Rod“Rocket” Phillips

Well, finally after 10 years, a Premiership. Something that we have been striving for but has eluded us on 8 separate occasions since the C colts win in 2000 (Reserves and Thirds in 2000, League and Reserves in 2003, Reserves in 2004, League and Reserves in 2005 and Thirds 2009). Something that we should all be striving for whenever we are playing footy. As administrators, it’s the anticipation of Premierships that keeps you motivated, and 2010 is the start of something big for Wesley Curtin. The season began with the signing of Earl Spalding as the senior coach, Earls experience at the highest level both as an AFL premiership player and in the coaching ranks at the Fremantle Dockers, (not to mention his experience coaching at both Swan Districts and East Fremantle) gave us the confidence to attack 2010 with increased vigour and excitement. For 2010 we also had changes to our other coaching positions in the A grade and also our second colts. The new coaches were, Gerry Mabarrak (A Reserves), Drew Maddock (A Colts) and myself (2nd Colts). The E Grade and E Reserves positions were filled once again by Andrew Jakawenko and Trent Cooper respectively. The A grade had a good year; finishing 5th was probably a disappointing result after being in a top three position at the midpoint of the season. Thanks must go to Earl and his team (Malcom Harris, John Duffy, Dennis “Boo” Marshall, Scott Hobbs and Shaun Murphy), they did a massive job this year in getting the club into the position that we ended up in. We made massive positive steps forward this season, having all our A grade teams making finals is a huge improvement on previous seasons and it is in no small part due to the work of Earl and his team. The club will be looking forward to future success and should be well placed for the following years with Earl in the top spot. The club is also very fortunate to have Earl sign on again for 2011. The Reserves had their best year since 2005, with a new coach in the top job, and a new focus on youth. Thanks to Gerry Mabarrack, new to the club this season. He definitely showed the professionalism that we expect from all our coaches. His work throughout the year was also pivotal in the Reserves finishing in 5th spot. To his team, specifically Damien Amesz who suffered another knee injury, your help with the 2s was much valued and the team would not have been as successful as it was if you did not devote the time that you did, thanks. Also to Gerry, thanks for all the Saturday night de-stressing sessions at the bar and/or the Windsor, I have very much enjoyed your friendship in your short time at the club. Our A colts (Phil Scott division) replicated their performance of 2008 with a preliminary final loss, Drew Maddock, one year out of colts and nursing a knee recon, took the role on. His professionalism, football brain, attitude and commitment were traits that should not be possessed by someone of his age, he is a role model that more of our players should aspire to be like. Taking on arguably the most challenging coaching role in the club he accomplished the task better than any expected. Hopefully next year you are back to playing and at your best. Drew was assisted throughout the season by Grant Edmunds, Grant was a very valuable member of the A colts team and his work throughout the year did not go unnoticed, thanks to both of you. Andrew Jakawenko continued in his role as E Grade coach, your efforts over this season, along with your team manager Jordan Edmondson were appreciated, to Troy Jeffs, who filled in coaching while Jako was away in South Africa, thank you for all your efforts. The E Reserves were again coached by Trent Cooper, finally a Senior Premiership player and coach, it is fantastic to see you get the rewards towards the end of your playing career; it was great sharing the experience with you and I thank you for your work with the 4s and the opportunity to play in the Grand Final. The Brett Jones Colts were coached by me so no point thanking myself, but I will thank all those that helped out throughout the season, Scott Goldsmith, Peter Van Noort, Glenn Walker (and in particular Robbie and Dougie). Without all the coaches and managers the games would not go ahead. With the club looking to expand to a 5th senior team next season it is imperative that anyone with aspirations to coach put their hand up and have a go, the role of team manager is not a too daunting task but is required, anyone can fulfil the position it’s just a case of being willing to help out, if you see a position that may need to be filled you just have to ask any committee person or coach, the more volunteers the better. To our other volunteers that helped out through the year, firstly my committee, Trent Cooper was active in the role of Football manager again, this role is continually being better defined (as it was a new position in 2009) and Trent completed anything asked of him professionally. Tom Evans had his first year as Treasurer, I’m sure it

was a big learning experience, the club truly is in debt (is this some kind of joke? Ed.) to you for all your work this season, hopefully you will be keen to stay in the job for a few more years. Dennis “Boo” Marshall, our reluctant Registrar, you did a great job getting the clearances and registrations through. Boo prefers one job at the club, and that’s Stats Man. As a favour to me he took on the role of Registrar this season; I thank you for all the time you put in. Mark Hayter, our sponsorship coordinator, continues to do a mountain of work and is the major driving force behind the clubs financial position. H we are all extremely grateful for all the work you do. The second year of the Bar/Social committee was a great success; the guys were more autonomous in the role which was a load off the Executive Committee. Cameron Taylor and Michael Roberts were great spearheads for the committee and all involved did a mountain of work for our functions through the year, the Cocktail party at the WA Rowing Shed was a highlight. To the other volunteers that take the time out of their Saturdays to help out, specifically Rod “Rocket” Phillips, the amount of work you do in managing all the home games while running the BBQ is phenomenal, it is also a major load off my mind on a Saturday to know that you are in charge, thanks. To Lauren, all your work in the kitchen this year has been very much appreciated, without all your work we would have been in a very difficult position, I know it can be frustrating when some of the guys don’t show the respect or gratitude that they should but know that the club appreciates everything you have done over the last 2 seasons. To the players, specifically Morgan Cooper A Grade Association Medallist and Dustin May A Colts Association Medallist, fantastic individual achievements for both of you, it is also fantastic that as a club we have won the A Grade Association medal for three years running, also as a club we have had players in the top 3 of at least 4 grades in the medal count for the last two years. To our State representatives – Chad Forsythe (U23s), Michael Patching (U23s) Aaron Gooden (U19s) and Martin Edmunds (U19s) congratulations on being selected in the State teams. To the 4 stars, what a year, minor premiers and then capping a great year off with a flag, it’s been a long time coming the club is proud of everyone that took the field, to the guys that missed out, James Jubb, Tim Shakespear, Michael Roberts, Matt Parker and Clay Bland, it’s tough being left out of any team but nothing is harder than being left out of a grand final team (I have been there), all you can do is give it a crack next year. I would also like to thank the club sponsors, specifically our major sponsor Pheonix Insurance Brokers and Glenn Walker, Gulls continued involvement as major sponsor is much appreciated. Our platinum sponsor, The Broken Hill Hotel and Phil Zoite, your sponsorship over the last few years is also greatly appreciated. To all our other sponsors, thank you all very much, the players are indeed indebted to you, with it costing the club on average $600 per player to get our teams out there, and the club only charging $110 for colts and $200 for seniors. The amount of sponsorship that you give is of great benefit to all, once again thank you. To the players and supporters of the mighty Wesley Curtin Amateur Football Club, it had been 10 long years without a Premiership, a record that we will not be repeating, but the drought was broken, and how did it feel. I know that the players were ecstatic, the spectators at the game were ecstatic, and all the supporters that couldn’t make it were ecstatic. The desire to win should be something that is driving us towards that ultimate goal, the desire to win should also be driving our commitment toward the same goal, everyone needs to start believing that they are a part of something special, everyone also needs to start doing the hard work required to achieve the ultimate goal. Our focus needs to be on winning Premierships. And finally, to Sarah, once again you have sacrificed your time, both in giving to the club as a volunteer and also in not having me around at home most nights of the week. I appreciate that you give me the opportunity to represent the club as president. It’s been a long six years, your sacrifice is noble and you ask for nothing i n return, I am truly lucky to have you. Thanks to the club for giving me the opportunity to be President for the last six years, looking back to 2005 we really have come a long way, from a powerful B Grade club through to our infancy back in A Grade, we have not done anything in half measures and have worked hard through the last six years both on and off the field, whether it be securing our liquor license through to making improvements on the club rooms. I have enjoyed every moment at the club and will continue to enjoy being involved, it has been very rewarding watching the club grow but it is at this time that I stand down as President. Once again I thank you all for the opportunity, and hope that the club will move forward in the years to come. Dean Diamond President

