Autotrophy of the Other: On Food and Hospitality’ is the first book by local chef and educator Dr. Evan Edwards. The book is a meditation on the role of nourishment and plant life in the constitution of our world. Originally written as a doctoral dissertation, the book investigates the marginalization of food and the home in the history of philosophy, and argues that thought would look fundamentally different if we grounded our understanding of the world in the lives of our planet’s primary nourishers-- plant-- rather than that of humans and animals.
