The Leaves That Covered Us
Evan Wingard ’24
These leaves were always meant to fall We never know when they might decide to go They drop from their tree to flutter amongst us all Maybe now it’s time for them to finally fly
They start to detach from their home on the tree We watch they as they first let go The world starts to wonder who they might be Until the wind starts to pick up its speed
This wind starts to blow faster and faster The leaves start to twirl into each other Maybe the rain might make them stick to a wall like plaster All we can do is watch them for hours
We can’t stop the wind from blowing We can’t stop the leaves from drifting away We can’t stop our minds from knowing We can’t stop our dreams becoming
What would this life mean if we were just a leaf Would all that matter be to look pretty till we wilt away Is our life just made out of sole belief Or is our life the only thing we have