EARL SPALDING

NOT QUITE GOOD ENOUGH would probably best describe season 2010 for the Wesley Curtin A Grade side. In another very even year, except for Premiers North Beach (who continue to raise the bar in terms of A grade standards), we needed to win as many close games as possible and have our best players available to finish top three, to have a realistic chance of September success. Unfortunately the stats will tell you we lost 7 games by less than 2 goals and only won 3 games by the same margin. We also had a lot of our better players unavailable for varying reasons throughout the season and in particular for some, the above mentioned close losses. The end result was a lot better than I anticipated, when our practice match form, (which included a 25 goal plus hammering by Whitford) suggested we’d be in for a fight for A grade survival. A lot of the more experienced Wesley Curtin faithfuls suggested I not look too much into preseason form, however losing the first 2 games, albeit in a lot closer fashion, did nothing to ease my nerves. We then travelled to Whitford in round 3 and against all odds managed to get our season back on track with one of the best wins of the season. We lost 2 key defenders for extended periods early in the game, under the blood rule (special thanks to Doctor Peter McCarrey for his efforts in stitching significant head wounds) and trailed by a couple of goals at ¾ time, but managed to run over the top of them to record a gutsy 3 point win. The confidence we gained from this and subsequent wins enabled us to string together six victories in a row and head the table going into our round 9 game against North Beach. One of the wins in this sequence, away against Mt. Lawley, was arguably the best football we played all season and it was no coincidence that it was also probably the best team we fielded all year. The much anticipated clash with North Beach turned out to be a fizzer, especially after ¼ time, when despite having home ground advantage, we were comprehensively outplayed in most facets of the game. Trailing by 10 goals early in the last quarter we managed to get some pride back, kicking the last 5 goals of the game, but it served as a timely reminder of how much work still needed to be done. It was at this juncture of the season that things started to go awry. Jesse, our number 1 ruckman, left for 6 weeks to the World Cup in South Africa. Our skipper, Tayls was still away for another week in Europe and I received a call from our gun forward Dawesy, to tell me that he had a stress fracture in his foot and would be unavailable for at least 6 weeks, but probably longer (it turned out to be a season ending injury). I nearly drove off the road into a tree.

yearbook_layout_16082011_final.indd 6

We lost the next 2 games by under a goal, after leading late in both encounters and then had to front up to Wembley, with 18 players unavailable for senior selection. The fact that we comfortably won this game, albeit against a side that ended up being relegated, shows that we do have the depth of talent at the club. We followed this up with a close loss to TA’s and wins against Mt Lawley and Stirling to effectively mean with 3 games left, we needed 1 win to finish in the top 5 and return to finals action. As I’ve come to learn this year, we tend not to do things the easy way at WC, for despite leading at various stages of the next 2 games against Uni and North Beach we managed to lose both narrowly and meant we entered the last game against North Freo at home in a virtual mini elimination final. Although they couldn’t make the finals, they came out and played like men possessed and we had to pull out all stops and rely upon a little help from our “friends” in white/orange to get across the line in a nail biter, by 3 points. The Elimination final, against Uni away, couldn’t have started better, kicking the first 3 goals of the game and appearing in control across most positions on the ground. However, a fortunate bouncing goal to Uni against the flow of play, right on the ¼ time siren signalled a huge shift in our fortunes. A drop off in our intensity, injuries to key players and a ridiculous red card to Marty all conspired to have us trailing by 2 goals at ¾ time and despite some early last quarter heroics to draw level, we eventually went down by 9 points, bringing an end to our season. 54 players graced the field in our top side this year, which must be some sort of record and was more to do with player unavailability than injury. The upside to this is that we were able to expose a number of players to A grade footy that otherwise wouldn’t have been given the opportunity and most of them showed that given a bit more hard work and dedication they can certainly become regulars. Whilst I don’t like to individualise in a team environment, I think our trophy winners warrant a mention. Our best and fairest winner, Gravy, typifies the spirit all coaches look for in a player. He led our clearance and tackle stats and his late goal against North Freo, where he won the ball at a forward 50 stoppage and virtually willed it through for a goal, not only summed up his value to the team but how much team success means to him. He finished top ten in all our stats, including ruck hit outs and flips a mean beer coaster as well. Coops was a very close runner up and our only player to feature in every game this year. Time and time again he came up with clutch plays when we needed someone to step up and he was duly rewarded winning the A Grade

to improve as he matures and I believe he displays the traits of a future leader of the club.

playing B colts, doing the stats or cooking on the BBQ, he’ll find something else to do to help around the club.

Tayls came in third, despite missing 3 games during the middle of the season, and he continues to lead by example putting his body on the line time after time and giving us great drive from the back half. You could never question his endeavour and desire for team success.

I was fortunate to also have a good mate of mine and another past legend help out with the team manager’s role. Spud couldn’t get down until round 3, which coincided with the start of our 6 wins in a row and it was almost worth getting beaten to wipe the smug grin off his face. Thanks also to Duff for helping out in a similar capacity.

