Cushing alumni and parents gathered in person for the first time since the pandemic began to resume the beloved tradition of Cushing Academy’s Annual Golf Tournament. More than 100 people attended the sold-out event on July 19 at the beautiful Ridge Club in Sandwich, Massachusetts. The tournament, which was canceled last summer, has raised more than $300,000 for Cushing’s Annual Fund and athletics programs since its inception in 2012.

This event brings together alumni, former parents, current parents, and friends of the Academy and our hockey programs. “It’s a true celebration of friendship, Cushing, and of course, golf!” said Head of School Dr. Randy Bertin.

Bobby Orr and Ray Bourque P ’04,’09 played on Team 1 with George Sullivan P’11 and his sons, Mike and Brian. George and the Sullivan family were Gold Sponsors of the event, as were Mark Warsofsky P’07, ’09 and the Warsofsky family and M&M Transport. Mark and his son Ryan ’07 played on Team 2. J.R Butler ’04 contributed as a Silver and Bronze Sponsor, and led Team 5 with his father, John Butler P’04.

Despite foreboding clouds, the weather favored the tournament with a delightful day on the fairways. The event also included a cocktail reception with live entertainment provided by Jamie Wyeth, a former faculty member and Cape Cod musical mainstay. A raffle featured signed hockey memorabilia and a stunning, handcrafted quilt. “The golf tournament demonstrates that Cushing is truly a special community that parents and students are proud to be a part of,” said Scott Brazis P ’22. “It was a great day from the shotgun start to the final putt.”
