Leather The history of leather is rich and vibrant. It is one of the oldest materials that has been utilized in the history of mankind. It was used for clothes and tools. The first settlers used the animal hides to protect their bodies. In all likelihood, it played a significant role in the evolution of civilization. It is an outstanding example of creativity and ingenuity. Over long periods of time it has been an integral part of design and fashion and among the oldest and valuable discoveries of the globe. Wild hunters sought out the food of wild animals, and later built clothes, footwear and tents constructed from their hides. The making of leather, and the process of making it, is still in use until today. However, the art of creating leather has served as essential to connect people from all over the world. What is meant when we say that? Let's explore more deeply into this treasured material. WHAT IS LEATHER: Prior to recording, individuals would place their bodies inside dry animal skins. However the skin's stiffness and rotting were a major problem. Therefore, they discovered ways to soften and protect surface. This is when the process for making leather started when the initial leathers created. The initial hides or skins were probably dry in sunlight as well as at the height of the sun. The hides were submerged in water and dried in open flames. Later, the method of immersing twigs and leaves, as well as letting skins stay in the process of water grew and made it simpler to keep the hides. Archeologists have found that early people used the skins of hunted animals for clothes and food. It is believed that the majority is believed to come from the hide or skin of any mammal, bird and reptile. The hides of animals are utilized in the tanning process in which chemicals used to tan react with the collagen within the skin, making waterproof, durable and resistant to degradation. HISTORY OF LEATHER - BACK TO ITS ORIGIN: Leather is among the oldest artifacts from the human race. This process creating leather goes back to the beginning of the period. In the early years in prehistoric time, humans were seeking to keep themselves safe from the elements. However, quickly, they realized that the animals consumed could not just be used to eat however, they could also be used for clothing and shelters. According to researchers, the oldest evidence of work on leather jackets, biker jacket and many more, which includes scars on hides dates back about 400 years in the past. At the time, Neanderthals wore hair and didn't need to wear clothes. But, hunter's began making use of the hides from the animals they killed to make sunshade using their skins. They hung hides on branches and used them for hunter's seasons. These skins utilized for a short period of time because of the intermittent sunshine and rain. A record-breaking flood took place in the year 8000 BC, which was much more severe than it was times in the Upper Paleolithic (old stone age). The rain and sun became more frequent and cold was more essential which led them to cover themselves in sleep. In the process, they lost their hair's thickness due

to genetic change. The skin began to need protection, too. They started hunting more frequently and attempting to extend the lifespan for their skins. The Hittites' account mentions it was in 2200 BC the shepherd from Sinai killed his animal. The skin was removed and then defatted the meat with clay and salt. However, a strong gust of wind swept away the skin. It was then thrown into the rock's hollow and filled with water that was partially dissolving alum sodium. These alum-salts present in water can enhance the effect of salt on the skin. The skin is protected from the effects of aging. A month later, while the shepherd was passing by the exact rock where the goat's skin was discovered. It was different from the normal, the skin turned white, but it did not change color to brown. When he looked at the skin, he was shocked. He removed it then dried it and then put it back on. After witnessing the results of the skin and its results, he decided to try the procedure in similar conditions. However, it was found that the skin was not able to break down. He discovered that the water in the site had special properties and was brimming with salt. He referred to it this as "Rock Salt". That's what made him the first to get tanned throughout history. The process of tanning became the specialty of traders and the Hittites who then sold it via caravans that travelled between regions. For more than 1,000 years, the people of the Hittites are the sole ones capable of tanning material. This was a characteristic which was an important factor in their prosperity. A majority of historians believe that the process was invented by random chance. It's unclear what year it was the process of vegetable tanning began but there is a belief that it happened via random chance. THE ORIGIN OF LEATHER IN EUROPE: Some industries are affected by an historical context. One of the most important places to grasp the core of the European leather industry is Italy which is the largest leather producer, and is still making the finest leather on the market. The manufacturing of the leather industry in Italy is a long-standing tradition that goes as far back as the 13th century, with evidence of a tanning facility located in Pompeii ruin that was destroyed in 79 AD. Santa Croce in Florence was the first city that was recognized as the best spot to buy Italian leather. The city has numerous tanning establishments and is the ideal place to purchase high-quality leather products. In addition, Italian leather uses the most durable portion of hide called full-grain. In addition to being the most long, full-grain leather isn't just the most durable, but it is also the most beautiful material. Another revival is taking place in the industry of manufacturing in Portugal and another old tanning center. It is believed that in Portugal the first time tanning was introduced was at Guimaraes, Porto, and Alcanena which are the primary locations for leather at current. Tannining in Portugal began at the 17th century's start. It increased rapidly after the Industrial Revolution, which permitted firms to expand and increase their profits to the point of scaling.