Our fourth place getter, Stanners became a permanent fixture with us via the Perth Football Club. At the beginning of the season, myself and Trent Cooper visited the PFC with a view to developing a mutually benefiting relationship that would see them send down some players that missed out on selection and we’d play them in our league side. We never dreamed we’d get such an early return for our efforts. Luke’s pace really added to our midfield and his line breaking runs and penetrating left foot kicks made him a valuable member of our side. Our fifth place getter, Nesti typifies the whole team. Immense potential, but needs to work a lot harder on the track and get his fitness levels up to a standard that will enable him to perform at the level I know he can. He has the ability to be one of the best players in the comp or he can be satisfied with being just a good average player. I look forward to seeing his attitude early next year. Two other players that I’d like to mention and thank are Dawesy and Pents. I’ve already mentioned Dawesy’s untimely injury, but he didn’t let this end his involvement at the club and he took on the responsibility of Boardman as well as helping out with the forwards for the remainder of the year. Pents likewise was cut down with a collarbone injury in round 1 and he also became involved helping out with running duties. This just shows the quality of the guys and I’m certainly looking forward to seeing them both back out there terrorising opposition backmen next year. On the subject of running, I’d like to thank my resident runner Shaun Murdoch, for all his help during the year. It was great to get a past legend of the club (his words, not mine) back involved and he certainly added a bit of colour every Saturday. I look forward to seeing him front up at Harmony Reserve in his usual sartorial splendour when we face off with Maddington next year. A big thanks also, to the best stats team in amateurs. Boo’s passion for the club is unrivalled and his attention to detail with his stats on match day as well as during the week and preseason makes my job a lot easier. I look forward to the day the club finally achieves A grade success, just to see the reaction of this man.

Thanks also to Gnomey for his support and advice during the year in his role as assistant coach. It is always great to have a calming influence in the box and Gnomey provided this along with guiding the midfield, which is always a difficult task. I must also congratulate all the other coaches on their seasons, in particular Coops on his long awaited premiership success and Drewy on guiding a group not much younger than himself into a preliminary final. Hopefully he’s back up playing in the A’s next year once his knee allows him to. Gerry also deserves special mention for his efforts with the A reserves. I don’t think I’ve met such a positive person as Gerry and this certainly rubbed off on me during the year. He never let player unavailability get him down, even when we had 18 unavailable for the Wembley game, as he saw it as an opportunity for someone else to shine. Finally I must thank three people who’s efforts keep this great club going. Rocket for everything he does on home match days. He’s a tireless worker around the club who wishes nothing more than club success as a reward for his efforts. Diamo, who in his capacity as President, has been a wonderful support to me during my first year at the club. I can’t recall him knocking back any reasonable request for equipment or help in any shape or form and his humour during team announcements and trophy presentations is a highlight of the week. H, for among a raft of things, convincing me that taking on the job as coach would be a rewarding and enjoyable experience. Hopefully in years to come we’ll look back on season 2010 as a watershed year in the history of the club. Not so much for our on-field results, which were encouraging at times but largely frustrating, but more for the fact that our playing group finally realised that talent without application doesn’t cut it in A grade. See you all in February!!!

GERRY MABARRACK

Late in 2009 I was contacted by Trent Cooper and asked to consider taking on the position of coaching the colts at Wesley Curtin this year. After much deliberation I decided that the magnitude of the role wasn’t within my capacity due to work and family commitments. Fortunately Trent persisted and wanted me to consider coaching the A reserves as there was an increased focus at the club on youth development for the season. After a few years on the coaching sidelines the itch to coach again and the prospect to improve as a coach by working with Earl Spalding was sufficient for me to agree to become a Tiger. After all having grown up in Adelaide as a Glenelg supporter it sort of felt like I was returning home! I recall getting home the night after the second training session I attended and mentioning to my wife Chris how welcome the players had made me feel. The year showed me that their amicable nature was truly genuine and allowed me to finish the year feeling that I had got my coaching mojo back. I hope to repay everyone at the club for that in the coming years. The season certainly was full of highs and lows. No doubt the greatest low came at training on the Thursday night prior to the Stirling game. Damo had enabled me to transition into the coaching position on a number of levels. I can’t say enough of how this young man impresses me as a totally selfless individual. I was as excited about his return and watching him play as I was of any event during the year. That dream was unfortunately shattered for all that night at training when he crashed to the turf having re-torn his anterior cruciate ligament. In typical fashion he maintained his commitment to his assistant coaching role without any hint of dwelling on his own misfortune. You have a maturity many years ahead of your age buddy. Thanks for the year it has been a pleasure getting to know you. Our highs were numerous and perhaps none greater than game four of the season away against Wembley. The 3s and 4s had a bye that day and bussed it out to Henderson to watch the games. When they arrived they were a bit stunned to see the scoreline at Wembley 45 to Wesley Curtin 9 midway through the second quarter. In a pulsating comeback our young team ground away until they finally hit the lead in the last quarter only to be headed again. A last minute goal secured an outstanding victory by the barest of margins. We had set our season on its way. After being 6 and 2 with four away wins, a top 3 spot beckoned. Again though, after giving North Beach 5 goals head start another Houdini performance was required. This time we fell 3 points short. A five goal headstart to CBC away the following week was successfully retrieved with our best footy of the season in the second quarter that day when we booted seven goals to zip. A disappointing loss the following week at home to Whitfords put our top 3 aspirations in doubt at 7 and 4.

yearbook_layout_16082011_final.indd 9

Midseason Uni break and injuries prevented us from getting our best side on the park. This provided a number of opportunities for players to push up and get a taste of Ressies football and assisted us in getting 63 players through the side for the year. Despite some tremendous character displayed we were rolled by 3 points by Wembley at home and by 30 away to TA’s. The return of personnel assisted in wins against Mt Lawley and the lowly Stirling. One win from the final three games would ensure we stilled played finals. This never eventuated as we went down by 1 point to Uni and 5 points to North Fremantle punctuated by a 10 goal defeat by a quality North Beach team. Fortune smiled upon us with other results and we snuck in to 5th with 9 wins and 9 losses. The players put their poor run of form behind them in a tremendous first quarter against an in form Whitford’s in the elimination final. Our 3 goal to 1 lead was whittled away in the second term that day and when the rain arrived in the third term we were outclassed and trailing by 8 goals to 4. A late third quarter goal gave us some hope at the last break. The final quarter of that game still feels like yesterday. As a coach I have rarely enjoyed watching a side play as much as I watched our boys in the final quarter of that match. Four consecutive goals in 15 minutes of total domination saw us 7 points clear with a bit over 5 minutes to play. That day, however, fortune would desert us and the cruellest of losses by 5 points after the final siren put our season in mothballs. Just coming to grips with the fact it was over was a challenge in itself. To look back on the year as a lost opportunity would undermine the positives of the season. Numerous players developed sufficiently to get a crack in the A’s which at the end of the day is our primary objective. Our young group will only get better at making decisions under pressure in close games which will hopefully turn some of those four losses by less than a goal into a few wins next year. We have a core group of experienced leaders that have helped the team overcome their poor starts from earlier in the year and I believe we have a committed group of individuals that want to achieve success and are prepared to make some sacrifices to achieve it. I look forward to next year in anticipation of that. Congratulations to Size and Bones on their winner and runner up efforts in the B&F and for the help and support they both provided to me throughout the season along with the Willo brothers, Benno and Butch. I’ll catch you again at the Windsor one Friday night no doubt Size! Mentions also go to our best team man Tim Brunner for the excellent shutdown roles he consistently delivered to the team from round nine onwards and Jackson Dennis for his determination to push himself harder which was ultimately rewarded with not just a spot in the 1s but him playing some very good football at that level. I hope his achievement along with Patesy

