Distribution Cguide is distributed internationally in the lounges of 22 airports throughout Greater China, as per an agreement with Air Macau. Cguide is also present in the Macau Government Tourist Office booths throughout the SAR. In Macau the magazine is available in nearly every major hotel - present in hotel rooms and concierges. Cguide is also distributed to over 800 restaurants and is found in primary tourist spots, as well as being hand-delivered to more than 500 VIPs. hat a monumental year that we’ve had here at Cguide and what a monumental year we have to come. 2014 leaps on us with fervor and we’re going to have fun with it; all we can ask is that you’re along for the ride. So let’s take a look back and celebrate some of the highlights of last year with our 2013 in Pictures article. Catch up now, we’re in 2014! The Year of the Horse brings with it much to think about, many plans to be hatched and fortunes to be made and broken. So make sure to check out our piece on Chinese New Year traditions and examine your horoscope for this auspicious year. As always our City Lights are here to delight, so make sure you get a dose of those before sampling some of the amazing and symbolic food that we have here for you with the CNY dishes. Come with us as we head over to see one of our favorite musicians for an exclusive interview: Dub FX. Accompanying the launch of his new album the musician sat down with us to discuss everything from bullying to nursery rhymes, this one’s not to be missed! A look around and in town for some nightlife action and then some more fresh CDs and Artists to check out! This month the critically acclaimed Norwegian independent theatre group Jo Strømgren and company bring to Macau a dance theatre performance bound to excite and awe. Written, directed and choreographed by Jo Strømgren himself, the story follows a man and a woman sharing an office space. The two begin as mutually respected colleagues but the relationship quickly turns sour when both seek to win in a battle for territory. Exhibiting a collection of two recent series, La Collection and Love and Peace, by France based Chinese artist Hong Wai, the pieces illustrate the relationship between sexuality and violence. Curated by José Drummond, the exhibit delves into the abstract linkage between female intimacy and firearms, taking observers on a journey of the fine line between danger and eroticism. Drifting Ice: Contemplating Antarctic Icebergs 随波逐流：对南极冰山的考虑 Exhibiting various photographic pieces by Macau based Multimedia Artist and academic Álvaro Barbosa, Drifting Ice is the result of an extensive ten day artistic expedition to the southern pole; Antarctica. he Spring Festival, the most important celebration in China, can be commemorated in various styles, depending on your region. Aside from the colorful lamps and ornamentation, the food plays an instrumental role, with the traditional dishes conveying wishes such as happiness, good luck and expectations for the new year. Come see some of the traditional festival dishes that you just can’t miss.
Rice Cakes
Rice cakes are a very popular item on family menus during the Festival Feast, especially in Hong Kong, Macau and the Guangdong Province. The Chinese words for rice cakes are similar in sound to ones that mean: ‘everything will be better next year’ (referencing income and position), thus making it a fortuitous dish. The cakes are made of ground glutinous rice with coconut juice, red bean, date paste and a few other ingredients. The mixture is steamed on a large plate and then left to cool. Before serving, the cake is sliced and fried until golden, producing a tender, sweet and rich flavor. For another unique flavor, try a festival cake. A steamed mixture of rice-flour and radish with diced cured pork and sausage, dried shrimp and other ingredients it has a flavor all its own.
Eight Treasures
The nut and candy box, also called the Box of Eight Treasures is a well known festival item which includes melon seeds and other snacks such as the sweet lotus seed, white gourd and lotus roots. Melon seed is a particularly important snack during the Festival because it is believed that grabbing a handful of the seeds is symbolic of catching gold in the coming year. Sugary snacks also bear good meaning; for example the sweet lotus seeds symbolizes having a large family, the sweet white gourd is a happy start and happy ending of the year, and the lotus root represents a wealthy year ahead.
年糕 年糕是农历新年必吃的传统食品，因为中国人认为年 糕与“年高”谐音，象征收入、职位或小孩子都一年 比一年高，所以年糕在港澳以及广东地区都特别受欢 迎。年糕一般用糯米磨粉制成，会加入不同的材料， 如椰汁、红豆、枣泥等不同食材到粉浆中，大盘蒸 熟，食用时再把年糕切成片状，放少量油，煎至金 黄，这样吃起来口感细腻香滑，又保持了年糕的原滋 原味。另一种常见的糕则为萝卜糕，把萝卜切丝后混 入米浆，加入小块腊肠、腊肉、虾米等材料蒸制而 成，别有一番风味。
贺年全盒 贺年全盒是盛载各式小吃的“八宝盒”，也是春节必 备的美食盒，里面包括瓜子、糖莲子、糖冬瓜、糖莲 藕等小吃。瓜子是过年时不可缺少的食物，人们相信 抓瓜子的动作就好比“抓银”，有着财源滚滚的好彩 头。瓜子因不同的种类、制法，产生多种不同的瓜子 种类，如红瓜子、黑瓜子、葵花籽等。而其他以糖加 工的食品也是各有各的喻意，糖莲子有年生贵子之 意；糖冬瓜则有好头好尾之意，指做生意一年下来会 好头好尾；而糖莲藕则取其谐音，寓意“年年都有” ，特别适合喜气洋洋的春节。 January 2014

