The Last Bite

Our game is mud Our favorite southern dessert? Mississippi Mud Pie—that rich concoction of pudding and whipped cream on a chocolate crust. And while Maya’s chocolate torte doesn’t exactly cop to its origins, it tastes suspiciously like the real thing. The West Main restaurant’s elevated version of the classic starts with an Oreo crust baked with butter and brown sugar. Chef de Cuisine Joshua Moore then adds a smooth layer of dark chocolate torte (“with notes of Shenandoah Joe coffee and vanilla beans,” he says), and covers it in salted caramel, fresh whipped cream, and more crushed Oreos. Moore says the restaurant sells about four dozen slices per week. At least a few of those are ours, tbh. JOHN ROBINSON