and Feasel creates higher aspirations for the numerous other players who were fortunate to get opportunities in the A grade as well as the colts coming through next season to play at the highest level to which they are capable. To the rest of the young brigade many of whom I have coached from as young as under 9s it was my pleasure to be involved with you this year. Decide what you want to achieve with your footy so we as a coaching group can help you get there. A special mention for our captain Sam Lambert (aka Slug) in his first year of captaincy. You led from the front mate with your head always over the ball. You pushed through injury to get back on the field when we were struggling for form and you were always there whether playing or not and whether it was attending Saturday presentations or Thursday team selection. I appreciate the commitment you brought to the table this year and what success we did achieve as a group was in no small part due to you. Thanks to Earl for the comradeship, tuition, support, Thursday night beer chats and stories of Vietnamese KGB busts. It was really enjoyable working with you this year and I look forward to doing the same again next year. Thanks to Dymo and the Saturday night counselling sessions at the Windsor. I’ve enjoyed our brief friendship to date and look forward to many more years of it. What you do for this club is amazing. Thankyou to Rocket, Boo and ‘H’ for the tremendous work you also do for the club and the positive sentiment you have regularly been willing to share throughout the year. around and helping during our games and the 1s. To my mate of 15 years so far, Richard Appleton, who I have slowly been weaning off Union and educating him previously in all things purple and now yellow and black, thanks for your help with running, board duties and management. The guys all appreciated your involvement. Who would have thought we would end 2010 known as a competitive Beer Pong team! To Maba thanks for coming across with me this year. It’s not an easy thing to change clubs or play in a team the old man coaches, especially when you get fined every week for being the coach’s son. You handled it all well and played some pretty good football along the way. I hope you enjoyed yourself at least half as much as I did. Deep gratitude goes to Chris and my two girls Keely and Sian for the time they give up with me to enable me to be involved at the club. Your support on game day makes my involvement worthwhile win, lose or draw. Finally thanks to TA for suggesting I should coach at the club and Coops for his persistence at getting me down there this year. I was really thrilled that you and Dymo got your Premiership with the 4 star boys this year and the clubs first flag for a decade. Wesley Curtin is a great football club that I feel privileged to be part of and I look forward to still being a part of it when it achieves the ultimate level of success that the current players, coaches, support team and supporters desire. TROY“BILBO” JEFFS

D1 LEAGUE Where do I start? The season opener against Uni showed lots of promise for the season ahead after managing a very comfortable win against one of the top sides of the previous years. I thought to myself “this season looks like it’s going to be a very enjoyable one”. Unfortunately, I was wrong. After losing many of the players to the two’s in the following round, it showed just how tough our year was going to be? Following round one we were clearly outclassed by TA’s and North Freo, going down by 14 goals and 13 goals respectively. Following our two big losses in rounds two and three, we came up against one of the top sides in North Beach. We always knew it was going to be a very tough ask to get over the line but some of the performances from the boys were outstanding. Coming up from the 4’s that week was Strawsy and he showed just how much he wanted to be there by taking out the best on ground award for the day. Strawsy is one of those players that doesn’t look/sound the way he plays (I mean that in the nicest way possible). He is very softly spoken and seems to keep things to himself a bit but when you get to know him he’ll open up. If you give him a job to do on the field, you can guarantee he’ll take the bull by the horns and run with it like his life depends on it. Another of our top performers for the day was Mettas. Here’s a bloke who gives it his absolute all, week in week out. Other good performers that day were Gilbo and David Faletti. We ended up going down by 19 points in the end but it really felt like we had won that day. If there was no scoreboard, the spectators sitting on the sidelines would’ve thought we had it in the bag. The boys never gave up and that’s something I’ve tried to instill in them since day one. No matter how far behind or in front you are, give nothing but your all! Rounds 5 and 6 saw us go down by 7 and 8 goals to CBC and Whitfords. Doogs played his first game for the club that week and I can’t say I’d ever seen a guy hit the ball with as much pace and aggression as he did that day. This would see Doogs straight up into the A Reserves side the following week and hold his spot there for the remainder of the season. The way he attacked the ball that day had an effect on the playing group and everyone began to lift. In the end we just couldn’t come back from the 5 goal head start we’d given them in the first quarter. Round 7 saw us lose one of our key players in our side and our Captain for the year in Humper. In the last quarter he did his ACL and unfortunately that was his season done. We missed his talk around centre half forward and as much as they tried, the boys just couldn’t get over the line for him. We went down by 17 points on the day but it wasn’t from lack of trying. We played Collegians again two rounds later and finally got one back on them getting over the line by 24 points. Unfortunately I was in Melbourne for my sister’s wedding and missed the boys getting up. Big thanks to Mettas for taking the coaching role that week and getting the boys up. Having lost 6 out of our 18 games for the season by fewer than 4 goals just showed me the talent we have as a footy club and the places we are going.

yearbook_layout_16082011_final.indd 11

The last half of the season was tough and saw some players really step up to the occasion to do whatever they could to get us over the line. These players included Timmy Scott, Jamie Powers, and Grant Metcalf (Vice Captain, turned Captain). This would see these three take out the honours of Fairest and Best, Runner Up and Third Fairest and Best. Although losing 8 games on the trot you could be rest assured that these three players would be giving it their all no matter whether we were in front or behind. The last game was played at home against TA’s who had beaten us in the previous two encounters for the year. This week was different. We had nothing to lose. From the first bounce we never looked like being beaten. We started strong, and we finished strong. Although the year was not a successful one on the scoreboard, I can honestly say that I have enjoyed my first taste of coaching. I learnt a lot about myself and the blokes that played in my side every week. The 3’s had seen 95 players come through the ranks throughout the year and I think this is a record for the club. Of these 95 guys, 52 of them had poled votes over the course of the season. That tells me that although we had been plagued with injuries and the loss of players to other clubs, there is enough talent behind the scenes in the lower grades to keep us moving along in the direction that we need to become a successful club. I can now understand just how hard it is to coach a footy side and what it takes week in week out to put a playing group on the field. In saying this, Rocket, hats off to you this year mate, you have been there for all grades and given us 100% support week in week out. It was always going to be a big job filling Dymo’s shoes but I think you’ve handled yourself and the job very well. I look forward to seeing you around the club next year working as hard as you did this year. Time to thank some people I guess. I should probably start with the most important person in my life, my fiancé Liana. I thank you very much Li for all the tough times you’ve had to endure sitting at home alone, waiting patiently (mainly impatiently) and watching the clock tick by as I sit at the club whether it be a Tuesday, Thursday or even a Saturday night. Seeing me stress on Friday nights and Saturday mornings as I await that next phone call or message from Gerry that says“Hey mate, need another player, who you got for me”. You are still number one in my eyes and always will be. A big thanks to Johnny Edmo for running my board after we lost Humper in round 7. Having Edmo was really helpful this year as he assisted me in making some vital moves during games and being my eyes off the field whilst I was trying to get a kick myself. Thanks Edmo your assistance this year mate has been greatly appreciated. I can only hope that you get your knee right and have a great pre-season ready for a stellar year in 2012. Humper, having you in the side each week mate was fantastic. You looked set for a great year and really led from the front. Although you enjoyed giving some of our own players an absolute spray, your voice was highly missed after