油炸小吃 以“兴旺”为主题的各类型油炸小吃也是春节常见的 传统食物，当中包括煎堆、油角以及笑口枣等。广东 人有句老话“年晚煎堆，人有我有”，就说明了煎堆 是农历年必备的小吃，以糯米粉搓圆后放入油煎变成 金黄色，圆滚滚地，再洒上芝麻，香而不腻。油角则 取其谐音“有角”，寓意“今年吃油角，来年露头角 之意”，指可以出人头地。油角的陷料，可以有咸甜 两种风味，但多以甜食为主，里面包有砂糖、花生、 椰蓉、芝麻等，甜味十足又香口。而笑口枣又名“开 口笑”，因为在炸笑口枣时，粉团自己会裂开，代表 吃过以后全年笑口常开，是新春的好彩头食品。

除了一系列的新年小吃以外，不能缺少的还有在开年 饭时吃的传统贺年菜。开年饭是广东人在农历新年和 家人朋友、公司同事最重要的聚餐活动，其菜式丰 富，而且重视吉祥好兆头。贺年菜的花样非常多，而 且主题都是祈望新的一年能有好运气，常见的菜式 有“发菜蚝豉”、“年年有鱼”。天然生晒的肥美金 蚝略带咸鲜，轻煎以存封其浓郁蚝味，再配以略带甜 味的酱油，加上发菜炮制而成，取其“发财好市”的 意头。“年年有鱼”则多用鲤鱼，因为春季正值鲤鱼 产卵季节，金黄色的鱼卵更具发财意头。多肉少骨的 石班及多宝鱼等也是常用的食材，其肉质丰厚白嫩， 弹牙鲜美，含丰富胶质及蛋白质，是春节中菜的健康 之选。 此外，贺年“盆菜”是也是很多港澳家庭中常见的贺 年菜式，有“十全十美”的意思。“盆菜”的主料有 鸡、鸭、鲍参翅肚、鱼、虾、等，配料则有鱿鱼、枝 竹、萝卜等。菜肴先烹制好，然后一层一层叠进盆 中，最下层放的是容易吸收肴料汁的材料，如萝卜、 猪皮、枝竹等。盆菜里可荟萃有百菜百味，当你一层 一层吃下去就会发现一层比一层的美味。
New Year’s Feast
Fried cakes such as fried rice-flour roll, fried dumplings and fried dates are also seen everywhere during the holiday. As the saying goes: Eat a fried rice-flour roll and you will have all the good things others do; which explains why it is so prominent during the Chinese New Year. The roll of rice flour is fried until golden and covered by a layer of sesame seeds, creating a rich but fresh taste. According to tradition, the fried dumpling increases your good luck due to the dumpling having two pointy ends. With either sweet or salt flavor, the dumpling stuffing is often made of sugar, peanut, shredded coconut and sesame during the festival. The fried date is also called a smiling date because the date splits open, a sign of the bringing of happiness to the family in the new year.
Other than the numerous snacks enjoyed throughout the holiday, the Chinese New Year dishes as well as the gathering of families, friends or colleagues is the highlight. Every dish, and every special meaning attached to it, represents a wish for the New Year. Fried dried oysters with seaweed and sweet sauce, for example, is a very common dish, and symbolizes wealth and good business. A whole fish dish is also necessary for the Spring lunch and Carp are the most popular choice as this is the egg-laying season, another symbol of wealth. The grouper and turbo are also good options, but more because they’re nutritious and tasty than out of symbolism. The holiday period in Macau and Hong Kong is actually one of the best times to experience spring stews. Ingredients such as chicken, duck, abalone, sea cucumber, shark’s fin, shrimp and squid are all cooked separately and then placed in layers in a large pot. At the bottom are vegetables such as radishes or bean curd that can absorb the flavor of the meat. Eating this is much like taking a journey through spring. Don’t wait more, dig in and enjoy the holiday!

You seem to be one of the pioneers of the loop station movement - creating your own music live with loops.
我并不认为自己是先锋，只是凑巧走上了街头，全力 以赴唱歌而已，最主要的原因就是为了赚钱，这就是 它的理由。在街头表演，出售自己的专辑，推广我的 音乐，我知道在我之前有很多人这么做过，但是他们 可能没有我对街头表演了解得这么深刻，不过不得不 承认，还是有很多优秀的行业前辈在。 拥有众多尊重我表演的粉丝，令我倍感荣幸。我希望 我的经历能鼓励更多人——尤其是那些单打独斗的音 乐人，勇敢地走上街头，和我一样进行表演。
I wouldn’t call myself a pioneer, I just happen to really go out in the street and promote the art as much as I could mainly because I was trying to make a buck. That was the whole point. Going out street performing and selling a CD and just spreading my music and I guess there were people out there doing it before me but maybe they didn’t know how to get it out there as much as I did and there’s still some really good people out there. I’m blessed that I have so many fans that really respect what I do and I hope that I encourage more people – solo musicians especially – to go out and do the same thing.
How long have you been on the road now? 你进行街头表演的时间有多久了？
I started this nearly eight years ago.

And in the meantime you made two studio albums. 这段时间你还发行了2张录音室专辑。 我的第一张专辑叫做《Live in the Streets》，是一张 现场专辑。第二张叫做《Everything’s a Ripple》。进 行街头音乐创作时，我一直努力这样做：就是在心中 对作品的旋律有个大致的概念，当我站在街头，能够 将所有的概念融在一起，快速完成一首歌，把它唱出 来。但这些概念都只是存在于我的脑海里，因此我会 到录音室中，按照我脑海中的样子把音乐制作出来。 但事实证明，大多数人的反应都类似——“不，我更 喜欢你在街头进行演唱。” 我就会感觉“真愁人”。
My first album was a live album ‘Live in the Streets’ and then the second album was ‘Everything’s a Ripple’. When I was on the street, when I was making the music, I was trying - in my mind I had an idea of how I wanted it to sound, but the way I was making it on the street was just a quick way of getting the song, throwing it together, and singing it. But I had all these ideas in my head on how I wanted it to sound. So I went into the studio and made it sound like that. But then it turns out most people are like “no I prefer the live street sound that you have”. So I was like ‘sh**’.

