is 20 years old in May! We both want to say thank

you for putting up with us so long!!! We’re often most aware of the things we do wrong or forget to do…but we know that the office facility has been and continues to be useful to the clergy, youth workers, treasurer and other officers – as well as everyone in the parish and beyond. That’s our aim and our hope! Thank you for your patience & encouragement through all these years! J&P

Russ Parker

Rev Dr Russ Parker will be speaking at our Holy Week services in St Senan’s, Inniscarra at 8 pm (Monday to Friday evenings). ‘I am an

Anglican priest and have been involved for many years in historical forgiveness in places such as Ireland and Africa. I was ordained in the Church of England in 1981 and have been Director of Acorn Christian Healing Foundation since 1995, which exists to resource and educate the church in the Christian Healing Ministry. I travel extensively throughout the UK and abroad, lecturing and teaching on listening, healing, forgiveness and reconciliation and am the author of a number of books which include: “Healing Dreams”; “Healing Death’s Wounds”; “Free to Fail”; “Forgiveness is Healing” and “Healing Wounded History”.’

Carrigrohane Union of Parishes has two thriving Toddler Groups: Blarney Toddler Group meets on Tuesdays in The Church of the Resurrection and ‘Sparks’ takes place in the Carrigrohane Parish Centre each Friday in term-time. The bible story-time, and the singing that follows, are a much loved part of these sessions and an essential element of our Christian outreach. The team of volunteers at both Groups would love for more of our children and their carers to read God’s word at home. To this end, we would like to give a childrens’ bible to those who would like to have one at home to read together. We are seeking pledges of copies of ‘The Jesus Story Book Bible’ from the Church family for this purpose. If you would like to sponsor one or more copies of this bible it is €12 and you can either make your pledge by putting cash or a cheque into an envelope marked ‘Toddler Groups’ Children’s Bibles’ or by contacting the CUP office and arranging alternative means of payment. Please spread the word - we are very excited at the prospect of creating more opportunities for our toddlers and their families to experience God’s word.

I was as at my desk when the news of the massacre of Muslims in two mosques in Christchurch New Zealand came up on a news feed, leaving us numb with shock. We imagine this island nation that is so alluring tucked away at the “bottom of the World” as living peacefully. This evil shatters the idyllic image. Suffering knows no borders. Outrage and grief surfs and splashes up on our screens with a chilling numbness and washes over us, until the here and now brings us back to our schedules. As the day moved on I found myself keeping prayerful company with the grieving and injured, with the one who cried: My God, My God why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from the words of my groaning? Psalm 22 That is the very cry of Christ on the Cross. For this comfort and great gift of God’s only Son as our Rescuer, let’s try and make it a priority this Holy Week in fellowship with one another, to deepen our faith, and behold His wondrous Cross where evil was overcome. Every blessing, Ian Welcome, Hospitality and Regrets We are blessed in having Russ Parker for Holy Week from the 14th to the 19th April as our speaker, and from the 14th April to the 3rd May we have Andrea Cotter, a Church of Ireland theological student, sharing with us for parish experience. Please give our guests a warm welcome and if you would like to have them round for tea/coffee or meals please let Ian know. Missing from our Holy Week will be the Rev John Hughes. With regret John has had to withdraw on doctor’s advice following exhaustion on a recent mission trip. Please pray for restoration of health for John. About Andrea ‘I am a first-year student at the Church of Ireland Theological College. I am married to Richard, who works as Finance and Administration Manager for the Diocese of Connor. I was born in Belfast but now live in a village called Cullybackey in Co Antrim. I worked in banking for most of my career and have taken a career break to pursue God’s calling to Ministry. I am very much looking forward to coming to Cork and to spending Easter with you.’

Safeguarding Trust Retraining If you have received an invitation to attend one of the DIOCESAN RETRAINING EVENTS please be sure to reply promptly - they have 400 to process in the Diocese! And do try and make it a priority - we cannot use you at youth and children's events if you are not retrained. Thanks! Because of the different dates, times and venues why not talk to others you know who will be attending and share transport and reduce your carbon footprint? Or let the office have offers of transport to circulate?

Prayer for N Ireland / Ireland / Europe AND Hurricane Idai devastation in Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe God of compassion, hear our prayer for all those affected by the Cyclone which has hit communities in southern Africa. Where lives have been lost, comfort those who mourn; where homes have been destroyed, guide those in need to shelter. Reach out, we pray into those fragmented lives, into the broken and fearful communities who have lost everything. Bring healing, hope, renewal and restoration. Mighty God, strengthen those who are working to bring aid and assistance. Clear their paths to reach the most vulnerable and most isolated; may lives be saved through their efforts to prevent the spread of disease. Teach us, Lord, that though we can never lift every burden We can help to carry a few. Help us to do that, lovingly and faithfully. Amen Credit: Christian Aid Visit our website for further information. PRAYER FOR IRELAND Ian writes: On Sunday in March a couple of hundred people walked the hill to Stormont and then spent a short time in prayer. Alain Emerson from 24/7 Prayer Ireland and Peter Lynas from Evangelical Alliance (NI) led the short act of worship with a reading of PSALM 85 and then we all prayed together using these words. This was followed by spontaneous singing of … No not by might, nor even power but by your Spirit O Lord…and praying in smaller groups before the return walk down the hill. You may find it helpful to make these words your prayer as we face such uncertainty. May God in His mercy hear our prayers. HEAVENLY FATHER, we pray for our nation at this time of such uncertainty, division, and confusion. Some of us are for Brexit, some of us are against it, and some of us aren’t sure. But we look to You to Guide us, reconcile and restore us. Our political leaders cannot agree and Stormont is no longer sitting. But you have been the hope and the heart of these islands for a thousand years, and today we return to you again, the King of this divided kingdom. Communities are divided, social media is cynical, public discourse is polarised but you are the way, the truth and the life, the Rock of Ages, a very present help in times of trouble. We humble ourselves and repent of our pride, our division, our selfishness. We confess that we have looked to ourselves and not to You. We are sorry. Hear our prayer and heal our land. Lord, have mercy on us. God of all wisdom and truth, we ask you to inspire and guide our political leaders at this difficult time. Raise up brilliant women and men of peace, integrity and startling courage to lead us in these turbulent times. God of justice, in this moment of economic and social uncertainty we pray for the most vulnerable in our midst. Lord, we ask not for what is best for us, but for what is best for everyone, and especially the least and the lost. God of mercy, we are deeply divided. We have been without a local government for too long, we live on divided islands and in fractious times. Would you rise with healing in your wings, bring balm to our brokenness and wholeness to our hurts. Lord of the church, we pray for our spiritual leaders that they would speak truth to power without compromise. As our nations shake, awaken your church to proclaim the good news of your gospel with renewed conviction. Revive us, we pray, and reconcile our relationships that the world may perceive that you are alive, believe in your name, and receive your love for every person, every family, and every community in this land. Lord, hear our prayers.