Most Determined: Daniel O’Loughlin Most Consistent: Tom Evans you were struck down by injury. Mettas, what can I say about you mate? Not only were you my manager this year, and a great one at that, you really took on the role of Captain after we lost Humper. You might’ve been the oldest player out there this year but it definitely didn’t show from the way you’d put your body on the line for your teammates week in week out. I can only hope that you’ll be back next year to pull on the boots and run out next to me because your one of those players, who like me, wears their Wesley Curtin football jumper with the utmost pride and I would have you in my side any day of the week. A big thanks also goes out to Loz our physio who was there week in week out strapping the boys, rubbing them up (I mean down), whilst also taking on the role of time keeper. I’m pretty sure that if Ringer and Timmy Scott hang around the club next year, you can guarantee that Loz will be back, for a perv that is. Gerry, thanks for all your support this year mate and helping me through the tough season that it was. If I needed anyone to talk to about my game that day and find some further ways of getting through to the boys, you were it. You helped me to see the positive side of it all. I look forward to seeing you back at the club next year. To Chris, sorry for the late nights back at your place playing darts until all hours of the morning, I hope I didn’t overstay my welcome. P.S. I’ll see you next weekend as we’ve got a big tournament on at your place . Don’t tell Liana. Earl, you’re a credit to this club and seeing the way you take hold of the players at training gives me a lot of insight and inspiration as to how to handle my boys. You’re the right man for the job and it’s been great working with you. This club will be a force to reckon with next year and the likes of yourself, Gerry, Coops, Dymo, Jako and Drewy will see all 5 sides rise to the occasion. Thanks for all your support this year. A further thanks to everyone around the club who has given me the opportunity to coach this year and provided support when I needed it. Thanks to Rocket, Dymo, Coops, Jako, Drewy, Grant, H, Boo and everyone who’s involved in the committee. I’m terribly sorry if I’ve missed anyone else. I honestly can’t thank everyone involved with this club enough and I look forward to seeing you all next year which promises to be a big one across all grades. Cheers Jeffa

Trophy Winners Fairest and Best – Timmy Scott: Timmy showed all season why he has taken out the Fairest and Best award this year by his sheer hardness at the football and wanting it more than anyone else. He was a vital part of our side this year and without him I don’t think we would’ve won as much ball out of the centre or around the stoppages. When he was rewarded with a birth in the two’s, it showed just how much we missed having him in the middle.

Runner Up – Jamie Powers: Jamie had a fantastic year. It wasn’t until Lee RB made his way into the two’s that Jamie really started to show his capabilities. I moved Jamie into the ruck full time after Lee RB’s departure and it was probably the best move I’d made all year. Jamie doesn’t just ruck, but he wins the ball at ground level and works very hard around the whole ground and can take a strong mark. I would say that Jamie was one of the most vital players in my side this year and we would’ve been lost without him.

Third Fairest and Best – Grant Metcalf: If I could rely on anyone in defense this year it was my Vice Captain and Manager Mettas. No matter how big or fast his opponent was he would always be right next to them making sure they never got an easy possession, whilst also getting a fair bit of it himself and leading the way out of defense. It was also great to see him kick a goal in the last game when I decided to put him up forward for a quarter.

Most Determined – Daniel O’Loughlin: You’re probably wondering who is Daniel O’Loughlin, well it’s Strawsy. Strawsy is one of the hardest workers in my side. Although his fitness was not up to his own standard at the start of the season, he would always ask me to run him into the ground in the middle so that he could pick his fitness up. He always wants to better himself week in week out and his determination on and off the field this year was second to none.

Most Consistent – Tommy Evans: Tommy is guaranteed to kick 2 goals a game for you minimum each week. Some weeks he’d only have a handful of touches but you can be sure that 2 or 3 of those touches were goals. He had a couple of games this year in which he’d kicked 4 or more goals too. Unfortunately with the guys we had in the middle and around the stoppages, this caused him to go under the radar a little and probably didn’t pole as many votes as he would have liked to. If you’ve got a player who can kick 2 goals for you every week though, then he is doing his job. He may not think of himself as a vital part of the team but without him up forward it made it very hard to put a score on the board.

(Wow that went on for a bit - Ed.)

D1 RESERVES It was always going to be a hard task defending the Premiership, especially with so many of last years flag winners moving on. Some retired, some went back to playing in the League side, others just went..... Numbers were good during preseason, just not all at once! A fair number of new blokes were filtering down to training, and things were looking promising. Our intra club and practice games were played with some great endeavour. We were still waiting for Christie to get his 37 touches in a (League) game but this was yet to appear. The year started off with a fairly handy (stacked) side v Uni and we came away with the chocolates. Some a few more than others.... If only we didn’t have a League or reserves side this year and it would’ve been back to back for sure! As the season progressed we won 3 out of our first 4 matches and were looking good. 8 changes to the side seemed to be working, but 12 or 13 changes started to unsettle the boys a bit. I think.....

the US. One bloke who was transforming himself was Preseason Robbo. His ability to hang around for more than 2 weeks was amazing, somehow finding time to be at the club during the middle and end of the season. His name change to Midseason Robbo then to Lateseason Robbo! By the end of the year we were just shy of a finals berth, but cracked the ton with (I think) 103 players pulling on a jumper for the team from 17 matches (1 forfeit). We also made a half century of vote getters in the BnF count, with 55 or so players notching up votes. In what was the closest and lowest vote counts in memory, Parso was the eventual winner on 34, with Cack 2nd on 29 and Archie (Parsons) 3rd on 25. Great effort by the boys who stuck it out through thick and thin. A big thankyou goes out to all my helpers throughout the year: Dunny, Chummy, The Moir brothers, The Mouth and Wovs, Gooch and everyone else who put their hand up to help out. A massive thanks goes to Drewy for letting me pinch so many of his players for the 5ths.

Injuries started to take their toll, most occurring on the footy field but some after Cheers for the year and look forward to a hours (Wovo). E2 GRADE 2011 saw the introduction of the 5th senior team at Tigerland, showcasing a mix of youth and experience with the inclusion of the odd club legend. TRENT COOPER It is fair to say that the Colts Season 2010 started off as a very uncertain season as there was no coach appointed until about a fortnight before the first game. Despite this due to a huge recruiting effort by the likes of Boo, Duffy and Maysie at various outlets such as Curtin and Rossmoyne Junior Football Club we had 31 new colts at the beginning of the season and this in itself looked quite promising.

season of which some were small such as boys backing into packs or picking up each other off the ground or running over to help each other in a scuffle all of which I believe are valuable traits that must be instilled in not just a team but a club in order to see the larger highlights such as beating TA’s for the second time in the season in the pouring rain at Eftel stadium or Wembley 174 to 1 at home which were both some of the best team based victories I’ve ever seen.