玩在澳门 Play 现场街头版本的作品感觉更强烈。你更喜欢街头的效果吗？ 对我而言，那只是达到目的的手段而已。但现在我意识到，那种感觉更原创，就像 你说的，有一种很强烈的感觉。它更简单，我想，还带着点儿粗糙原始的风格。因 此我又录制了一张Dubstep风格的专辑，名字叫做《Crossworlds》，真正的极简 主义。我还为孩子们创作了一些童谣作品，其中一首名叫《Nursery Grime》，主 要是和未婚妻 Flower Fairy 共同完成的。目前我还刚刚完成一个叫做《Theory of Harmony》的专辑，我想办法将你在今晚(11月27日)听到的一切元素都融入其中。 你会听到beatbox的东西，比较街头感觉的beatbox，还有电子鼓的鼓点和低音贝 司。此外还有其他的一些元素。我认为将我喜欢的那些东西重新以现场的感觉表现 出来，并不困难。
你如何靠音乐养活自己？ 首先要说的是，没有人真正能从卖专辑中赚大钱，所有音乐人都无法做到这一点。 他们推出一张受欢迎的专辑后就会做巡演，这才是真正赚钱的部分。反之再来说说 我在街头表演的日子，我第一天在街头表演就赚了250欧元，比我在澳大利亚咖啡 店里打工一星期的工资还多。于是我对自己说：哦，该死，这样做挺赚的。只要一 周表演个三五天，我便能过着非常惬意的生活。于是我买了个货车，在车顶安上太 阳能板，在车里面装上热水器和淋浴设备，还有一个小厨房。我和我的未婚妻就这 样在世界各地游走，努力赚钱，然后花掉。你用这样的方式赚钱、像个吉普赛人一 样生活，那感觉就像行走在康庄大道上的国王一样。有意思的是，很多钱都进入了 银行账户里。我所做的表演报酬、所有卖出的CD，还有通过iTunes或其他什么方式 卖出的音乐，都变成了银行账户里的存款，就那么一点点积攒着，我从来也没有想 过这个问题。四年后，我一看账户数字，吓了一跳，都够买一栋房子的了。这就是 我做的事情。 有四五年的时间，我们每天都进行街头表演，现在我们迈入了一个完全不同的生活 舞台。过去我们在街头卖CD会赚不少钱，现在的报酬也相当丰厚，虽然不像David Guetta或其他什么人那么有名，但我们出场费也不低，会在世界各地的节日庆典和 俱乐部活动中进行表演。我们还会在一个新地方进行免费的试演，努力尝试开拓新 市场。音乐行业其实有很多的赚钱方法，很多人之所以不这么想，是因为他们困在 了陈旧的生意模式中。新的商业模式就是走出去，亲力亲为。
说到屋顶现场表演，它是如何诞生的？ 屋顶表演只是一个非常随意的想法，类似于我们互相说：好吧，在屋顶搞点儿东西 吧。然后就这么做了。无论何时何地，如果有人建议说：“看，那儿有个屋顶，咱 们上去吧”。我就会说：“哇，屋顶啊。”就这样陆续拍了五六个视频，现在开始 做第七八个了，所有的一切都发生在屋顶。这不是事先计划好的事情，它就那么顺 其自然地发生了。我们有一些很积极的愿望，很棒的想法，艺术就自由自在地流淌 出来了，将一切元素融在了一起。 有一个视频叫做“No Rest for the Wicked”，是在印度拍的。完全没有排练，一气 呵成，从头到尾，就是我们三个人之间的事情。一直拍到最后。
经历了这一切之后，你仍然很谦逊，你是如何做到的？ 该从哪里说起呢，其实我一直都是这样的。每次有人夸我的时候，都是这个耳朵 进，那个耳朵出。如果我沉浸在这些赞美中，我的脑袋里就会被那些甜言蜜语搞的 不断膨胀。这些话听着当然很好听，但首先，我的未婚妻会让我始终脚踏实地。每 一次当我自负之心开始膨胀时，她都会这样（做个苦脸）——当然不会经常发生； 此外，早在高中的时候，我的自负就被消灭掉了。我那时候真是个自大的家伙，一 个彻头彻尾的讨厌鬼。为此我付出了很大的代价，有一段时间我非常沮丧，整个人 完全垮了，后来我不得不脱胎换骨，意识到自己是谁，处于什么样的境地之类的。 当你经历了这一切，就不会再那么自负。我在这方面真的已经看透了。

