of the area and task needed in undertaking travel make it difficult for anyone to move around efficiently whether they be delegates or officials. Participants may be new to travelling on their own. The current transport system means that calling a taxi, boarding a boat, or taking a long-distance coach are all fairly daunting challenges to an inexperienced teenager. Therefore I feel that it needs to be more appealing to these demographics specifically in more than just the financial aspect. Public transport is normally not reliable or punctual. For example, personally, I have been left stranded many times waiting hours for a train or bus. Sometimes this may be due to uncontrollable circumstances, but there needs to be an incentive to arrive on time, or a fine if the service is late.

Buses and trains are extremely crowded and have poor hygiene, especially in cities. Nobody wants to ride in another person’s filth and grime. Do you ever find yourself sitting next to someone who has a cough and the worst manners not to cover their mouth? It’s disgusting. Travelling by public transport takes a lot of concentration to make sure you consult the correct timetable or board the right bus. Many users, usually elderly or adolescent, find the system unnecessarily complicated and a waste of time. Regular users of these services have been shown to suffer more everyday stress and general exhaustion. There needs to be a radical overhaul of the entire transport network. This will significantly help many aspects of people’s lives and will most likely make Europe a much more pleasant place to be. A final word from our President Kati Pärn on the matter - “I have a car, so what do I care?!”

Story The Deepest Thoughts of Bob There was a time, long ago, when Bob was a teenager and fellow delegate of a regional session. He was the average guy on the street but now he haunts the session every year. Bob spent a large period of time making a diary of what he saw and heard of the delegates each year. We were lucky enough to find it. November 1st 2012 - I have infiltrated one of their committees. I see them playing all sorts of odd games but the one that caught my ghostly eye was what I describe as ‘The Lava Game’. November 2nd 2012 - These delegates, they are like machines! I counted 1100 push-ups in 1 minute and they didn’t even break a sweat! They even climbed stairs and walls unlike I have ever seen before. I would liken it to a monkey climbing a tree. November 3rd 2012 - These people are incredible and at the same time, incredibly unhygienic. They live off such a small amount of quality sleep; I estimate only 3-5 hours per night. However, they smell awful! That is, from what I know anyway, because I don’t like to get near them too often. I presume that they do not like to spend a lot of time

in the shower. They seem to respond to music and only shower when specific songs are being played. During this time they like to watch a lot of water trickle down the drain and giggle with excitement. November 4th 2012 - I have realised that the delegates have no knowledge of what a cow is. They actually believe each other when someone says that if a cow laughs, chocolate milk comes out of it’s nose! What a ridiculous conception! However, every sane person knows that cows do not laugh as they are just too serious. Bob continues to explore these strange creatures in his diary. The only question that remains for Bob is ‘why?’ The only answer possible at this time is simply, ‘why not?’ Maybe, if you asked kindly, he could tell you some of his other magnificent stories.

Clash The Light Side The light side is the right side. When a new being is born, the light gives it life. It is a source of all things good, lively and sparkly. White consists of all the colours in the spectrum. There is no prejudice in white or in the light. All of the colours live in peace and harmony in the world of light. In the galaxy, the light is the source of force. The force is the energy which consumes everything and is the most powerful. It is very passionate as well, especially towards the stomach area. Lightness makes food so much better. For example the soft milk and whipped cream. The feeling of the softness pouring down your throat, especially when your throat is sore. When you are craving for something

sweeter, white chocolate will do the trick as well as vanilla ice-cream. However, the force is the strongest with white wine. That is the purest form of power. Another power source is a white suit. It fits everyone and people wearing it resemble angels in the sky. While praising the bright side of life, what does the dark side feel like? There is no way of saying this, because the dark is too dark to find it. Thus, forget about the dark side and remember, always look on the bright side of life!

A. A

.

Clash

vv

The Dark Side Dark is the opposite of light. It is the absence of light. It’s blackness. Even though you consider black as a colour, it kinda is not. It is so much more. Can you ever imagine a fancy party with rainbow coloured people drinking wine? NO. Because one of the most essential things for a fancy party is the black dresscode. Sophisticated people in elegant suits an little black dresses, which were invented by Coco Chanel. Black clothing also makes you look slimmer and sexier. In addition, darkness means power control, Darth Vader and Batman prove it. They wouldn’t be such serious characters if wearing pink. Black is the color of the hidden, the secret and the unknown, creating an air of mystery. It keeps things bottled up, hidden from the world. Therefore you can hide in darkness and do any

stupid, silly thing that come to your mind just because nobody will see it. That is why people party hard only during nights. „Project X” would look lame if it was a daylight party. As in the state where there is no light you can’t see anything, including yourself, you can let the imagination fly and become whatever you want: a rock, a unicorn or Obama. The weirdest creations of darkness are black holes. They suck everything right into them and it’s gone forever. Magic. I mean, everybody loves magic. To conclude: Come to the dark side, maybe some cookies?