I was more than happy to take the colts for training in the preseason as caretaker whilst the club tried to appoint a permanent coach. Luckily for me they couldn’t find a coach for the colts and I therefore became coach by default. I was quite excited and anxious about this as I already knew most of the boys from last year but was unsure as to how they might respond and if I was up to the challenge as a first year coach. All of these issues soon dissipated, as with the help of all the club representatives such as H, Rocket, Boo, Duffy, Josh all the various coaches and in particular Diamo and my assistant coach Grant Edmunds, my job was made much easier and enjoyable.

Although I cannot mention all of our highlights I will remember them, as I hope the colts of 2010 will also, I hope all of the second year colts enjoyed the season enough to hang around the club and force the seniors out. I believe you all have the potential to play at least reserves in the near future and if we could all stay together as a group it would be a great advantage and make for a stronger club, as competition between grades is the key. To all the first year colts I also hope you come back next year and finish off what we as a group started as I believe we do have unfinished business.

I think the entire club was a little uncertain as to how we were going to match up against other sides of the competition so we made it our mission to set a high level of fitness if nothing else early, this was not compromised throughout the season. Our Leadership group was announced prior to our first game Dustin May and Brendan Klemm were our captains and Martin Edmunds and Jesse Craig were our two vice captains. This lead us into our first game of which the uncertainty was only fuelled by losing our first two games to North Freo and CBC, but when looking back upon it we did have at least half of the team who had never played together and CBC went on only losing one game the entire home and away season. Finally in round 3 we had our first win as a team against Whitfords and here began a new found motivation for victory, as throughout the home and away season we won 13 of our 18 games, which is much improved on last years’ effort of only winning 5 games. We then lost again in round 6 to Mt Lawley which the boys learnt a very valuable lesson of complacency, a trait that must be completely removed from the club. Then again we got on the winners board taking on rivals UNI away and winning which was, of course a highlight and was probably one of the best games the boys played during the season. There were numerous highlights during the

A few more special mentions must be made as our Captain, Dustin May was awarded the Best and Fairest for the Phil Scott Colts and also won our vote count with runner up Sam Ready and second Runner up Sam Graham. I honestly believe the Wesley Curtin Club is well on their way to becoming a dominant force within the WAAFL and it is most definitely a club I don’t regret joining. I have learnt more this year about footy than any other, there is no doubt about that so I thank Diamo for giving me the opportunity, and to all others I look forward to seeing you next year and even more so playing in the same team as you! Cheers Drew Maddock

2011 wasn’t a great year for the Brett Jones colts, the negatives; only registering 2 wins, forfeiting 2 games for the year, a general lack of commitment from the playing group and some significant season ending injuries to some young players. The positives were there but they were few, those being, our 2 wins for the year, only registering 2 forfeits, having a large proportion of 2nd colts play 1st colts and being a part of the 1st colts Finals campaign. On field our year can probably be summed up very briefly, we had two wins in the first half of the season, against Whitfords and Wanneroo, and in the second half of the season we managed 2 forfeits and no wins, the most disappointing aspect of the forfeits was that one was against Wanneroo. We didhave anopportunitytoregister a coupleofwinslate in the season but it wasn’t to be, with the possibility of beating Whitfords the second time around alluding us and resigning us to the wooden spoon for the year. We also, through the in ability of Maddington to feild a colts side against the 1st colts late in the year, had the chance of beating Collegians (who finished 3rd on the ladder) and were buoyed by the inclusion of 7 first colts before the first bounce. We had a crack, but unfortunately fell late in the match, there was some light humour to come from the match, when late in the game Hobbsy decided to plant himself behind the goals to fetch the ball so that we could get play on quickly, in his haste he kicked the ball into the only tree between himself and the goals, and then proceeded to“trim” the tree with his mighty bulk. To the players, we did have some excellent performances on field through the year, our Fairest and Best winner, Mark Kong, had a great year, only missing a couple of games through the year Kongys consistency and good humour through the last two years have been an asset that the team will miss next season. Our Runner up Fairest and Best, Rhys Watkins, was probably the only player not to run in the 1st colts this year (due to the fact that he was home on Uni holidays), Watto had a great year in a multiple of positions throughout the season, he did put his hand up to play most spots on the ground and always gave a good account of himself.

really missing out after being away on Uni break during the middle of the year. Our next award is for Most Determined, Ian Seaborn, the smallest player on the field is often the one with the biggest heart, Ian definitely fits this bill. On many occasions this year Ian was in situations where he was outmatched, but regardless he took the challenge head on, he had a fine year, and as one of the players that has not a lot of experience playing, he can only grow from here. Our last award is the Coaches Award, this years winner is Scott Broad, Broady isn’t the most gifted player in the team but always listened to instruction and did everything to the best of his ability, it is also fair to say that his skill have developed significantly over the last two seasons. To all the players that put in for the 2nd colts this season, thanks for an enjoyable if not challenging year, well done to all those that played well enough to earn selection in the 1st colts, I feel that everyone was given a fair chance at playing as high as possible this year, and the fairest and best voting reflects that, given that our fairest and best only received one best on ground for the year shows that the players were being rewarded for best on ground performances by gaining selection in the 1st colts the following week. The football season wouldn’t be possible without the help and support of a lot of people, firstly to Nick Visser, captain of the team last year, Nick was invaluable as an assistant coach, many thanks. To Glenn Walker, once again the supply of boundary and goal umpires each week is appreciated, lets hope the arrangement can stay in place for a few years to come. To my brother Richie, thanks for your help as runner each week, you always provide a humours insite into the players. And finally to my wife Sarah, once again the sacrifice has been great, although not as significant as in past years, but still appreciated, the club and I are truely in debted to you, and great work on producing a future colt. So until next season, where we start our campaign to return to A Grade. Lets make sure we are fully committed to the task and that the stay in B Grade is only short lived. Cheers

Third in our count and winner of the Best Positional player award this year is Nick Clifford, Cliffo started the year in blistering pace setting very high standards in the preseason runs, he was unlucky not to be selected in the first colts from the outset but took on the challenges in the 2nd colts immediately, for some very solid performances he did gain selection in the 1st colts and held his spot well, only

Our network of sponsors continues to expand, and the Football Club and Past Players Association were the combined beneficiaries of in excess of $55,000 in cash sponsorship and $30,000 in goods and vouchers.