The live street version has an edge to it. Do you prefer the live street feel? To me it was just a means to an end to getting it going. But now I realized that it’s more raw and it is like you said, it has an edge to it. It’s a bit more simple and I guess it comes across a bit more fat and dirty. So then after that I recorded a Dubstep album, really minimal, that was called A Crossworlds then I did a nursery rhyme type thing for kids which is called Nursery Grime featuring mainly Flower Fairy and then now literally I’ve just finished a new album called Theory of Harmony and I’m trying to incorporate basically everything you heard tonight (Nov 27th). So beatbox stuff, like street sound[ing] beatbox stuff and also a lot of the drum’n’bass stuff using the drum machine is in there. Plus a few extra things like, I probably wouldn’t find difficult to replicate live but things that I just enjoy.
How do you make a living off of music? Well first of all, no one ever made money out of CDs. No artist really made much money off that. They had a big album and then they would go on tour and they made money off touring. On the other hand, whereas I was out in the street, the first day I went street performing I made 250 Euros. That was more money than I made in a week back in Australia working in a café. So I was like ‘Sh** there’s money to be made.’ And doing that 3, 4, 5 days a week I was living very comfortably. I bought a van, had a solar panel on the roof, had a hot water system and a shower in there, a kitchen. Me and my lady we just traveled all around the world and just f**king made total loads of bling and we spent all of it. Because when you’re making that much money and you’re living like a gypsy we just lived like kings from the road. The weird thing is that all the money that came into the bank account, so all the deposits from shows that we did all the money that we stocked, like the CDs that we sold through iTunes or whatnot, it all went into a bank account and we let it build up and we never even thought about it. Four years later we’re like ‘holy sh**’ we could actually put a deposit on a house with this. And that’s what we did. After about four or five years of street performing every day, so now we’re at a completely different stage in our lives. We used to make a lot of money in the street selling CDs and now we get paid a nice amount, nothing like David Guetta or anything, we get a nice amount to go out and play shows and festivals and clubs all around the world. We also do free gigs when it’s new places, we want to try and open new markets. But there is money to be made in the music industry, they just don’t think there is because they’re stuck in the old business model. The new business model is to go out and do it yourself.
Rooftop sessions. How did that come about? The rooftop thing was just kind of random, it wasn’t something we said: ‘alright we’re gonna do a bunch of rooftop movies’, it just so happened that whenever we were somewhere, if someone suggested: ‘hey there’s a rooftop, let’s go up there’. I’m like ‘yeah, rooftop’. And
it just so happened that like about five or six videos that we’ve done or seven or eight of them all happen to be on rooftops. It wasn’t something that we planned, but that’s the thing. We’ve got positive intentions and you’ve good ideas and the art is free flowing, s**t just comes together. There’s a video called ‘No Rest for the Wicked’, in India. That was a completely unrehearsed, one take, first take, jam between the three of us.
How do you stay so humble throughout all this? Well there’s one thing that I like doing, it’s the fact that every time somebody pays me a compliment it goes in one ear and it goes straight out the other. Because if I trapped them in there my head would expand with all them lovely comments and it’s nice to hear. First of all, my lady she keeps me very grounded. Any time any moment of ego pops out of me, she’s like (grimaces), which is not that often anyway. And also my ego was killed in high school because I was fully up myself and a complete jerk in high school and I just got given loads of s*** about it to the point where I got really depressed and it got kind of beaten out of me and then I had to kind of reform who I was and understand what I was and where I was and all that s***. And when that happened I was kind of free of the ego, so I don’t really have many issues with that.
Did music help with that? Music didn’t help with that, no, in fact it was better because I approached music from a more humble point of view as opposed to ‘I’m the f***in greatest’ it was like: ‘I really gotta work at this to be good and I really want to be good at it’ and that’s the most important thing. It’s one thing to believe in yourself, it’s another thing to tell everybody that you believe in yourself. And I don’t believe in doing that. I believe letting people tell you that is way better than telling everybody else that.
Within your lyrics you seem to be promoting a very positive message, which seems at odds with much of the commercial music out there. There’s so much f***in jizz on the market at the moment and I think there’s kind of a conspiracy to that in my opinion. Labels first of all they have this perception that people are stupid. Well personally I think the opposite of that, because if that was the case I wouldn’t be making any money. None of my lyrics are dumb and my music, I don’t think it’s dumb. I give people the benefit of the doubt and I try and make something that’s interesting, and cool and artistic as much as possible and people like you guys rock up and enjoy it. And that’s beautiful. Obviously some people just want a dirty ignorant hip hop tune that says how sick they are. I believe that the people who listen to that music will also listen to something deep and meaningful as well, it’s just a time and place type of thing.
What’s next? Well, launching this new album and I’m just gonna be doing endless tours, once again, with that. And once that’s over…. January 2014

接下来有什么安排？ 发行这张新专辑，还要进行没完没了的巡演，再一次 上路，带着新专辑……
你怎么看待这张新专辑？ 我通过一个叫做“PledgeMusic”的网络音乐平台发 行这张新专辑，在这个平台上，粉丝们会提前支持一 张他们从未听过的专辑，甚至不知道这张专辑什么时 候才能面世。他们就是我的英雄，这些人会获得提 前发行的拷贝，先听为快。一个星期后，专辑会在 iTunes等平台上发布，接着我就带着专辑四处巡演。 就是这样。再接下来，我会制作下一张专辑，事实上 这方面的准备工作还没有完成。我已经发行了两张不 同专辑，一张EP，里面有很多雷鬼元素，非常棒的雷 鬼风。我还与其他成员一起，包括Flower Fairy，发行 过一张叫做《Happily Ever After》的专辑，主要针对 家庭观众。事实上，Flower Fairy在那张专辑中出现的 并不频繁，但下一张将会是她、我和Cade三个人的作 品，那将是一次完美的合作。

