WELCOME TO WORSHIP

THE LORD’S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Holy, Holy (from Shaker Songs) — Kevin Siegfried Holy, holy, holiness unto the Lord. Love ye, love ye, love ye one another.

OPENING PRAYER Almighty and everlasting God, in Christ you have revealed your glory among the nations: preserve the works of your mercy, that your Church throughout the world may persevere with steadfast faith in the confession of your Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

This is the word of God for the people of God. Thanks be to God. SERMON

PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING Almighty God, giver of every good and perfect gift, teach us to render to you all that we have and all that we are, that we may praise you, not with our lips only, but with our whole lives, turning the duties, the sorrows, and the joys of all our days into a living sacrifice to you; through our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

HYMN OF PROCESSION #116 The God of Abraham Praise — LEONI

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is the one true church, apostolic and universal, whose holy faith let us now declare:

We believe in God the Father, infinite in wisdom, power, and love, whose mercy is over all his works, and whose will is ever directed to his children’s good. We believe in Jesus Christ, Son of God and Son of man, the gift of the Father’s unfailing grace, the ground of our hope, and the promise of our deliverance from sin and death. We believe in the Holy Spirit as the divine presence in our lives, whereby we are kept in perpetual remembrance of the truth of Christ, and find strength and help in time of need. We believe that this faith should manifest itself in the service of love as set forth in the example of our blessed Lord, to the end that the kingdom of God may come upon the earth. Amen. GLORIA PATRI #71 Glory Be to the Father — GREATOREX Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen.

ANGEL TREE It’s hard to believe, but Angel Tree is right around the corner. Each year this ministry helps make Christmas a little brighter for over 200 children in our community. This year the trees will go up with angels ready for adoption on October 29. You will again have the option this year to sponsor an angel if you would like to participate but prefer not to shop. We ask that gifts be returned by Wednesday, November 29 – they can be brought to Nourish. Then, join us for a wrapping party on December 3! There are lots of ways you can support this incredible ministry, want to help? Contact Anna Thomas (athomas@centenary-ws.org/ext. 1332). Schools determine students who may not have access to food over the weekend and are partnered with an organization through the Second Harvest Food Bank. They receive boxes of meals that are distributed to the students. Centenary partners with Brunson Elementary, Wiley Middle School, Reynolds High School and the Winston Salem Street School. Are you interested in partnering with us to help students gain access to food? You can do so by contacting Anna Thomas (athomas@ centenary-ws.org/ext. 1332) and she can tell you about all the ways we need your help. There will be breakfast snacks, coffee & drinks, and fellowship before the lesson every week! God is a God who loves both unity and diversity. Join us as we figure out who we are and how we can be a people of unity in a world that is completely at odds with itself. Each of us, and our identities, are important to the Kingdom of God being revealed CONFIRMATION 2024 Confirmation by definition is faith formation and one part of a lifelong journey. Our hope is that through our Confirmation ministry you will be given the opportunity, tools, love, support, and inspiration you will need to build your faith on a firm foundation (Matthew 7:24-25). Starting on January 3, 2024 (through May 19), we invite all 7th graders to join us as we meet each Wednesday night from 6:00 pm—7:30 pm to learn about God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, the spiritual life, and how they form us and help us to change the way we live our lives. You will not go through this class alone; you will pick a Shepherd (a faithful adult spiritual companion from our church) who will walk beside you all throughout your Confirmation. There will be several field trips, two retreats, lots of meals, and space to ask all your questions to help us grow. The hope is that through these experiences, you will come to encounter Jesus in a very tangible way. You can register for Confirmation in Realm. For questions, contact Tammy Pollock.
