2013 FIELD HOCKEY 2013 Season Preview Head coach Gia Cillizza returns 18 letterwinners and adds five newcomers as the 2013 Catholic University of America field hockey team looks to seize its third consecutive Landmark Conference title and advance past the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The 2012 Landmark Co-Coaching Staff of the Year will guide the Cards through a three-month, 16-game schedule, which includes 10 home games, six away contests and six Landmark Conference matchups. Among the 18 returners are Landmark All-Conference honorees Maura Campbell, Colleen Harwood, Kim Hermann, and Hayley Wright. Campbell was also named All-Region (First Team), while Harwood was named All-Region (Second Team) and Wright was named Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year. Junior forward Harwood will be key to scoring, as she led the squad in points with 37. Harwood saw 20 starts in all 20 contests in the 2012 season, and also led the Cards in assists with 13 and 71 shots on goal. Fellow classmate midfielder/forward Kim Hermann, who started and participated in all 20 games, was consistent in all statistical categories with 14 points, six goals, two assists, and 55 shots. Campbell, a back/ midfielder, and a rising junior with 20 games of action under her cleats, was second statistically in assists with eight and shots with 81.

2013 SEASON PREVIEW During the 2012 season, rising sophomore Wright made a profound impact, as she led the mighty red and black in game-winning goals (3) and with a team-high 14 goals on 81 shots. Several other players are expected to bolster the attack including 2012 starting sophomore forward Taylor Elliott, and sophomore Ellen Thorburn and junior Ellie Banholzer. Cillizza boasts a large midfield group featuring 2012 starters Rebecca Lukaszczyk, Katie Bertrand and Kiera McGovern, who will be joined by sophomore Tarah Portland and junior Katie Welsh. In the backfield, 2012 starters Alli Stevens, Campbell and Maddy Dennis are joined by junior Michelle Sabatini, and sophomore Megan Fiske. In goal, the lone senior, Meg Comunale started all 20 contests in 2012 recording 110 saves and four shutouts for a .780 save percentage. She is joined by sophomore Emma Warden and freshman Analisa Scott, who’s coming off a state championship senior season at Lower Dauphin High School in Hershey, Pa., midfielder/forward Maddy Brennan of Nevix Hall H.S. in Manchester, Mo., forward Sophia Sansone of St. Joseph’s H.S. in St. Louis, Mo., midfielder/ forward Morgan Druce of Havertown H.S. in Havertown, Pa., and back/midfield Mary Therese Daly of Notre Dame H.S. in Shrewsbury, Mass., that will challenge veterans for playing time.