Phoenix Insurance Brokers

were the major sponsor of the club again this year, and it is fantastic to see Glenn Walker and his team down at the club supporting our teams on game day, in addition to their generous financial contribution. Thanks also to Phil Zoiti from Broken Hill Hotel who continued as a Platinum Sponsor this season. Our Gold Plus Sponsors (Min $2,000) enjoyed the additional benefits of this category including extra tickets to the lunch & boat trip, ground signage as well as promotion as “Sponsor of the Week” and the opportunity to present Best Players awards on a nominated Saturday night. Many thanks to the following companies who took up the “Gold Plus” package this year:

To all of our sponsors, the club hopes that you have enjoyed your association with the club this year and were able to gain a direct benefit for your businesses. At the very least, we trust you made the most of the Sponsors River Cruise and the Sportsmans Luncheon as our guests! As we build as a force in “A” Grade, your continued support is essential to our future success. The club would also like to make special mention of Mark “HiHo” Da Silva and his team at Concept Marketing for all of the time and resources that they have made available to us during the year, and which allow us to package and present ourselves in such a professional manner. Once again, thank you to all of our sponsors, and we encourage everyone to make every effort to support them at every opportunity. Mark Hayter Sponsorship Co-ordinator

Well another season has passed and the memory is once again a bit hazy. The Social Mad Dogs of 2010 wanted to make a big effort to pick up where we left off in ’09. With Big name recruits Jesse “Mr Perth” Wilson, Dustin “Mad Dog” Mayzie, Jako “No ‘C’ Jakowenko, Bones “Boner” Harman and the return of Social Stalwarts – Chummy, Dempo, Jordy and Tails: The cattle was there to throw some massive horrendous parties. 1st party off the ranks was the Second Annual Mexicana Tigerland Fiesta. We slotted this one in after round one and the turnout was glorious with over 120 punters dusting off there Ponchos to get loose. Coronas, Nachos, Tequila and Daiquiris were flowing till late with everyone getting involved. The after party got a little silly and by 3am and with vomit on the dancefloor, it was time to leave Mexico for another year. Hats off to Jako, Jesse, The Pres and the First Lady for getting down there early doors on the Sunday. Jako’s Reverse Raffle slotted in next and what a night it was! Dymo and his 25 cloves of garlic was probably a low point for his night. Broome ring-in Wattsy experienced the same pain that required a lot more than a pallet of PK to refresh that breath. Baked-Beans, goon, onions, milk and various other condiments to name a few were all slotted in at various parts of the evening for the daring to get back into the raffle. The final 10 were left and the opportunity arose to buy back in for $50 – The

yearbook_layout_16082011_final.indd 32

Pres almost backed up a win from last year however got pipped on the line by the ‘Killing it” syndicate made up of Robbie A, Jacqui A, Jesse and Tailz who took home the $1,500. Well done Jako for running the night and raising some good cash for the club. Next on the agenda was the most prestigious Tigerland tradition of them all - the Cocktail Party. The classy, sexy and sophisticated “A night at the Oscars” theme was decided and over 220 punters got on board for this one. With a new stylish venue overlooking Perth’s Swan River and a red carpet to match, spirits were high. Professional bartenders were shaking up fresh cocktails throughout with Perth’s best DJ duo dropping bombs to compliment. No naked lunges this year but well played to the crew who stuck around in attempt to make the place look like a rowing club again. Quiet Sunday was to follow. A smaller turnout than expected ensured that the 20 blokes in attendance had to get through all the beers and goon catered for 40. Catch-up Coinies, bar mat and thong kept the day alive. Special thanks to Rocket for cooking the snaggers. The beers and goon came out on top with 3 votes going to Chaddie, 2 votes Drewy and 1 vote to Drewy’s mate Turtle (looks like turtle from Entourage) who filled the bin up after his goon and egg skull. Tommy Schreoter and Klemmy worthy of a mention. Always a cracker of a day and we look forward to getting some bigger numbers next year!

SPRING BREAK! SPRING BREAK! SPRING SPRING! BREAK! SPRING BREAK! SPRING BREAK! The final instalment in the Social Mad Dogs calendar was definitely a keeper. Mayzie and Kelly transformed the club into Cancun and with kegs and college cups aplenty, we were in for a good old fashion college party. The official welcome to beer pong came this evening and has taken the club by storm. Didn’t quite get onto the flip cup and boat races but who needs them when you’ve just skulled 3 pints in pong??? This night was a belter and look for next years to be bigger and better!

Finally I’d like to thank the whole committee for all there assistance in putting on such glorious parties and lets hope our success off the field this year turns into success on the field next year. Cheers! Social Mad Dogs 2010

But let’s not forget the 4’s Grand Final win, a great day for the club and an even better night at the club. 3 extra trips to the bottlo to restock is a fair indication of how the premiership beer was tasting! It would be great to have at least one of these celebrations again next year and now the club has a taste of premiership success, there is no looking back.

This season’s financial results were disappointing with the club recording a substantial deficit. Whilst we increased revenue in some areas, we also lost in a number of others. Unfortunately we are not able to provide the Profit and Loss Report as normal as it is still being finalised. It will be available at the AGM. The deficit was mostly the result of further renovations to the clubrooms which cost just over $17,000; however there were a number of other expenses that were higher than our 2010 season, most notably the physio costs. However there were some positives in that our membership and ball fees were up and our sponsorship was on par with last year thanks to the hard work of Mark Hayter. One of the major expenses as mentioned was the cost associated with physiotherapy which was up substantially this year resulting from all of the injuries sustained. Hopefully this will be contained as the number of injuries within the club seemed unusually high this year. The other major cost was the renovations completed in the clubrooms earlier in the year including new windows and kitchen facilities which will be an asset to the club for many years to come. Fundraising from events was down on previous years, which was somewhat expected due to the quiz night and cocktail night being held at the clubrooms instead of external locations to save on costs, however the returns were still much lower than expected. Our wine sales were also disappointing after such a good effort last year – I believe Rocket still has 2 pallets at his house!

Once again the majority of our revenue for 2011 came through the hard work of Mark Hayter with sponsorship. The club has managed to close to $50,000 thanks to our sponsors this year so great work to “H” for organising them and a big thank you to our sponsors for their support to the club this year. On another positive note, membership fees were up on last year. Thanks again to all of the players for getting their fees in especially to everyone who paid early in the year. It really makes a big difference to our cash flow if fees are paid early. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the committee for their efforts this year especially Rocket, Mark Hayter, Dymo and Tayls, the social committee and all of the volunteers who helped throughout the year. Congratulations to the A-Colts for getting into the grand final, however as a club we do have a lot of work to do next year. Given our relegation to B-Grade and the financial deficit this year we need all of the players, family, and friends of the club to really get around next year to help get us back on track! Special thanks to Brendon Klemm for his assistance with the Treasury, it is a big job to do considering the size of this club and he has been a massive help to myself this season. Have a great break! We’ll see you all for the preseason 2012. Tom Evans Treasurer.

Our bar trading profit was down quite a lot on last year which could be partially attributed to the lower attendance at our fundraising events however even with this in mind we look to be substantially lower than expected, for year 2012 we will be looking to implement some tighter controls around cash at the bar and review our pricing to isolate how we managed to be so far below budget in this area.

