BENICIA
TREE PLANTING
Our Second Saturday Tree Care Day on February 13 also concluded a politically stormy Benicia Library project where citizens filed an appeal in August to the City's permit to remove eight trees at the Library. The City committed to replace these trees and the Benicia Tree Foundation offered to organize volunteers to plant the trees during the winter tree planting season. Fifteen volunteers from the community, including members from Benicia Scout BSA Troop 7, Troop 9, and the Benicia High Key Club showed up on February 13 to plant eight 15-gallon trees. Everyone was planting by 9:30, following Marcos' technique. After the trees were planted, the volunteers spread three yards of mulch around the new trees, the Library entry and the fountain courtyard. By 11:30, the volunteers went on to enjoy the rest of the weekend and the tools were packed away.
We revamped this year's spirit pack to not include items that could be used in a rally since there's still the high possibility that it will not happen! Instead, the Spirit Coordinators created a cheaper and more "memorabilia" version of the spirit pack.