Passion Are the Best Things in Life Free? The European Youth Parliament is an organisation much like any other charity, which relies on voluntary financial support. Without it, it would only be the shell of what we know this great organisation to be today. With more consistent funding from EYP’s charity status and full backing from large corporate investors, the participant’s travel expenses could be subsidised a lot more than as of now. This in turn would help EYP grow, as it would open up the ideals in more of a practical demographic. Perhaps a leaf could be taken from EYP Sweden’s book. For the 2nd regional sessions of EYP Sweden, one could be subsidised anywhere up to £180 (156 Lats) for being chairpersons, vice-president or editor. The other major expense is the staging of the actual event in terms of where to host it and the services provided. Given that EYP sessions are usually held at some kind of educational establishment (school, college, university), surely there could be some

kind of deal to be struck between the backers of these places and EYP in terms of marketing and advertisements. Could such a system be similarly regulated across the all EYP organisations? I think yes, a similar system could be implimented, however, it would need the backing of a large amount of corporate sponsors which I think is maybe slightly unrealistic. Nevertheless it would not be without trying as major industry leaders would usually jump at the chance to be involved with an event with such a unity of young people across the entire continent. Money is the root of all evil, however, when you need some, it doesn’t seem so evil. For the needs of such a heavily reliant organisation to be seemingly rested upon the ultimately slim chance of funding, I think is ridiculous. This is why there needs to be more emphasis placed on the financial side of EYP.

Passion Life Coaching Who of us have not had any flaws to deal with? Who of us have not been stuck in one place, not knowing the journey out? I expect the answer to be “none of us”. Life coaching is a tool in hand when these issues arrive. When you want to improve a physical skill or acquire a new life asset, you go to a particular club, e.g. football or debate club. Training is an act, where someone teaches you about new things. Imagine you are a freshman and you do not know anything about the school system: how to choose subjects, how many ICTs is too much, how to handle loads of homework. For this reason some universities have created mentoring systems, where people who are good at it will show how to handle those issues. However, visualise that you have a personal affair and you go to a friend to pour your heart. Most probably you will hear advice on how to solve the problem. The concern arises when his suggestions do not help you. What would you do then? Around mid-90ies coaching started to develop into an independent discipline as it is nowadays. Coaching is a practice which enables you to identify capabilities you have

and helps you to use them efficiently. To be more precise, life coaching is a learning process during which you get individual support to achieve your personal goals. For example, you are having a hard time choosing a path in life and you decide to try life coaching. During that the coach can only ask questions, but not state his own opinion nor talk about his practice. His only task is to question the person. Finally, with the questions the person being coached has to find solution within oneself. For this reason, life coaching is such a rewarding technique. Through that practice you will improve your knowledge about yourself, potential and strengths. Furthermore, coming back to the aforementioned example, your decisions made after life coaching would be your own, as it comes from the inside of you and is a result of analysis of yourself. Moreover, finding a balance in todays’ fast and competitive life is a challenge itself. Deeply knowing who you are is an advantage everyone desires.

Valent

Passion Culture is Moving Fashion is one of the fastest progressing art forms. Innovation is the key element. Valentino Clemente Ludovico Garavani, known as Valentino, is an Italian fashion designer mainly famous for his gorgeous and very feminine dresses. Most of them have been worn on the red carpet by numerous Hollywood stars.

tinos

A new element Valentino brought to fashion was virtualizing all the work of his life, turning it into a 3D virtual museum. It is a downloadable application for the desktop: there are various galleries of over 300 dresses and art which would take up to 10,000 square feet in a physical museum. Also, you can see original sketches, advertising campaigns and other archival footage. For a fashion enthusiast, it is a paradise on their computer. This museum is one of a kind in the world right now, but online museums have existed since the 90s. Those where the times, when the tech-

nology was very bad and the experience of a museum was not that remarkable. However, the idea of sharing culture with the wider world was expanding. We do not realise how much culture we consume over the internet. Besides all the music, films and Youtube channels, there are online galleries of picture and photo art from different artists. Installations are another way how the Internet has helped culture to expand. We take it all for granted, which raises the question- do we want culture to be totally accessible? With accessibility there is always the question about quality. Does one eliminate the other? New things always inquire compromising and going to new territories. I think the most important thing to always remember is the emotion. If new experiences make you feel good, then they are worth exploring.

