CELEBRATING DIFFERENCE WEEK Monday, April 1, 11:45 a.m.–2 p.m.: Upstander Games, Aspen Conference Room, Administrative Pavilion – This event is open to all team members. The Experience Different Team would like to play a game with you! Bring your lunch (we’ll provide dessert) and join team members as we learn and practice skills to become upstanders when we experience microaggressions and bias in our environment. 30-minute games will happen in the Aspen Conference Room in the Administrative Pavilion at 11:45 a.m., 12:25 p.m. & 1:25 p.m. There are a limited number of game pieces available, so be sure to RSVP for a time slot by sending an email to ExperienceDifferent@childrenscolorado.org (Subject – Upstander Game).

Monday, April 1, 5:30 p.m. – Diversity, Equity & Inclusion & Your Promotion Matrices –DOP Colorado Springs location-Oklahoma Conference Room. This event will be held in-person and open to all team members. This workshop will include a brief didactic session about the updates to the promotion matrices regarding the recognition of DEI work. There will also be a discussion/workshop about current DEI projects and how the scholarship could be described or developed. A Zoom option will also be available through this link: https://ucdenver.zoom.us/j/97286043304 Meeting ID: 972 8604 3304 Tuesday, April 2, 12–1 p.m.: Capoeira Demonstration, Children’s Hospital Colorado Atrium – This event is open to all team members. Join us and learn a little bit more about the game of Capoeira!

Capoeira comes from Brazil by way of Africa. It is music, dance, acrobatics and a martial art. The United Capoeira Association (UCA) is one of the Capoeira schools in the Denver metro area and UCA Colorado is led by two American Mestres. This demonstration will be presented by a few UCA students and represent a wide range of ages, time in capoeira and backgrounds.

Tuesday, April 2, 12 p.m.: Student Career Experience at CHCO – Invitation Only Event. Students from the Colorado Early College of Aurora are coming to Children’s Hospital Colorado to learn about the different career opportunities in healthcare.

Wednesday, April 3, 8 a.m.–12 p.m.: GME Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Retreat – Invitation only event.

Wednesday, April 3, 12-1 p.m.: Art Activity, Mt. Snowmass – This event is open to all team members. Come connect with us during a brown bag lunch event in which we will write our story about difference through words and/or pictures.

We will provide Art Kits until they run out and dessert!

Wednesday, April 3, 5:30–7:30 p.m.: Connect with MC – Social Event – Invitation Only Event. An opportunity for MC2 alumni to interact with physicians and providers to share insight into their career 2 and educational paths with MC alumni from underrepresented backgrounds who aspire to pursue healthcare professions.

Thursday, April 4: Individual meetings with our Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Grand Rounds speaker.

Friday, April 5, 12:30–1:30 p.m.: Pediatric Grand Rounds with Benjamin Danielson, MD

“Reflections on The Equity Journey“ Our speaker this year is Benjamin Danielson, MD, Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Washington. He was the Senior Medical Director for over 20 years at the Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic (OBCC), where he combined patient care, clinic leadership and community advocacy. Dr. Danielson also serves on various boards of health-related organizations, philanthropic organizations and community groups dedicated to health issues. He chairs the Governor’s Interagency Council on Health Disparities, co-chaired the Governor’s Task Force on creating an Office of Equity, chairs the Group Health Foundation Board, is a board member on King County’s Children and Youth Advisory Board, and has been on King County’s Board of Health.

Dr. Danielson was a member of the Washington State Health Benefit Exchange in the first several years from its inception. He is on a number of organizational boards including: the University of Washington Foundation, Amara Adoption and Foster Care Services, and the Center for Children and Youth Justice. He has provided many addresses in numerous venues including the University of Washington’s Commencement Address in 2018.

The unifying thread in Dr. Danielson’s activities relates to promoting well-being and dignity, especially for communities who have been pushed aside. He has found opportunities within and outside of systems to advocate in partnership with groups and individuals who are dedicated and passionate about creating a better world. He realizes he is the least useful member of the circles he joins, and he is inspired – every day – by the children, families, communities and organizations with whom he interacts.
