ABOUT CUPA

By virtue of its location in Paris, France and its partnerships with some of France’s best universities, CUPA is part of a long academic tradition that helped lay the foundation for modern thought. While we pride ourselves on this solid background, the real strength of our programs is our constant desire to innovate and adapt our offerings to the evolving needs of our students. The Program is committed to providing exceptional students with the highest quality international experience, both academically

and personally. CUPA’s approach to intercultural learning is holistic and based on the belief that the pursuit of knowledge is not limited to the classroom. To this end, the Program creates a framework of support that allows students to take full advantage of the opportunities available in Paris. CUPA seeks to help students thrive in an increasingly global world in which intercultural adaptability is an essential skill.

THE ART & DESIGN PROGRAM

As a global capital of the art world, Paris’ history is closely intertwined with the arts. Students who have the chance to study in this metropolitan city are exposed to a diverse body of work thanks to a multitude of world-class museums, galleries, theaters, and industry events. Inspired by Paris’ cultural wealth, CUPA created CUPA Art & Design in partnership with Paris College of Art (PCA), a NASAD-accredited school of art and design. This program offers

students the unique opportunity to pursue a full-time curriculum of art and design that is tailored to fit their academic requirements, as well as their personal and artistic interests. PCA’s well-rounded course offerings include art history and liberal studies in addition to practical courses in fashion, graphic design, fine arts, and design.

PROGRAM FEATURES

The Paris Inside/Out Practicum

Personal and Academic Support

Semester and year students are enrolled in Paris Inside/Out, a credit-bearing course that offers an introduction to the city’s thriving contemporary gallery scene, and provides backstage access to the Parisian art and design community through excursions and guided visits to art exhibits and design workshops. Students visit places such as the FIAC, Fondation Louis Vuitton, the Gaîté Lyrique, and La Maison Rouge.

Students benefit from ongoing academic advising and receive extensive practical and academic support both before their departure and throughout their time in Paris.

Opportunity to Exhibit in a Parisian Gallery Students curate an exhibition of their work, held in a professional gallery. With the support of the school staff, they learn how to set up an exhibition and sell their artwork, and gain substantial experience that will significantly enhance their professional CV.

An In-Depth Orientation Program The Orientation program is designed to help students get settled in Paris as quickly and smoothly as possible. It includes academic advising, as well as meetings about practical aspects of life in Paris, safety and security, cultural differences, and for students in homestays, life in a French family.

Extracurricular Activities

Students have access to computer labs, fashion ateliers, a printmaking studio, digital and wet photography labs, and a sculpture studio for work with wood, metal, clay, and more.

A number of activities are sponsored and organized by the program, such as wine tasting, excursions, visits to some of Paris’ most interesting neighborhoods, exhibition visits, social gatherings. Students also receive a membership card to the Louvre Museum and an ID card that allows free access to national museums in France and numerous other student discounts.