A. A

Passion Music is Your Wisdom Every person is different from each other, which that makes us unique and special. It is completely normal to like different things and see the world through different coloured glasses. The same is with music that we choose to listen to. It can be progressive and regressive. It has been proven by scientists, that music can influence your way of thinking and working productively. The best choice of music depends on what you are doing at that particular moment and what kind of outcome you are intending. In EYP you definitely want to aim to create the perfect working atmosphere where you could be able to feel free, comfortable and achieve the best results. People have different roles to play here, each one of them may have specific music choices to create the perfect ambience. Let’s start with our dear delegates. They have to be energetic all the time to really feel the EYP spirit that floats around. For these kind of situations heavy metal wouldn’t be the best idea. Delegates should listen to en-

ergetic and positive music, e.g. PSY- Gangnam Style. Orgas have a pretty similar story. They are the last ones who go to sleep and first ones to wake up, so, sometimes it’s hard to stay awake and not fall asleep when you’re needed. The best music for them would be something cheerful and definitely lively , e.g. Coldplay – Clocks. Chairs, on the other hand, are the role models. Basically, they could listen to anything they like, but depressive music is a definite NO. And finally, Journalist. They are the combination of everything. They have to be active and vigourous, but at the same time calm and reflective. Therefore, journos should listen to different styles of music that introduces them into the right mood, because you cannot force inspiration on someone. For the best result, it has to come naturally. Music is a big part of our everyday lives, choose it wisely!

L. V.

Passion The Ultimate Key To Happiness There are so many simple combinations in life from which you can achieve wonderful results. For example, in basketball, a few tricky moves and you get a point. However, this article is an entirely different story. Milk, sugar, cocoa butter and solids are ingredients of- to my mind- the most delicious combination ever. Chocolate is the marvel, which has obsessed many souls over the world. As a matter of fact chocolate has an effect similar to drugs as well. It makes you love the person who gave it to you. Those people are called aphrodisiacs. We have to thank Christopher Columbus for robbing the cargo of a Mayan trader back on 15th August, 1502. He is the true founder of cocoa beans, leading to the creation of this sweet masterpiece. Nowadays, chocolate has been researched to have a magical effect on people. Firstly, chocolate makes people happy. The whole view opens up and your mind clears out the negations. The second thing is that

researchers at Harvard University carried out experiments and found out that eating chocolate three times a month can add one year to your life-span. I guess if you eat chocolate every day you become immortal… Well, I’m on my way to find that out! To conclude, I would like to point out that there is nothing better than a good friend, except a good friend with chocolate. If you doubt the supremacy of chocolate, read this article again, buy a chocolate bar and enjoy its overwhelming taste and the happiness it brings. As for chocolate in EYP Latvia, the next regional session, the Riga Regional Session, will emphasize the necessity of this delicacy during EYP events. If you wish to observe the full power of chocolate, speak to the chocoholic HO’s – Anna Leščinska and Reinis Tutāns and be thrilled about how chocolate affects them.

AFET

Don’t Be Fat Be AFET On a rather cold and windy day seven citizens of Latvia gathered in a small town called Iecava to save a region called the Middle-East, a far-far land of conflicts and dictatorship. Before they could save the world, they had to learn about each other, build invulnerable trust and advance skills of working as a team. Like every beginning, theirs was rusty as well. It started with a little bit of modesty and disbelief. However, they grew out of it, some of them more quickly than others. By the time of lunch they knew quite a lot about each other. In the team there was a future-to-be Olympic winner, skydiver and travellers to the space. Still the preparations were not yet done. They needed to connect in an intimate level as well and come up with the presentation. They decided to start the invasion into the MiddleEast the next day. Nevertheless, they started to realise the difficult-

ness of the topic already at night. They were worried that there are not enough of them. To everyone’s surprise Harry Potter (Beatrise) from their presentation came in the morning. She was the missing part of the team. Being fully complete they were ready to conquer the region and make the world a more democratic place. With the skills of Harry Potter, they were sure that there would be no obstacles hampering them during their project. Unfortunately, that was not the real truth. The Middle-East did not want to go down without a fight. Despite of the fight, Harry Potters’ magic, guidance from Dumbeldore and prof. McGonagall and the effort of team lead to their goal. They managed to democratise the Middle-East and make the world a better place.