The “best clubman” award is presented to an individual who makes a contribution to our club that is above that, which we as a club, could normally expect. It may be that their effort far exceed their designated role, or they have no official role, but make an outstanding contribution to the club, nevertheless. This award is named after such a person, “Mr. Geoffrey Crane”, and that endorsement signifies the very high regard the club, as a whole, places in this award.

The Wesley Curtin Football Club is proud to announce that the 2011 winner is Scott Hobbs

The club is proud that our most prestigious annual award this year goes to Scott Hobbs. Hobbsy has been involved as an unofficial volunteer for the last five years, during this time he has assisted the A grade team in various roles from Water boy through to his main role as stats caller for Boo. The amount of work that Hobbsy has done not only this season but also over the last five years have been in the realms of a committee member. His always willing to help attitude has been much needed around the club this year. Hobbsy, as such a young member of the club, and the youngest ever recipient of the best clubman award, has all the traits that many of our club members should share, he is an inspiration and should be a role model for our other club members, well done on the work this year and in the past few years, the club and its members do appreciate it.

COACH Trent Cooper Umpire Gavin Levitski

27/09/2011 11:28:37 PM

Forward Pocket - Parso Cleaned up the 4s Fairest and Best like too many chicken dinners. Has seen a very good pasture in the last few seasons and is starting to look more and more like a well fed version of Coops (huh?).

Full Forward - Y-Train Fantastic to see the Emirates import back in town, only just made it through customs though, but did have a stellar year once on the track, managed to play from 5s up to 3s and teased Gerry for selection in round 18, did manage to have his genitals knocked off by a player from Melville...

Other Forward Pocket - Kizza Was a standout performer at the colts pub crawl this year, managed to not get a taxi home but instead share a lift out to Wanneroo, managed to share a bit more than the lift and was rudely interrupted mid coitis. Jumped out a window and proceded to jump fences through Wanneroo with clothes under one arm. Fantastic effort and always worthy of selection in the All stars

Half Forward Flank - Drewy Fresh from his stint as colts coach last season, backed it up with the job as Assistant Coach/Manager for the A colts this year, earned selection for his managierial skills come grand final week, organising Hiltons physio appointment (which Hilton missed) promptly messaged Swanny to appologise with - “sorry swanny but Hilton is a bit of a space cadet” only to recieve the reply from Hilton stating“what are you doing Drewy you nuffy” excellent use of technology.

Centre Half Forward - Dawesy The last time a Cleo batchelor of the year was in the All stars was when boo made his charge for the title, Dawsey was a standout this year, is mainly picked so that we can invoke the father son rule for both his boys...

Other Half Forward Flank - Cunners Was recruited mid year by the opposition clubs, in the same coupe that Red was involved in, managed to almost break hutchys ankle at training, which was a master stroke and should be commended, was also in charge of the at loss raffles the club held this year “tickets are 1 for $1 or 5 for $3” how many tickets for $10 “25 should be right”

Wing - Dymo Another stellar year, managed about 5 games, none of which were quality, did have the record for the most sledges at team selections and presentations. Also picked because he may have to car pool half the colts in the team.

Centre - Gravy Three A grade Best and Fairests in a row, you would think that this would be enough to gain selection in the all stars, well you would be wrong, Gravy gains selection this year for the way that he out drank Hilton on the colts pub crawl, when Drew and Gravy (the two rangs) couldn’t drink Hilton under the table they decided that vodka depth charges in his pints would make it a lot easier, turns out they were right, nothing like cheating your way into the team...

Wing - Chad the Albino from North Beach This kid has it all, footy gear, hat, sunglasses, and about 50ltrs of sunscreen (Dunny can attest to that), what he also has that mostly everyone else at the club lacks is the ability to complete the TDO. The guys at yearbook HQ think hes a definite starter after all the abuse he cops from Dymo behind his back.

Half Back Flank - Bernard Hoogenboozem Picked mainly for his name, the guys at yearbook HQ had trouble just spelling two of his four names but here goes

Centre Half Back - Scobbs Was ruled out of the colts early this year after sustaing what looked like a broken ankle during a 5s game, tried to convince everyone that he took a hang when it looked more like he slipped on the skin off a frankfurt. Took up a tree loping business late in the year and was contracted to sort out some of the over growth behing the goals at Dalkeith Oval...

Other Half Back Flank - Hutchy Had a fantastic year up until Cunners go jealos and tried to break his ankle, wasn’t going to let this keep him from playing so went to great lenghts at the cocktail party to arrange extra physio sessions, did a far better job than Visser, who is the only guy in history to cock block himself.

Back Pocket Flank - Musca Upon reflection probably made a bad decision to join Drewy at his girlfriends WAPA party during the year, his timing was poor and upon ar noticed that it was more of a sausage party, was duly noted by the party goesr for his boyish good looks and was to dance a Collegians way...

Full Back What down a

yG a fantastic down back this year in the A Grade and A colts, although he did his best work going fiesta, the away rooms haven’t seen that kind of action for some time.

Back Pocket - Kong Picked in the team t ease the ethnic diversity, was a worthy winner of the 2nd colts FnB mainly for his dance moves whilst trying to sell candy on a saturday night, look to see him improving his green boots in the off season.

Ruck - Big Red Aut tic seletion the ruck this year, took on the role of club dentist using his size 12 boot to move Martins teeth across his face and half of south oval, upon first inspection the teeth were not in his head, upon 5th inspection of the oval they weren’t there either, after going to a better hospital they found his teeth in his head.

Ruck Rov - Trav Sayer Did it again, statched a best and fairest award for consistend dummys and the sound that his hammies make when he tears them. Has been going around the traps for sometime and is the only player that drinks Metamusal rather than Gatorade before a match.

Rover - Jeffa Mr Cliche, if you have a read of his long winded coaches report you will see what we are talking about, probably inspired the boys very well this year (which was reflected in the 3s 3 victories).

oach Trent Cooper Did a great job in coaching the 4s to a flag last year and the colts to a GF, also strapped the jumper back on for a glory game in Bakes 250th. Looked as fit as ever, only one bloke at the club fills a set of jumpers out better, you can refer to his photo earlier in the book.

Interchange Dymo Jnr - Picked up under the father son rule, hopefully with a bit of guidance we might be able to make a player out of this one. Dawes Jnr - Also picked up under the father son rule, romour has it that the boy has been placed into Murray Coopers custody so that he can have some chance of being able to kick straight...

Spud Harris - Made the team again for his ability to straighten up the side when we are going forward, not sure about having him on the bench with the two young fellas “baby the other white meat, get in my belly”

Unlucy to miss selection Cameron Taylor - Had a DJ gig so couldn’t make it Andrew Jakowenko - Had tickets to the Carlton match so couldn’t make it and 50 other blokes that were in Bali
