“Jacaranda (Jacaranda acutifolia). Family Bignoniaceae. South American tree with clusters of mauve flowers and delicate pinnate leaves. The streets of Pretoria and parts of Johannesburg are adorned with beauty in early summer. See ZIMBABWE CREEPER. The former town engineer of Pretoria J. J. Jameson, who planted it there on a large scale 50 years ago, was nicknamed ‘Jacaranda Jim’” (Rosenthal 1967:267).