CULT I Three cheers for CULT I Creating a cheer choreography that will blow everyone´s mind is not an easy task. Luckily, the colourful committee of CULT I has been practising thoroughly and they will be ready to bring it! The team consists of old champions but since the competition this year is very intense they have to step up their game. This means new members and new techniques. Firstly, to get the maximum effect, the team determined every special quality represented in the team. Now, besides the head choreographer and a media expert, the team has a DJ, a costume designer, a cheer master, a stunt master, technician, a manager, a logistics master and a make-up artist. After meeting with each other, the trainings could begin. The head choreographer is obsessed with improvisation theatre right now, so there was a lot of creativity involved in the training. Also, concentrating on the enemy is essential. For this, they

imagined doing makeovers on them with chicken eyes and magic. An interrupting war between giants, midget and wizards disturbed the training, but as the saying goes: “What does not kill you makes you stronger”. Finally, the dancing could begin. Some new moves had to be involved in the choreography, so a brainstorm was in order. Then, being so prepped up with the trainings and full of inspiration, the first pyramid collapsed. However, after a powderbreak they were more than ready to try again and succeed this time. Finally, the light and technical attributes must be checked in order to give an amazing performance. Now, the cheerleaders of CULT I are proper masters of cheer, provided with some extra glitter and glamour. The cheerleading competition of KZRS´12 better watch out!

CULT II

All for one One for all Once upon a time, on a far away deserted island lived a group of amazing adventurers lead by their beautiful Ukrainian Queen, Ira. They were a group of elite assassins trained to conquer every enemy placed in their way with wordplay and positive propaganda. First in line to the throne is Judīte, a ruthless, rampaging rattlesnake ready to snap at any challenger’s shins. Next in the line up is Anna, a cute, chameleonlike creature, ready to change to adapt at any moment. However, beware, one wrong word and she’ll cut you so deep you feel it in your soul. Within this group though there is a lovely marriage also. Diāna and Dāvis, the dynamic duo ready to dive into any battle available. They are free spirits, crushing all creatures along the way. Nevertheless, be afraid, get near to one of them and the other will flatten you

quicker than you can scream. Paula comes in next, and as the brains of the group she loves to torture delicate hearts like a hard-hitting hawk. She will turn your mind into a maze with monstrous attacks left, right and centre. Last but certainly not least there is Dita, a little bundle of joy, packed with a punch that could floor even the fiercest foe. Haters should be aware that this committee breaths the fire of a dragon, whilst having the loudest roar of the angriest lion. If you should be so brave to even try to step up against them, they will crush you without pity. You have been warned. In General Assembly they will contemplate then assassinate you, obliterating the chances of your committee.

Meet the

DROI

hottest committee Dear DROI committee, To be honest, you guys represent the style. Opa Gangnam style. The hallway where you performed the famous Youtube dance was filled with other committees and officials, and I can assure you, they were astonished by your creativity and incredible teamwork. If you were to perform on a stage, it would be a blast of awesomeness and a great pleasure to others. Nils would play the guitar, Dina take over the piano and Kalvis would amaze us by playing the flute, alongside with Annija and Dina raising their voices. Our lovely chairs would accompany you, since both of them are skilful guitar players and you could even consider letting Irma play the triangle, which appeared to be her hidden desire. Once you will have won all the Grammy’s, why not spicing it up with some dance moves? Nils and Kalvis will get you covered. Apart from the artistic phenomenon you share a passion for sports as well. No wonder why DROI committee members are considered to be the most attrac-

tive delegates. Alens is an outstanding athlete, mostly committed to swimming and having won several medals. Yet he is not the only one with rewards, Dina collected several medals from biathlon competitions. Elina enjoys horse riding, especially her own precious cutie named Dilando. Nils and Kalvis proved their wonderful dancing skills while partying. Annija has tried out a lot of different sports, since working out is a great joy to her. In addition, you affirmed to be the wittiest committee. The way you resolved the Order game tasks was the creative thinking at its highest level. Having created a very promising dynamic team on the first day, you dived into committee work with excitement. Always staying respectful, you managed to reach an agreement. You represent the perfect balance between having fun and working efficiently. If you keep that attitude not only for your further EYP career but for life, success will be there for you. With love,

