“Bronchopulmonary Displasia In and Beyond the NICU: Implications from Infancy into Adulthood”

Lula Lubchenco, MD, was faculty in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado from 1943 to 1977.

Although best known for her landmark description of the risk profile of variations in intrauterine growth by gestational age, Dr. Lu made contributions to regionalization of perinatal care, family-integrated care, interprofessional collaboration, and assessment of outcomes across the continuum from prenatal life to adulthood. Her research arose from the challenges she met as a clinician, and her scholarship continues to influence neonatal care around the world. In 2024 Lubchenco was inducted into the Colorado Women's Hall of Fame for her pioneering work.

Kathleen Gibbs, MD, graduated from Loyola University Chicago’s Stritch School of Medicine and her pediatric residency and fellowship in neonatal-perinatal medicine at Mount Sinai in New York. She then stayed as faculty at Mount Sinai where she also served as a pediatric clerkship and sub-internship director, associate program director of the residency program and associate director for patient safety for Kravis Children’s Hospital. She transitioned to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia in 2017, where she is a professor of clinical pediatrics. She is the current medical director for the Newborn/Infant Chronic Lung Disease Program which was established in 2010 to provide multi-disciplinary care for infants with severe bronchopulmonary dysplasia. In addition, she is the medical director for Quality Improvement and Patient Safety for the Newborn/Infant Intensive Care unit.
