HI JELLIES! Welcome to the July 2020 edition of THE STING! With school and AP tests ending, I hope you’ve been doing well and feeling stress free! Considering the current circumstances, we hope you’re still practicing social distancing and partaking in our new initiative, SERVICE AT HOME! Division 37 East offers many opportunities for at-home community service. So far we’ve seen the Region 1.5 Service Week, as well as the D36E x D37E Sky Jellies Service Week! There’s no better time than now to earn your community service hours. In light of recent events, we would like to mention that D37E supports CNH Key Club in standing with the Black community. We must combat racial inequality and continue to fight for these injustices. To see more information and how you can support the movement, click HERE. Of course, I hope we can all meet again soon. Stay tuned for more of our service projects! Other than that, happy reading! :D I hope you enjoy this month’s issue.

STINGING WITH SERVICE, Natasha Tran DIVISION NEWS EDITOR 03

L E T T E R

HELLO JELS! The 2019-2020 school year is finally over! I hope you all completed the second semester and AP exams on a good note and feel like weight has been lifted off your shoulders. Despite the start of summer, I hope you are still taking the necessary precautions to stay healthy by staying at home (but if you must go out, wear a mask!). Also, please do not forget that service never stops. Key Club is year-round and summer is one of the best times to be serving our community through the numerous projects the clubs and division we serve have to offer! To continue emphasizing the importance of social distancing

F R O M

while aiming to achieve our end-of-the-term 6000 service hours goal, we have been holding at-home events that I highly encourage you all to participate in. Follow our Division Instagram (@d37ejellies) to stay updated on our events. We would also like to state that we stand with the Black community and do not tolerate racial inequality. As members of Key Club, we have been taught to uphold the organization’s

T H E L T G 04

core values, two being inclusiveness and caring. We must use our platforms to amplify the voices of the Black community and actively fight for change in any way we can, including signing petitions, educating those around you, and directly donating or watching YouTube videos that support BLM.

WITH MATCHA LOVE, Lynne Do LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR

CLUB UPDATES + PROGRESS DEL LAGO - IRMA GONZALEZ For the month of June, DLA has had many service opportunities. Though something big was that we reached our END term goal of 700 hours served together. We are now extending our goal to 1,200 hours for the end of the term. We participated in our third service week along with the Sky Bisons. Something new is that we’ve had a beach clean up, where we picked up trash and also enjoyed the ocean breeze. We’ve continued to volunteer at Interfaith and American Legion, which have been our ongoing events. I’m ecstatic to see what we do next month.

ESCONDIDO - JANIA PADILLA We had a very slow start, but as of now we have started on several service projects. The Salvation Army being the most consistent one, and we have many more planned for the following month. Also my officers and I have gotten pretty close and comfortable with each other despite not being able to bond in person hehe <3 I’m very excited for what the future holds for our club once quarantine is lifted!

HIGH TECH HIGH - LIVIA IACOBELLI Even though HTHNKC has had a rocky first start, we have been working hard every single dar to bring people together through different forms of community service. Soon we will be wrapping up a mask making project with the Young Leaders in Healthcare club at school. We have been pushing through the June service week through daily meetings, and even planning service events within the club.

LA COSTA CANYON - OLIVIA PACHECO We held an at-home service week with Del Lago Academy Key Club and High Tech High Key Club. Many participated and are excited for future service events. MISSION HILLS - ZANDER VILAYSANE Mission Hills has been actively participating in division service weeks and we held our own service event where we wrote letters to our graduating Key Clubbers. We currently have 82 service hours and intend to grow these numbers with planned, near future, home and joint club service weeks.

ORANGE GLEN - APRIL PRACHANHPHENG As OGHSKC, we have had one general club meeting so far. During our first meeting, we had a Kahoot and a Club Penguin social. We also had a dog toy making with DLA and a compliment service project. <3 SAN MARCOS - DANIEL JIANG SMKC has been super productive during these times as we’ve participated in divisional events and service weeks, as well as holding our own ‘Fight For Equality’ service week. SM members were able to make posters and spread awareness in an effort to combat social injustice!