ECON The ECON awards The paparazzi are overwhelming, the limos are everywhere and the cameras are rolling – the 2012 Annual ECON Awards red carpet broadcast has started. The first limo approaches and it is Anita who gets out of it. A paparazzi flashlight storm erupts. The next limo brings Linda to the venue and she gets out of the limo with all of her 16 cousins accompanying her. WNBA’s all-star centre Amālija arrives with LeBron James by her side. Lelde, Daila and Dāvis arrive soon after. We cut to inside of the theatre where the hosts of the awards Niks and Zeynep are welcoming everyone to the 2012 Annual ECON Awards. The first one of the night is the Best Smile trophy – awarded to the delegate who possesses the biggest influence on the others with the power of a smile. Zeynep opens the envelope and it’s Daila who takes the award! The Funniest Member award is given to the wittiest member, capable of raising everyone’s spir-

its. The committee has voted- the winner is no-one else than Amālija! The ECON Nobel Peace Prize is given to the level-headed members sustaining the order and the calm atmosphere of the committee. This year it is awarded to Dāvis! The Most Reliable Member award, celebrating the valuable delegate that gives the committee a good sense of stability, was given to Linda! The Best Manners award is given to the most polite delegate, displaying tolerance and open-mindedness, which this year is Anita! The Best Hair award, glorifying the most fashionable haircut of the committee, goes to the one and only Lelde! The broadcast rolls credits and another annual ECON awards is settled. All we can do now is wait for next year’s KZRS and the ECON talent that it brings to the table.

Don’t worry be Happy Some say that such small amount of people will lead the committee to a vague resolution. I’d say that this committee has taken a different road. Ending up with only 7 members, LIBE I has proved to be a hardworking and extraordinary team. The committee is special for not having outspoken leaders and castaways. Everyone is tolerant and enthusiastic. The first impression on the group as a whole is Snow White and the seven dwarfs. Mārtiņš, as Snow White, perfectly unites the committee and guides them to be down-to-earth. He is strict yet very competent and like a father to his group of younglings. LIBE I has proven to be a very friendly committeelike a big family. Antra’s positivity emits each time she starts speaking. Thus, I bet she is a great cook. Nora is one of the speakers of this group. She is an artistic personality and her opinion is solid as ice as she used to be a figureskater. Silarts on the contrary has many wild ideas and different point

LIBE I of view to the surroundings. Arta is the patient type and will throw in a couple of new ideas when everyone else has nothing to say. Matīss is mostly the observer of the discussion. When the right time comes, he contributes with very useful points. As to Katrīna, her intelligent opinion is important for this committee. She can find the flaws and additions to the ideas others express. Toms is a great guy with lots of knowledge and respectful attitude to everyone else. His critical comments are perfectly relevant helping to develop the resolution. From my point of view one can clearly see the start of a new friendship. Though struggling with deeper aspects of the topic, LIBE I is ready to stand tall at the GA. I sense the potential of this committee and foresee some of them in an International Session. I hope my predictions come true and the committee of Civil Liberties I from KZRS’12 will be greatly represented at the National session as well! Best wishes from your journalist!

LIBE II

From potato to unicorn Once upon a time, in a very far land called Japania, lived a great family - the Libe. Lanika Libe was a single parent . She had two children, a girl named Kristiaija and a son named Maika. All of them were really close. Kristiaija, the oldest child, had always been the normal kid in this family. She had just passed her awkward teenage shyness. Yet she still had the same young artistic spirit which made her so incredible. Maika, on the other hand, was still an ordinary teenage guy, who had always felt like a girl trapped in the wrong body. A part of him always felt connected to his outside appearance, but at the same time he was closely in touch with his feminine side. As any normal guy, he was interested in cars, but also loved the cuteness of unicorns. So there he was, left with a unicorn in his dream Masarati. The most interesting person here was Lanika. She had a split

personality, actually even three, which made her character fairly inconceivable. By her explanation the La stands for her observer part, Ni stands for her caring and truly lovable simpliness, and Ka stands for the charismatic wild excitement. The most unusual living creature in their family though, was their pet RiiiSiii Pok3. He was a Pokemon who hates digimons. The weirdest part here is that he has been living in this family for centuries. Yes, he is immortal. Again, a unique personality combined with a proper gentelmen’s behavior. Of course they all had their rough times, fights and misunderstandings, but that never drove them apart, it only made the connection between them more resilient. They had a special bond. They, who loved shoes and were loved by their „Mom, will always be remembered by their awesomeness.
