WELCOME TO WORSHIP

THE LORD’S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

(Children, kindergartners through third grade, are invited to exit the Sanctuary for Children’s Worship. Children will return to reserved pews in the Sanctuary at the close of worship.)

Hymn of Praise — René Clausen Alleluia, alleluia. Praise God in his holy temple. Amen. Amen. Alleluia, Amen.

OPENING PRAYER O God, whose blessed Son came into the world that he might destroy the works of the devil and make us children of God and heirs of eternal life: Grant that, having this hope, we may purify ourselves as he is pure; that, when he comes again with power and great glory, we may be made like him in his eternal and glorious kingdom; where he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

OFFERTORY The Church’s One Foundation — arr. Dan Forrest The congregation will be invited to sing: Yet she on earth hath union with God the Three in One, and mystic sweet communion with those whose rest is won: O happy ones and holy! Lord, give us grace that we like them, the meek and lowly, on high may dwell with Thee. DOXOLOGY #95 Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow — OLD 100th Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise God, all creatures here below; praise God above, ye heavenly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING Receive these gifts, O Lord. May they be magnified by your Holy Spirit to teach your children about your love, to show the world your grace, to bring healing to the broken hearted, to comfort the grieving, to embrace the needy, and to praise your name. CENTENARY HELPS STUDENTS SUCCEED Did you know that we partner with 4 different schools in Winston-Salem to help provide food for students? This special ministry is called the backpack program. Schools determine students who may not have access to food over the weekend and are partnered with an organization through the Second Harvest Food Bank. They receive boxes of meals that are distributed to the students. Centenary partners with Brunson Elementary, Wiley Middle School, Reynolds High School and the Winston Salem Street School. Are you interested in partnering with us to help students gain access to food? You can do so by using the Give tab on the church website and selecting Backpack Program. If you have any other questions, contact Anna Thomas (athomas@centenary-ws.org/ext. 1332) and she can tell you about all the ways we need your help. CONGREGATIONAL CARE STEPHEN MINISTRY We are supposed to feel grateful for our blessings, but sometimes this can be hard if our hearts are heavy with feelings of sadness, loneliness, or discouragement. It can be difficult to find room for positive thoughts. Talking with a Stephen Minister can help. Through heartfelt conversations within a compassionate, confidential setting, a Stephen Minister can offer emotional support and understanding during difficult times. If you or someone you know could benefit from Stephen Ministry, please contact Deena Morgan (336-692-2314), Wilba Brady (336-723-6236), Rev. Craig Ford (336-724-6311 ext. 1353). MUSIC & ARTS

YOUTH SUMMER MISSION TRIPS 2024

PEACE, HOPE & JOY: A NEIGHBORHOOD SHOWCASE RECEPTION TODAY! Join us between 12:00 and 1:30 TODAY in the Atrium Commons for a reception celebrating the work of each contributing artist to our newest exhibit, “Peace, Hope & Joy: A Neighborhood Showcase.” Art will be displayed in the Atrium and 4 ½ Street Galleries from November 1, 2023, to January 28, 2024. Artists represent our congregation (including youth!), Arbor Acres residents & the Winston-Salem Street School students. The inspiration for this holiday season showcase is Galatians 5:22: “Among the fruits of the Spirit are love, joy and peace.” See you at noon!

As followers of Christ, we believe we are invited to go out into our community, and the world at large, to be the hands and feet of Jesus though mission work and serving others! Each summer our Youth Ministry goes out into the world, serving the Lord, in two different places. Our ‘ALL Youth’ in Mission Trip (6th-12th graders) head to Mountain TOP (Tennessee Outreach Project) June 16-22, 2024, and our Senior High Mission (9th-12th graders) Trip partners with YouthWorks to work in a different city or country every July. Next year we will be headed to Niagara Falls, NY, July 20-27, 2024. These trips are life-changing, giving you the opportunity to encounter Jesus and truly live out the Gospel message to “love God and love Neighbor.”

The cost is $10 per person which will be donated to local mental health agencies. The first 200 walkers will receive a t-shirt. Please register ahead of time. YOUTH SUNDAY SCHOOL From now until Advent we will be exploring Compassion from the Inside Out. Sometimes in the bustle and energy that comes with making a difference, it can be easy for all of us to focus on action and forget that compassion calls us to interaction – with God and with those who are struggling in the world around us. Yet compassion and prayer go hand and hand: the process of growing in Christlike compassion is nurtured through reflection and listening – both to God’s word and the experiences of those around us.

CONFIRMATION 2024 Starting on January 3, 2024 (through May 19), we invite all 7th graders to join us as we meet each Wednesday night from 6:00 pm—7:30 pm to learn about God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, the spiritual life, and how they form us and help us to change the way we live our lives. You will not go through this class alone; you will pick a Shepherd (a faithful adult spiritual companion from our church) who will walk beside you all throughout your Confirmation. There will be several field trips, two retreats, lots of meals, and space to ask all your questions to help us grow. The hope is that through these experiences, you will come to encounter Jesus in a very tangible way. You can register for Confirmation in Realm. For questions, contact Tammy Pollock.
