NORTE - NORTHWEST

Itinerary Day 1: Salta Welcome at the airport and transfer to the selected hotel. Day 2: San Antonio de los Cobres and Salinas Grandes We will start heading for Campo Quijano and, after going through Quebrada del Toro, we’ll finally reach Santa Rosa de Tastil with its legendary ruins. Next, we will go on to San Antonio de los Cobres, a typical Puna town located over 13,120 feet above sea level, and further north up to Salinas Grandes, to finally take the uphill Lipán road to visit the town of Purmamaraca, with the famous Cerro de Siete Colores. From there, we will go lodging to the colorful town of Tilcara. Day 3: Garganta del Diablo - Tilcara In the morning, we will have time to tour the town and, in the afternoon, we will walk to Garganta del Diablo. Back to Tilcara. Day 4: Tilcara - Iruya - Humahuaca In the morning, we will take a local bus to Iruya, a picturesque town buried down in the hills. We’ll have time to go along the beautiful, cobbled small streets and its typical chapel. Coming back to and lodging at Humahuaca. Day 5: Uquía - Quebrada de las Señoritas We will leave early for the small town of Uquía with its San Francisco de Paula church. The goldlaminated altar was made by the Jesuit monks in 1691 and was decorated with the harquebus angel paintings brought from Cuzco. Then, we will walk for 3 hours to Quebrada de las Señoritas, a paleonthological site where milodonte and giant sloth fossils have been found. We will visit a vicuna farm and an old hydraulic mill. Back to Humahuaca. Day 6: Multicolored Towns and Ravines Going out Humahuaca we will go through La Peña Blanca (Quebrada de Humahuaca east border) to start the multicolored towns and

ravines adventure. Valle de Coctata was the main farmland in the area and we will tour the cropping terraces. After lunch, we will do a 2.30-hour trekking to the petroglifos —drawings carved in rock. Finally, we will go up the Santa Barbara hills to 13,776 feet above sea level. There, we will visit the impressive, multicolored Cerro Hornocal looking post with a breath-taking view to Abra del Zenta. Local afternoon snack and return to Humahuaca. Day 7: Quebrada de Sapagua - Hornaditas Community We will leave towards Quebrada de Sapagua. There, we will have a 60-minute walk to discover local cave art. From there, we will go by bus to the Hornaditas community, where the local people will welcome us and share their daily activities with us in a unique surrounding. Back to Salta. Day 8: Salta After breakfast, we will go to the airport or to the city bus station.