调。但是我不停地练习，弹吉他，与Cade一起在乐队中唱歌，我们从十五六岁起就 开始合作，一起表演。我们一直想找个合适的主唱。我负责写歌，可能会进行一些 辅助的演唱，主要的演唱由其他人完成，因为我的表演真的很糟糕。但是我们始终 没有找到合适的人。最终我只能自己唱啊、唱啊，到了后来我就觉得，嘿，我也能 做这个，慢慢地就越来越好了。但这个过程真的很漫长。 当我开始进行街头表演时，我才真正了解自己，开始真正明白我是谁，不再有那么 多泡沫的东西，我终于可以做我一直想要做的事情。此外，我还明白了我作为一个 艺术家、一个人，最核心的实质是什么，我的嗓音到底处于什么水平。我想做的事 情忽然都成了真，就是靠着持续不断的街头表演，那是在人群前不断练习的结果。
你在街头表演中曾经偷着用别人的汽车电池，第一次是来自谁的？ 我妈妈的！但她不知道。我当时打开她汽车的引擎盖，偷偷把电池拿出来，进行街 头表演，用完后再带回去装上，她没有发现。我又这样做了好几次。最终，她的车 没办法开动了，哈哈。

So how about this new album? Well I launched it through this crowd funding campaign called PledgeMusic and anyone who pledged, those people, they pre-support an album that they’ve never even heard, didn’t even know what was going to be on it. And they’re like my heroes, so those people get the preemptive copy, they’re the ones who get to hear it before anyone else and then a week later, it’ll get released in iTunes and all the other shebang and then I’ll be touring with it. So that’s that and then I’ve got another album that I’m working on, which I haven’t really properly started. I’ve got two different ones, an EP that’s gonna be full just dirty reggae rhythms, proper Ragga vibes and then I got another album which is called ‘Happily Ever After’ and that’s gonna be more of a real family-orientated album with the whole convoy crew, like Flower Fairy. Flower Fairy’s not really on this album so much but the next one is gonna be all about her and me and Cade and it’s gonna be this proper collaboration.
What instruments do you play? I’ve been playing guitar for like 10-12 years now. I’m still s*** at it. I started on the drum kit when I was twelve and then I moved to the guitar cause it was less s*** to carry around and it was cheaper obviously and also guitars get the girls.
How’d you stumble across this talent? It’s not something I stumbled across. It’s something I’ve developed. I couldn’t sing. I started singing when I was 17 and I was terrible. I had no tone to my voice; I was almost tone deaf to some degree. But I just practiced. I played guitar and I just sang covers in a band with Cade and we just worked/played together when we were 15, 16 and we were always looking for a singer. I wrote the songs and I was like ‘yeah man, I’ll back-up sing and get someone else to sing the tunes cause I’m s**t’ and then we never found someone. So I just ended up kept on singing and singing and then I was like yeah I should work at this and I just kind of slowly got better. It really took a long time. When I started street performing, that’s when I started to really come into my own and really understand who I was and chisel all the fat away, all the things that I thought I had to do were just released. And the core essence of who I am as an artist and as a person and where my voice sits and what I can do just came to life just because of all the endless street performing, practicing in front of a crowd.
Whose car battery did you first steal for your busking set-up? My mum’s! And she didn’t know. I was in the f***in boot of her car and I ripped out the battery and I street performed and I took it back and I put it back in again and she didn’t notice. And then I did that a couple more times, and then finally, her car stopped working.

To all the musicians out there who are trying to work with new instruments and new ways of making music, what kind of supportive advice can you give?
Dub FX performed a free concert in Hong Kong’s XXX club in Sheung Wan to a fully packed venue. He performed completely alone using only his voice, a microphone, an effects pedal, a drum pad and a loop station. Less than two minutes into his set he was covered in sweat and the crowd was jumping up and down. Go out and street perform! There’s no other way. That’s the only way I know how to be the best that I am. And if you look through history at all the best live musicians, I can reel off a s***load of the them, starting from Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Steve Martin used to street perform, Robin Williams used to street perform, Jason Mraz used to street perform, James Blunt and James Morrison used to street perform, Alanis Morissette used to street perform. You learn who you are. When you practice in your bedroom you’re just like: ‘yeah this is really good’ and no one is watching, no one is listening. But then when you go out and you do it in the street and you do that same thing and no one watches, it can be really daunting and you can be like: ‘f*** that was terrible’ but what did you learn? You learned that that was terrible, so you don’t do that again, or you make it tighter, you make it fatter, you make it quicker. You don’t spend ten minutes building up a loop, you just go out and you go ‘bang, bang, bang’ and you do it. And basically it chisels away all the fat, all the s*** that you think you need to be as a performer, just dies, because you realize it doesn’t work because people point at you and say: ‘that was s***’. And you need that; you need to be told what’s crap, because you don’t know yourself. That’s why street performing is the best.

Californian trio Haim brings an aural experience reminiscent of the 70’s Classic Rock era with their multitude of instrumental talent and stylistically iconic singing. Made up of sisters Este, Danielle and Alana, raised in a musical family, the girls began performing at local charity events with their parents Mordechai and Donna Haim. Though 成员 Members labeled Indie pop, the band breaks down the walls Alana Haim, Danielle that separate genres to create a distinctive and Haim, Este Haim utterly enjoyable sound. With talents in a range of instruments such as electric guitar, bass, drums and percussion as well as singing, Haim has often been compared to Fleetwood Mac but insist their influences lay in pop and R&B. Their debut album Days Are Gone was released in late September of 2013 and lead by singles Forever, Falling, Don’t Save Me and The Wire.

MSMR Lizzy Palpinger and Max Hershenow, collectively known as MSMR (pronounced miz mister), come together to offer a uniquely eerie and melodic sound. Famed for their darkly themed sound, MSMR have been compared to Florence and the Machine as well as Lana Del Rey. The duo was formed in 2010 by Palpinger and Hershenow - who act as vocalist and producer, respectively. They have since released a full studio album entitled Secondhand Rapture, off of which came singles such as Hurricane, Fantasy and Think of You, and two extended plays (EP) entitled Candy Bar Creep Show (2012) and Fantasy EP (Remix) in late 2013. MSMR have been featured on the soundtracks of several western TV shows such as Grey’s Anatomy, Pretty Little Liars and Revenge.

