SEPTEMBER ISSUE

“One of our members participated in September’s Division Wide Service event and created a page for the Safety Booklet. Her page was about Poison Prevention, which was the topic she chose during the Zoom call. The Booklet was made to focus on the Pediatric Trauma Program.” By Melissa Theodorus, Armijo,

1. What is their mission?

Children’s Miracle Network raises money to benefit hospitalized kids and increases awareness of its member hospitals. All donations directly benefit hospitals, helping to purchase up-to-date equipment, train staff, conduct life-saving research, implement outreach programs, and provide healthcare for children whose parents can’t afford to pay.

2. The importance of CMN

62 Children enter a Children’s Miracle Network Hospital for treatment every minute – that’s one child every second. Some are suffering from a traumatic injury. Others require constant care because they were born too early, or with a genetic disease.

How can you help?

Provide toys and dolls for kids doing through trauma. Contribute to or create videos, to or book lending libraries or playrooms. Support safety campaigns or parent education programs.

Since 1983, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals has raised more than $5 billion—most of it $1 at a time—for 170 children’s hospitals across the United States and Canada.

FIRST CLUB MEETING

Benicia Key Club held their first club meeting for the new school on Friday, October 2. Officers introduced new members to Key Club by explaining what the club will do this year in terms of service events, socials, and fundraisers. Afterward, a Q&A session was held where members could ask questions about the club. Over 30 students were able to join the virtual meeting and many were excited to became offical members.

CHARITY MILES AND

FREERICE By Melissa Theodorus, Armijo,

One of our members ran and walked on her indoor treadmill for charity miles. She contributed almost a mile for her selected charity. Also, multiple members answered questions on the Freerice app to gain points and donate grains of rice from WHO. One of our members even made it to the top 5 in the entire division group. They’ve been playing on their freetime anywhere they can. The great thing about Freerice is that you can play anywhere and anytime to help the UN Food Program, especially at home when in quarantine.

SEPTEMBER DWF:

GAME NIGHT

9 members showed up to the DWF for September, raising $64 dollars for PTP. DTE Jacob won 1st place and won a free boba gift card.

TRICK OR TREAT FOR

UNICEF

Trick or treat for UNICEF is going virtual this year! UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund) is an organization in over 190 countries to reach the most disadvantaged children. UNICEF advocates for the protection of children’s rights in order to help them meet their basic needs and expand their opportunities so that they can reach their highest potential.

Normally money is raised by carrying around the UNICEF Trick-or-treat boxes and asking for donations instead of candy. This year all fundraising will be held online. In order to participate, go to trickortreatforunicef.org. Then, ask your president or kiwanis advisor to register your club using the code TOT-Kiwanis! Online fundraising officially starting October 1st.
