concrete beams, the new building is half buried into the site’s topography. The resulting scheme features concrete beams that create an underbelly to cover an outdoor seating area at the Michigan Avenue entrance and a canopy for the interior space of the prayer hall. Above the canopy, a third space is created which is an artificial landscape formed by the canopy structure. It serves as an outdoor gathering space for the campus.