LANA DEL REY Elizabeth Woolridge Grant, better known by her stage name Lana Del Rey, delivers a stunning infusion of modern day pop sound with the elegance of 1950’s style. 年花 年花是新年期间用作装饰及应节的植物，不 同花种自然有不同意思与吉祥寓意。红掌花 象征着新一年鸿运当头，而银柳则以“有银 有楼”的谐音而大受欢迎。此外，新年最受 欢迎的桃花，寓意为催旺人缘及姻缘，因此 不论是否单身，也适合买桃花回家摆放，寄 望有好人缘，同时又能有祝福家人平安长寿 之意。水仙花则是农历新年常见的品种，因 为它有富贵之花的称号，寓意带来致富发 财，也有纯洁与吉祥的意思。除了以上介绍 的花卉之外，一些有果实植物和观叶植物也 被视作年花，例如桔，五代同堂（五指茄） 、富贵竹等等是常见用来布置新年家居的植 物。在澳门过春节时，几乎家家户户都至少 摆两盆以上金桔或年花，特别讲究的还会在 植物上挂满红包，增添节日喜气。
Spring Festival couplets and drawings The Couplets or the “Hui Chun” (in Cantonese) pasted on the frames of doors are popular decorations of the new year festival as well as being a statement of good wishes and faith. The couplets were said to have originated from written signs on peach wood in the ancient day, used to dispel evil and monsters. The traditional way to do it is to write words symbolizing good luck on red papers (by someone good at calligraphy) and stick them on doors or walls. More diverse materials for writing are used nowadays including fabrics, and the themes have expanded to include even cartoon figures. A tip for choosing couplets for front doors: try to find single couplets with such auspicious words as “FU”, or “Zhaocaijinbao”, as singular indicates a good sign in Chinese traditions. Spring Festival Drawings, on the other hand, are to be seen everywhere during the festival, expressing good wishes in the form of drawings without words. Popular themes include: Three Lucky Stars of Happiness, Wealth and Long Life, The Gods Spreading Blessings, The Bumper Grain Harvest, the Thriving Scene of Domestic Animals and Receiving Happiness in Spring Festival.
Festival Flowers As a perfect decoration for the Spring Festival, flowers embodying fortunate meanings are to be placed during the holiday. The anthurium plant (with red leaves) conveys good luck for the whole year, while the salix argyracea (E.L. Wolf plant) has a Chinese name that sounds like: To Have Money and Property. Peach flowers are often the most popular option as they’re said to attract more friends around you and even the potential Mr./Ms. Right to singles. The flower is also a blessing for safety and long life for the whole family. For business owners, the daffodil is a must-have for its message of wealthy, noblility, purity and happiness. Some fruit-bearing species or leafy plants would also be seen such as the orange, solanum mammosum (nipplefruit) and lucky bamboo. It is a tradition in Macau to place at least two pots of golden oranges or festival flowers in your home, often with red envelopes on it for a more celebratory atmosphere.

悠久历史 观音堂，顾名思义供奉的就是观音菩萨。这是澳门三大古庙中规模最 大的一座。原名普济禅院，修建于13世纪，但保存至今的建筑结构相 信可以追溯到1627年，因为庙内存有一块刻有“天启七年七月吉日 立，祀坛”字样的石碑，时年为1627年。 观音堂历经400年沧桑，在澳门具有举足轻重的地位，不仅因为这里 有极富历史价值的建筑和古迹，更藏有大量珍贵艺术作品，比如名家 珍藏之中国字画等。1844年，中美双方在庙内花园中的一个花岗长 桌上，签署了中美第一个不平等条约，更增加了它的历史重要性。在 二战期间，著名的岭南派画家高剑父还曾在寺内居住，教授弟子绘 画。
内外装饰 观音堂是澳门规模最大、最富丽堂皇的一所寺 院，雄伟的寺庙大门，琉瓦屋檐上点缀着陶瓷神 兽。典型的古代寺庙建筑布局，由三进大殿 纵 轴相连而成。 除了三个主殿和周边几个侧殿之外，寺庙各 处的墙壁上还悬挂着历 史名家的画作和各种艺 术品，尽显浓郁的文化 底蕴。
A History Dedicated to the Goddess of Mercy, the Kun Iam Tong Temple is the largest of three Buddhist temples in Macau. Originally named Pou Chai Sim Un, the temple was founded in the 13th century. Its present day structure is believed to date back to 1627, the same year carved into a stone tablet within the temple reading: “Constructed in the seventh month of the seventh year of the reign of Emperor Tian Qi”. Over its four-century history, the Kun Iam Temple has accumulated significance not only for its historically valuable architecture and relics but also for works of art such as calligraphy and Chinese paintings. In 1844 the first Sino-U.S. treaty between China and the United States was signed in a small granite pavilion within one of the temple’s gardens - adding to the temple’s rich historical wealth. During World War II, Gao Jianfu, a Chinese Lingnan-school painter, lived and taught painting at the temple.
The Exterior & Interior Considered the wealthiest as well as the largest of Macau’s temples, Kun Iam features a grand entrance and a number of porcelain figures adorning its tiled roof. The temple is constructed in an architectural style similar to ancient Chinese temples and is made up of a number of adjoining halls. Comprised of three main shrines and several smaller shrines in the surrounding area, the temple displays a rich cultural wealth with the various pieces of Chinese art and tradition that decorate these walls.

