MESSAGES F R O M

LTG + DNE LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR Hello everyone! August is upon us, meaning school is starting soon too. I hope you all have been getting an adequate amount of rest and doing your best to stay safe and stay healthy. It’s safe to say that the past few months have not been the easiest for any of us, but I applaud you all for keeping a positive mindset and moving with your best foot forward. If we continue to follow the advice from medical professionals and take care of ourselves, the likelier it will be for social distancing rules to be lifted sooner! Thank you for all you do and enjoy this issue of The Sting <3

WITH MATCHA LOVE, Lynne Do

DIVISION TECH EDITOR I hope you all are doing well! Quarantine has definitely been a difficult time for all of us. With COVID-19’s presence, it is important that you all continue to practice social distancing and sanitary precautions, such as frequent and thorough handwashing and wearing a face mask in public. With this, our division will still hold service projects. Our new initiative, Service at Home allows Key Clubbers to continue serving their community through these harsh times! We encourage you to keep participating in both club and divisional events. Thank you and happy reading!

STINGING WITH SERVICE, Natasha Tran

Mountain Shadows We had our first in-person service event at Mt. Shadows Community Homes and had a total of 7 OGHS members attend! We helped de-brush fire hazard areas and made the areas beautiful again. It was so nice to be out helping the community in person instead of online and at home. It was also super nice getting to know Stephen, a Kiwanis Advisor from Del Mar! He lightens the mood with his jokes and conversations.

American Legion I have participated in serving dinner at the American Legion. At the event we are tasked with preparing food and cutlery that will be used in the dinner serving later that night. The usual food that is served is chicken, bread, a side dish, and a brownie and ice cream dessert. It was really heartwarming to see all the guests enjoy their food and it felt great to serve people.

Salvation Army During the past month and a half, 3 of our officers--Chris Rodriguez, Mary Ngo, and Andrew Nguyen--were able to volunteer at our local Salvation Army. We volunteered every Thursday and helped to transport and organize donated food into the Salvation Army warehouse. It was enjoyable to help do the heavy work and contribute to a local organization in our community.

D37E Service Week During the month of June, members in our division were invited to participate in our divisional service week which introduced the new service hours system. Members found the service gathering quite fun especially since we put on a movie every day that members really enjoyed. Some days it was harder to get member participation however, I was very proud of those who did come to serve the community with their division.