P R E S I D E N T S’

M E S S A G E S

SAN PASQUAL - HANNAH REYES My officers and I have been participating in the weekly projects the division has been holding. We’ve also been brainstorming ideas for online service projects we could do ourselves and ways to increase our members once school starts!

VALLEY CENTER - GABRIELLE OLIVERA So far, the club has been quite productive despite the odds we’ve faced. We participated in community service activities such as creating origami cranes for the Cranes for a Cure program and are planning to do a beach clean up within the month.

WHAT IS THE DIVISION POINTS SYSTEM? The Division Points System, a new system implemented by our MRC Mya Reyes, is a spreadsheet intended to record the progress of individual clubs through a points system. This system is dependent on the points clubs earn through various categories. WHERE CAN I FIND THE SYSTEM? Click HERE or go to tinyurl.com/jelly-points2021 HOW DOES IT WORK? This point system will allow clubs to map out their term by setting any goals/plans to ensure their club can earn points. The club with the most accumulated amount of points by the end of the term will earn CLUB OF THE YEAR and will be awarded with a trophy! WHAT CATEGORIES ARE THERE? ★ Submissions (includes bonus points) ★ Attendance (includes bonus points) ★ Promotion ★ Recognition ★ Funds Raised for PTP ★ Membership IS THERE A LIMIT FOR HOW MANY POINTS YOU CAN EARN PER CATEGORY? No! Earn as many points as possible from all categories throughout the term!

In the past, DMT has provided our members with informational videos regarding club/divisional/district events which can be found on IGTV HERE. For the 2021 term, we hope to expand and cover more various topics. HOW DO I APPLY? WHERE CAN I FIND MORE INFORMATION? Please click HERE or go to http://tinyurl.com/d37e-dmt21 to apply for DMT! There are five positions and six people will fulfill them. The deadline is Saturday, July 4th @ 11:59PM. More information will be listed in the application WHO WILL REVIEW THE APPLICATIONS? The Division News and Tech Editor (Natasha Tran and April Prachanhpheng) will carefully review your application upon submission. They will also overseer DMT. WHY SHOULD I APPLY? DMT is a fun, inclusive group where members are passionate to collaborate on many projects. It was a fun experience that I fully recommend!

ORANGE GLEN, Alexis Gonzales (Vice President) We woke up bright and early to go to the sandwich making at interfaith with Del Lago. It was nice to do an in person event after doing virtual ones for so long. We bagged the sandwiches and put them into lunch sacks with a juice box and a granola bar. Over 200 lunches were made in an hour. Not only did we get to know a few Del Lego jellies, we also got to catch up with Randy! it was a lot of fun and I can’t wait to do it again, hopefully with more members present.

DEL LAGO, John Samson (Vice President) The day which had the most participation was on Wholesome Wednesday. Members were tasked with cooking food to share with family and friends at home! This event was the most fun as not only cooking in general fun, but everyone loves good food. This was also the event where members could let their creativity run free. I experimented with what type of cookie i wanted to make, and it was super fun mixing and matching different ingredients. I was able to see how some members also used that creativity to bake beautiful cakes. What’s even better is that these members would share these treats with friends and families. It is more important now, more than ever, to always spend time with your family, and to have fun with them in any way you can.

HIGH TECH HIGH, Livia Iacobelli (President) May was easily our most productive month yet! On Monday, we sent letters to unappreciated workers, showed a talent on Tuesday, gifted a baked goodie on Wednesday, showed thanks to someone on Thursday, and then painted rocks with kind messages on Friday! It was a great way to work with schools directly and contribute to the community in whatever way we could. It was amazing to see how schools could still collaborate all thanks to the common drive to help our community despite all these barriers.