长寿殿与莲花池
寺庙的正门气派雄伟，古老的“普济禅院”牌匾高悬于头顶。山门处 由四大金刚守护，或手持琵琶、或身缠蛟龙、或手托铁塔、或手握宝 剑，威严气派，栩栩如生。
次殿是长寿佛殿堂，供奉长寿佛。旁边有一个荷花塘，摆放着若干盆 栽，其中一盆的树枝弯曲模样颇像是中国的“寿”字。据说善男信女 只需经常手触其枝干，即可福寿延年。
香炉
观音殿
在寺庙中焚香祈福是中国的一种传统，尤其是在各种仪式或节日期间 更是如此。观音堂的香火很旺，不仅在焚香炉附近，所有的三个大殿 内都萦绕着如云雾般挥之不去的烟气
观音殿是寺庙中的正殿，观世音菩萨像就供奉于此，观音头戴天冠， 身披白衣。寺庙每年都会为其更换新衣。观音两侧是十八罗汉像，其 中一位罗汉面目酷似西方人，据说是以意大利探险家马可波罗为原型 刻画的，他曾在中国研习佛理。
大雄宝殿 首先进入的就是大雄宝殿，这里供奉着释迦牟尼佛祖雕像，伴有三尊 金身三宝佛像。整个大雄宝殿堂皇华美，处处可见佛教饰品和镶金佛 龛。
铜钟 在大雄宝殿右侧有一口铜质古老大钟，已有300多年的历史，人们至 今仍然会在节日和庆典中将它敲响。
花园 寺庙各处点缀着多个台阶花园，展示出风格各异的中国园林景观，此 外还有竹林、小佛龛，甚至还有喷泉。值得一提的是后花园，那里摆 放着一个花岗岩长桌和四张石凳，这就是中美签署第一个不平等条约 的地方。在另外一个花园中生长着四棵高大的榕树，枝干相连，盘亘 交错，又被誉为“连理树”，象征着坚贞不渝的爱情 。
艺术珍品 观音堂收藏着大量中国艺术珍品，包括多位著名画家创作的字画和雕 刻。很多艺术杰作都挂在寺庙的墙壁上，形象地展示着中国悠久丰厚 的历史。

The Entrance
The entrance of the temple is a grand structure. As you walk in notice the plaque that bears the temple’s original name: Pou Chai Sim Un. Inside is a foyer with four stone statues depicting the kings of the North, South, East and West. Each one is distinguishable by the object it holds: a Chinese lute, a sword, a snake and a tower.
Incense Burner
A crucial step in ceremonies, it is customary to burn incense for the gods and is seen as sign of respect. Kun Iam Temple is often described as heavily blanketed in a cloud of incense smoke, not only at the burner but also throughout the halls.
Hall of The Three Precious Buddhas
One of the three main halls of worship, this hall is dedicated to Sakyamuni – better known as Buddha - and features three gilded statues. The hall is a decorative space littered with ornaments and gold embellished shrines.
The Bronze Bell
On the right hand side of the hall of the Three Precious Buddhas sits a large bronze bell. This bell is said to be over 300 years old and is still customarily used in ceremonies and festivals.
Buddha of Longevity Hall & The Lotus Pond
The second of the three main halls of worship, this hall is dedicated to none other than the Buddha of Longevity. Nearby the hall is a lotus pond; the lotus is believed to have grown into the shape of the Chinese character for longevity. Visitors often touch them hoping for the gods to bestow upon them longer lives.
Kun Iam Hall
The third of the three main halls of worship - and the most important - is the Kun Iam hall. Housing the temple’s namesake, the goddess of mercy herself, Kun Iam is shown dressed in a gown of embroidered silk and a fringed crown, which is changed every year. To either side of Kun Iam stand her 18 attending buddhas, one of which is said to be made in the likeness of Italian explorer Marco Polo - who studied Buddhism at the temple.
The Gardens
A number of terraced gardens are scattered throughout the temple, featuring various miniature Chinese landscapes, bamboo groves, small shrines and even fountains. In one of the gardens towards the back of the temple sits the granite table where the first Sino-U.S. treaty was signed. Within another garden stand four banyan trees with their branches interlocked. This is known as Lovers Tree and is a symbol of marital fidelity.
The Art
Kun Iam temple is richly populated with various works of Chinese art, ranging from calligraphy to paintings and engravings by a handful of famed Chinese artists. A number of these masterpieces hang on the walls throughout the temple, the works aim to illustrate China’s rich history.

What’s your best memory of Macau?
Where is the best place to go for a date?
My best memory of Macau was probably my entire time there. My time there was short but I have made lifelong friendships that distance could never ruin.
I think just walking around Taipa or Macau is the best for a date because you get to know the person one on one, that or just anything involving games, fun, or something light hearted. You could go to a movie first and then walk around because then you’d have something to hopefully talk about.
Where in Macau do you find the most beautiful scenery? Beyond the lights and entertainment, I think the most beautiful scenery is found in the small alleys of Macau. The hidden streets and homes, in my opinion, are truly the most beautiful and special places.
Where in Macau do you like to take pictures?
Where do you like to have a drink?
Around Old Taipa, there are great places to take pictures, as well as Coloane, there are really great trails to take pictures on. You really could go anywhere in Macau and you’d most likely find something classic and interesting for pictures.
Personally I really like buying Minute Maid Orange Juice from the small grocery stores in Taipa. It’s really nothing fancy, but Minute Maid is the best.
Where is the best place to go for a real Macau experience?
Where is your favorite restaurant?
If it’s your first time in Macau, you got to go to San Ma Lou, it’s kind of like getting flung into the deep end of things: big crowds, tourists and locals, shopping, and eating.
My mom and I have two places we always enjoyed going to: La Gondola in Coloane, and Henri’s Galley in Sai Van. They both are in unique spots of Macau and have amazing food and such genuine, kind, people there.
Where do you like to shop?
What is the best piece of advice given to you? “Stay positive” - I’ve gotten a lot of advice, all of which were great and helpful. But, in the end, I really just try to remember to stay positive and grateful for everything and through all of life’s adventures.
I like shopping in the Red Market area (specifically Three Lamps area), they don’t have the biggest known brands but you can find really great small treasures there.

伯爵综合医院始建于1874年，位于松山若宪马 路，由四幢建筑物相连而成，邻近澳门著名的 景点东望洋炮台，拥有直升机停机坪，于1989年经扩 建后启用。仁伯爵综合医院原是一所军人医院，现有 病床接近500张，并有一系列保健与医疗系统。启用时 正适逢圣若宪伯爵管治澳门，因此当局随即就医院命 名的巧合作出了澄清，强调医院引用的是圣人的名义 而非总督的名字。随后便将1857年在岗顶兴建的旧军 人医院的财产和病人转移到这所新医院来，医院是由 澳门卫生局管理及其唯一辖下医院，澳门理工学院高 等卫生学校的学生一般都安排在此实习。因为澳门娱 乐业高速发展和城市化进程，这里已经不再维持原有 面貌。
A
n acute care hospital in Macau, this hospital is located on the Guia Hill, nearby Macau’s famed lighthouse and fortress. Built in 1874 and extended in 1989, the hospital currently houses nearly 500 beds and a variety of inpatient and outpatient care systems. Originally constructed as a military hospital, it is currently one of three hospitals in Macau and the only public hospital in the SAR. Following a re-construction project in the mid-1950s, based upon an increase in gaming and subsequent urban expansion the hospital no longer retains its initial appearance.

or those visitors coming to Macau for extended stays of two to three months, there’s a growing frustration at the lack of short-term accommodation. Hotels have become too expensive for this kind of duration of stay – and besides, there can be a distinct lack of availability at times. Is this having a negative impact on Macau? The two-bedroom apartment featured in these photographs is one of the very few short-term serviced lets to be found in Macau. Purchased two years ago by a Hong Kong investor who realized the gap in the market for visitors coming to Macau for extended stays of 2-3 months, this has proved a canny financial move. The apartment is located in central Taipa, surrounded by restaurants and shops, with excellent access to public transport. It was new when bought, but remodeled with the short term executive in mind; comfortable master bedroom, power shower, and second bedroom converted into a dressing room cum study. Quality furnishing and artwork were used throughout and the apartment is fully equipped with bedding and kitchen utensils. The rent charged is HKD 32,000 per month, 30% higher than the equivalent size, average long term lease in the building, but for the convenience of the tenant it includes property and service management fees, agency fees, utilities, CableTV, WIFI and housekeeping twice a week, and allows the tenant the flexibility of ten days notice. But short-term lets, whilst filling the need of some tenants, often are more trouble than they’re worth to the owners. Understandably most landlords prefer to have their properties rented out continually, without the inconvenience of numerous check-in/check-outs and down time between tenants where no income is earned. And the market is just not set up for motel-type operations that sit between a full time rental and hotel accommodation. The Finance Department expects landlords to report to them every time there’s a change of tenant, a time consuming bureaucratic irritant, especially if the owner is based overseas and a new power of attorney is required for their representative, for every new rental!

STAY Understandably the authorities are cautious – they have cracked down on properties that masqueraded as ‘budget hotels’ when really all they were, were a series of apartments divided into smaller separate spaces, perhaps with shared toilet facilities – but with little regard to fire and safety regulations. The team at Ambiente is regularly approached with enquiries from holidaymakers and overseas professionals looking for 2-3 month accommodation and there simply is no supply. For all the developments happening in Macau, this side of the market is not keeping up with the pace – whilst we aspire to be a leading tourist and entertainment destination in Asia this lack of self catering, serviced rentals must surely give a poor impression to those hoping to visit us.

All eyes are on the block of apartments/hotel suites that sit between the Four Seasons and the Venetian. Much ongoing discussion is being had as to how these can be put to good use, and yet not be categorized as ‘apartments’. The Cotai strip is designated for gambling and family entertainment, and for now, out of bounds for residential apartment rentals. Yet this building, it seems, with its apartment-style layout (far larger than a normal hotel suite), would be ideally situated for short term (1-11 months, 12 months being the minimum duration of a standard lease term) selfservice lets. It would also help ease the pressure currently on hotel rooms, improve availability of quality apartments such this one featured, and allow Macau to be more welcoming to longer-stay tourists and business travelers.

出租车（的士） Taxi Service 黑的士和黄的士 Black/ Yellow Taxi 澳门的出租车有两款，一款是黑色车身奶黄色车顶，而另一款是鲜 黄色。出租车起程价（首1600米）收费澳门币15元，之后每230米加 收1.5元，停车候客收费每分钟1.5元，如有大件行李，每件加收3元。 从澳门往路环或在澳门国际机场的士候客区乘车，除了车资外，另 收附加费5元；氹仔往路环加收2元附加费。但由澳门往氹仔或由两 离岛返回澳门，则无须加收任何附加费。 There are two kinds of taxis: black and yellow The flag fall charge is MOP 15 for the first 1,600 meters.
